Abstract:
15 Salmonella and Shigella serotypes were isolated from the stool cultures of the food handlers made for rutin carriage screening in Şanlıurfa Public Health Laboratory within the first three months of 1993. Of the Salmonella bacteria isolated, 10 were s. typhi, 3 were S. paratyphi B, 1 was S. paratyphi A, and 1 was S.typhimurium. Of the Shigella bacteria isolated 9 were Sh.flexneri, 4 were Sh.boydii, and 2 were Sh.sonnei. As a result of the sensitivity test using 14 different antibiotics, it was concluded that the most effective antibiotics were chloramphenicol and ofloxacin.
