Abstract:
This study investigates nitrogen and sulfur as the dual dopants in the iron-graphene catalysts (N-S-iron-graphene) for the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR). After the pyrolysis in the specific temperature, N-S-iron-graphene catalysts demonstrates an excellent ORR ability with the electron-transfer number of 3.99, which is very close to the ideal four electron-transfer number. From the structure analysis, the graphene-like structure is found in the outer surface of the catalysts, which improves the electrical conductivity. XPS spectra shows the high amounts of pyridinic-N, quaternary-N and thiophene-S of chemical structures in the catalysts, which can significantly enhance the ORR activity. In addition, the catalyst has an excellent stability after 30,000 cycles of stability test. It confirms that nitrogen and sulfur dual-doped iron-graphene catalysts can enhance the ORR ability due to the synergistic effect.
