    Abstract: Coherent source localization is a common problem in signal processing. In this paper, a sparse representation method is considered to deal with two-dimensional (2D) direction of arrival (DOA) estimation for coherent sources with a uniform circular array (UCA). Considering that objective function requires sparsity in the spatial dimension but does not require sparsity in time, singular value decomposition (SVD) is employed to reduce computational complexity and ℓ 2 norm is utilized to renew objective function. After the new objective function is constructed to evaluate residual and sparsity, a second-order cone (SOC) programming is employed to solve convex optimization problem and obtain 2D spatial spectrum. Simulations show that the proposed method can deal with the case of coherent source localization, which has higher resolution than 2D MUSIC method and does not need to estimate the number of coherent sources in advance.

    Abstract: Under uniform circular array, by employing some algebraic schemes to exploit the phase information of receiving data and further estimate the source’s three-dimensional (3D) parameters (azimuth angle, elevation angle, and range), a series of novel phase-based algorithms with low computational complexity have been proposed recently. However, when the array diameter is larger than source’s half-wavelength, these algorithms would suffer from phase ambiguity problem. Even so, there always exist certain positions, where the source’s parameters can still be determined with nonambiguity. Therefore, this paper first investigates the zone of ambiguity-free source 3D localization using phase-based algorithms. For the ambiguous zone, a novel ambiguity resolution algorithm named ambiguity traversing and cosine matching (ATCM) is presented. In ATCM, the phase differences of centrosymmetric sensors under different ambiguities are utilized to match a cosine function with sensor number-varying, and the source’s unambiguous rough angles can be derived from amplitude and initial phase of the cosine function. Then, the unambiguous angles are employed to resolve the phase ambiguity of the phase-based 3D parameter estimation algorithm, and the source’s range as well as more precise angles can be achieved. Theoretical analyses and numerical examples show that, apart from array diameter and source’s frequency, the sensor number and spacing of employed sensors are two key factors determining the unambiguous zone. Moreover, simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness and satisfactory performance of our proposed ambiguity resolution algorithm.

    Abstract: The aim of the present paper was to observe the effects of needling ST40 and PC6 on IL-17 of ApoE −/− mice with fatty liver. Forty male ApoE −/− mice were randomized into Needling-Acupoint Group, Simvastatin Intragastric Administration Group, Needling Nonacupoint Group, and Model Group. Each was fed with high fat diet for 8 weeks since 16 weeks of age; after 8 weeks of intervention, mice were sacrificed and tested for various examinations. Result showed that the body weight, TC, and serum IL-17 in Needling-Acupoint Group decreased. Compared with Model Group, the immunohistochemical expressions of IL-17 in liver tissue were significantly decreased among the other three groups. In conclusion, acupuncture was able to lower the expression of IL-17 level both in serum and liver tissue in ApoE −/− mice, which is helpful to reduce the inflammation and defers the progress from fatty liver to cirrhosis.

    Abstract: This paper presents a hybrid metaheuristic that combines estimation of distribution algorithm with tabu search (EDA-TS) for solving the max-mean dispersion problem. The proposed EDA-TS algorithm essentially alternates between an EDA procedure for search diversification and a tabu search procedure for search intensification. The designed EDA procedure maintains an elite set of high quality solutions, based on which a conditional preference probability model is built for generating new diversified solutions. The tabu search procedure uses a fast 1-flip move operator for solution improvement. Experimental results on benchmark instances with variables ranging from 500 to 5000 disclose that our EDA-TS algorithm competes favorably with state-of-the-art algorithms in the literature. Additional analysis on the parameter sensitivity and the merit of the EDA procedure as well as the search balance between intensification and diversification sheds light on the effectiveness of the algorithm.

    Abstract: Calcium oxalate nephrolithiasis is the most common urological disease, but noninvasive and convenient methods of diagnosis are rarely available. Objective. The present study aimed to identify potential urine biomarkers for noninvasive diagnosis of CaOx nephrolithiasis. Methodology. Urine samples from 72 patients with CaOx nephrolithiasis and 30 healthy controls were collected and proteomics analysis was performed using matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization-time of flight-mass spectrometer (MALDI-TOF-MS). Results. Thirteen proteins/peptides displayed statistically significant differences. The peptides of m/z 1207.23 and 2773.86 were selected by the genetic algorithm (GA) to build a possible diagnostic model. The area under the curve of m/z 1207.23 and 2773.86 was 0.936 and 0.987, respectively. The diagnostic model in distinguishing patients and healthy subjects showed 100% sensitivity and specificity. The peak at m/z 2773.86 was identified as fibrinogen alpha chain (FGA) with the sequence G.EGDFLAEGGGVR.G, and the peak at m/z 2773.86 was identified as apolipoprotein A-I (apoA-I) with the sequence L.PVLESFKVSFLSALEEYTKKLNTQ. Conclusion. The study results strongly suggested that urinary FGA and apoA-I are highly sensitive and specific biomarkers for noninvasive diagnosis of CaOx nephrolithiasis.

    Abstract: Background. Both circulating and urinary miRNAs may represent a potential noninvasive molecular biomarker capable of predicting chronic kidney disease, and, in the present study, we will investigate the serum and urinary levels of miR-155 in patients with nephrolithiasis. Methods. Serum and urinary levels of miR-155 are quantified in 60 patients with nephrolithiasis; the result was compared to 50 healthy volunteers. Estimated glomerular filtration (eGFR) was calculated and, by simple regression analysis, the correlations of miR-155/eGFR and miR-155/CRP (C-reactive protein) levels were analyzed as well. Results. The median levels of serum and urinary levels of miR-155 are significantly higher in nephrolithiasis patients than in controls. eGFR inversely correlates with urinary level of miR-155; CRP positively correlates with urinary miR-155. Urinary level of miR-155 inversely correlates with urinary expression of interleukin- (IL-) 1 β , IL-6, and tumor necrosis factor- (TNF-) α and positively correlates with urinary expression of regulated upon activation, normal T-cell expressed, and secreted (RANTES). Conclusion. Serum and urinary levels of miR-155 were significantly elevated in patients with nephrolithiasis, and the upregulation of miR-155 was correlated with decline of eGFR and elevation of CRP. Our results suggested that miR-155 might play important roles in the pathophysiology of nephrolithiasis via regulating inflammatory cytokines expression. Further study on the molecular pathogenic mechanism and larger scale of clinical trial are required.

    Abstract: Background. Elevated urinary angiotensinogen (UA) was identified as novel prognostic biomarker capable of predicting chronic kidney disease, and in the present study, we will investigate the diagnostic value of UA in the patients of nephrolithiasis. Methods. Urine angiotensinogen levels and α 1-microglobulin were measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) in 60 patients presenting with nephrolithiasis and 50 sex- and age-matched healthy volunteers. Estimated glomerular filtration (eGFR) was calculated and, by simple regression analysis, the correlation of UA/ α 1-microglobulin levels and the decline of eGFR were analyzed as well. Results. Median UA levels was significantly increased in the nephrolithiasis patients compared with normal control (1250.78 ± 439.27 versus 219.34 ± 45.27 pg/mL; P 〈 0.01 ). The mean serum creatinine levels in patients with higher UA levels ( 〉 1250 pg/mL) was significantly higher than those with lower UA levels ( 〈 1250 pg/mL) [92.23 ± 18.13  μ mol/L versus 70.07 ± 11.17  μ mol/L; P 〈 0.05 ]. According to the single variate analysis, UA levels were significantly and positively correlated with urinary α 1-microglobulin ( r = 0.733 ; P = 1.33 × 10 - 15 ), while they were significantly and negatively correlated with eGFR ( r = - 0.343 ; P = 1.03 × 10 - 4 ). Conclusion. Urinary UA is a novel biomarker for patients with nephrolithiasis, which indicates renal tubular injury. Further study on the molecular pathogenic mechanism of UA and larger scale of clinical trial is required.

    Abstract: Background. MicroRNA-1-3p (miR-1-3p) exerts significant regulation in various tumor cells, but its molecular mechanisms in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) are still ill defined. This study is aimed at detecting the expression of miR-1-3p in HNSCC and at determining its significant regulatory pathways. Methods. Data were obtained from the Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA), Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO), Oncomine, ArrayExpress, Sequence Read Archive (SRA) databases, and additional literature. Expression values of miR-1-3p in HNSCC were analyzed comprehensively. The R language software was employed to screen differentially expressed genes, and bioinformatics assessment was performed. One sequence dataset (HNSCC: n = 484 ; noncancer: n = 44 ) and 18 chip datasets (HNSCC: n = 656 ; noncancer: n = 199 ) were obtained. Results. The expression of miR-1-3p in HNSCC was visibly decreased in compare with noncancerous tissues. There were distinct differences in tumor state ( P = 0.0417 ), pathological stage ( P = 0.0058 ), and T stage ( P = 0.0044 ). Comprehensive analysis of sequence and chip data also indicated that miR-1-3p was lowly expressed in HNSCC. The diagnostic performance of miR-1-3p in HNSCC is reflected in the sensitivity and specificity of the collection, etc. Bioinformatics analysis showed the possible biological process, cellular component, molecular function, and KEGG pathways of miR-1-3p in HNSCC. And ITGB4 was a possible target of miR-1-3p.Conclusions. miR-1-3p’s low expression may facilitate tumorigenesis and evolution in HNSCC through signaling pathways. ITGB4 may be a key gene in targeting pathways but still needs verification through in vitro experiments.
