Abstract: One unique feature of tourism development in Mongolia is the emergence of „tourist ger camps“. Modelled after the traditional Mongolian felt tent, these camps are geared towards the country’s emerging middle class and foreign visitors alike.Typically, these ger camps are located (far) outside settlements. On the one hand, this is their specific drawcard: Tourists come to escape from the hectics of city life and enjoy „unspoiled“ nature. On the other hand, due to their location, ger camps usually have no access to central infrastructures, including those for water supply and wastewater. With a rapidly growing number of camps, adapted decentral water management solutions are urgently needed in order to protect the environment and the health of visitors.
