Abstract:
Selective reduction process and magnetic separation of nickel lateritic ore were conducted through the two-stage thermal mechanism with the addition of sodium sulfate and sodium chloride as the additives agent. The first thermal process was pre-heating at the temperature of 500°C and holding for 90 minutes. Afterward, the reduction continued at the temperature of 1150°C for the same holding time. The mineralogical composition of the reduced samples was determined by XRD. The microstructure of reduced nickel laterite ore was also examined using SEM-EDS. The optimum composition of the additive was the combination of 10% Na2SO4 + 10% NaCl, which produced a concentrate with 5.52% and 85.89% for nickel grade and nickel recovery, respectively.
