    Abstract: In coastal areas, structures such as cement-soil dams are often eroded by seawater, so it is significant to study how to improve the impermeability of cement-soil. Basalt fiber with a strong tensile property, good stability and a high-performance price ratio was selected as the additive to study the influence of the basalt fiber content on the permeability of soil-cement. The permeability test and the chloride ion permeability test were used to evaluate the best mixing amount. The results of the permeability test showed that, although the permeability coefficient of soil-cement decreased with the increase in the basalt fiber content, the decreased rate of the permeability coefficient showed a slowing trend. The results of the chloride ion permeability test indicated that the chloride ion-related impermeability of soil-cement was enhanced with the increase in the basalt content, which was confirmed by the consistent findings of the contrast permeability test. The comprehensive analysis shows that the optimal content ratio of the basalt fiber was 1.5%. Furthermore, a SEM analysis established that the addition of the basalt fiber reduced the soil-cement porosity, improved the structural compactness and formed a more stable whole. This study could serve as a valuable reference for soil-cement used in projects with impermeability requirements.

    Abstract: IL-33 is a new member of the IL-1 family cytokines, which is expressed by different types of immune cells and non-immune cells. IL-33 is constitutively expressed in the nucleus, where it can act as a transcriptional regulator. So far, no direct target for nuclear IL-33 has been identified, and the regulation of IL-33 nuclear function remains largely unclear. Here, we report that the transcription of type 2 inflammatory cytokine IL-13 is positively regulated by nuclear IL-33. IL-33 can directly bind to the conserved non-coding sequence (CNS) before the translation initiation site in the IL13 gene locus. Moreover, IL-33 nuclear function and stability are regulated by the enzyme ubiquitin-specific protease 17 (USP17) through deubiquitination of IL-33 both at the K48 and at the K63 sites. Our data suggest that IL13 gene transcription can be directly activated by nuclear IL-33, which is negatively regulated by the deubiquitinase USP17.

    Abstract: As an emerging network paradigm, the space–air–ground integrated network (SAGIN) has garnered attention from academia and industry. That is because SAGIN can implement seamless global coverage and connections among electronic devices in space, air, and ground spaces. Additionally, the shortage of computing and storage resources in mobile devices greatly impacts the quality of experiences for intelligent applications. Hence, we plan to integrate SAGIN as an abundant resource pool into mobile edge computing environments (MECs). To facilitate efficient processing, we need to solve the optimal task offloading decisions. In contrast to existing MEC task offloading solutions, we have to face some new challenges, such as the fluctuation of processing capabilities for edge computing nodes, the uncertainty of transmission latency caused by heterogeneous network protocols, the uncertain amount of uploaded tasks during a period, and so on. In this paper, we first describe the task offloading decision problem in environments characterized by these new challenges. However, we cannot use standard robust optimization and stochastic optimization methods to obtain optimal results under uncertain network environments. In this paper, we propose the ‘condition value at risk-aware distributionally robust optimization’ algorithm for task offloading, denoted as RADROO, to solve the task offloading decision problem. RADROO combines the distributionally robust optimization and the condition value at risk model to achieve optimal results. We evaluated our approach in simulated SAGIN environments, considering confidence intervals, the number of mobile task offloading instances, and various parameters. We compare our proposed RADROO algorithm with state-of-the-art algorithms, such as the standard robust optimization algorithm, the stochastic optimization algorithm, the DRO algorithm, and the Brute algorithm. The experimental results show that RADROO can achieve a sub-optimal mobile task offloading decision. Overall, RADROO is more robust than others to the new challenges mentioned above in SAGIN.

    Abstract: At this stage, the fault diagnosis of the embedded permanent magnet synchronous motor (IPMSM) mostly relies on the analysis of related signals when the motor is running. It requires designers to deeply understand the motor drive system and fault characteristic signals, which leads to a high threshold for fault diagnosis. This study proposes an IPMSM fault diagnosis method based on a multi-level feature fusion spatial pyramid pooling (SPP) network, which can directly diagnose motor faults through motor operating current data. This method uses the finite element software Altair Flux to build symmetrical normal motor and demagnetization faulty motor models, as well as an asymmetrical eccentric fault model; conduct a joint simulation with MATLAB-Simulink to obtain fault current data; convert the collected current data into grayscale images, using the data set expansion method to form training and test data sets; and improve the convolutional neural network (CNN) network structure, that is, adding jump connections after each pooling layer and adding a spatial pyramid pooling layer after the last pooling layer to form a new CNN structure. Experimental results show that the new CNN can extract different levels and different scales of motor fault features hidden in the image, and can effectively diagnose different types of IPMSM faults. Compared with the traditional CNN, the new CNN has a higher fault diagnosis accuracy, up to 98.16%, 2.3% higher.

    Abstract: Diodon hystrix is a new and emerging aquaculture species in south China. However, due to the lack of understanding of reproductive regulation, the management of breeding and reproduction under captivity remains a barrier for the commercial aquaculture of D. hystrix. More genetic information is needed to identify genes critical for gonadal development. Here, the first gonadal transcriptomes of D. hystrix were analyzed and 151.89 million clean reads were generated. All reads were assembled into 57,077 unigenes, and 24,574 could be annotated. By comparing the gonad transcriptomes, 11,487 differentially expressed genes were obtained, of which 4599 were upregulated and 6888 were downregulated in the ovaries. Using enrichment analyses, many functional pathways were found to be associated with reproduction regulation. A set of sex-biased genes putatively involved in gonad development and gametogenesis were identified and their sexually dimorphic expression patterns were characterized. The detailed transcriptomic data provide a useful resource for further research on D. hystrix reproductive manipulation.

    Abstract: Neuropeptide Y family (NPY) is a potent orexigenic peptide and pancreatic polypeptide family comprising neuropeptide Y (Npy), peptide YYa (Pyya), and peptide YYb (Pyyb), which was previously known as peptide Y (PY), and tetrapod pancreatic polypeptide (PP), but has not been exhaustively documented in fish. Nonetheless, Npy and Pyy to date have been the key focus of countless research studies categorizing their copious characteristics in the body, which, among other things, include the mechanism of feeding behavior, cortical neural activity, heart activity, and the regulation of emotions in teleost. In this review, we focused on the role of neuropeptide Y gene (Npy) and peptide YY gene (Pyy) in teleost food intake. Feeding is essential in fish to ensure growth and perpetuation, being indispensable in the aquaculture settings where growth is prioritized. Therefore, a better understanding of the roles of these genes in food intake in teleost could help determine their feeding regime, regulation, growth, and development, which will possibly be fundamental in fish culture.

    Abstract: Epidemics of hand, foot and mouth disease (HFMD) among children have caused concern in China since 2007. We have conducted a retrospective study to investigate risk factors associated with HFMD. In this non-matching case-control study, 99 HFMD patients and 126 control from Guangdong Province were enlisted as participants. Data comprising demographic, socio-economic, clinical and behavior factors were collected from children’s parents through face-to-face interviews by trained interviewers using a standardized questionnaire. Results of the primary logistic regression analyses revealed that age, history of cold food consumption, hand-washing routines, and airing out bedding were significantly associated with HFMD cases. Results of further multivariate analysis indicated that older age (OR = 0.44, 95% CI: 0.34–0.56) and hand-washing before meals (OR = 0.3, 95% CI: 0.13–0.70) are protective factors, whereas airing out bedding more than thrice a month (OR = 4.55, 95% CI: 1.19–17.37) was associated with increased risk for HFMD. Therefore, hand-washing should be recommended to prevent HFMD, and the potential threat of airing out bedding should be carefully considered. However, further studies are needed to examine other possible risk factors.

    Abstract: Fractional-order calculus has become a useful mathematical framework to describe the complex super-diffusive process; however, numerical solutions of the two-sided space-fractional super-diffusive model with variable coefficients are difficult to obtain, and almost no method can obtain an analytical solution. In this paper, a class of new fractional dimensional reproducing kernel spaces (RKS) based on Caputo fractional derivatives is given, and we give analytical and numerical solutions of the two-sided space-fractional super-diffusive model based on the class of new RKS. The analytical solution is represented in the form of series in the reproducing kernel space. Numerical experiments indicate that the piecewise reproducing kernel method is more accurate than the traditional reproducing kernel method (RKM), and these new fractional reproducing kernel spaces are efficient for the two-sided space-fractional super-diffusive model.

    Abstract: Trophoblast cells synthesize and secrete prostaglandins (PGs), which are essential for ruminants in early gestation to recognize pregnancy. Hormones in the intrauterine environment play an important role in regulating PGs synthesis during implantation, but the underlying mechanism remains unclear. In this study, co-treatment of sheep trophoblast cells (STCs) with progesterone (P4), estradiol (E2), and interferon-tau (IFN-τ) increased the ratio of prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) to prostaglandin F2α (PGF2α) and upregulated peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor γ (PPARγ) expression, while inhibiting the mechanistic target of rapamycin (mTOR) pathway and activating cellular autophagy. Under hormone treatment, inhibition of PPARγ activity decreased the ratio of PGE2/PGF2α and cellular activity, while activating expression of the mTOR downstream marker—the phosphorylation of p70S6K (p-p70S6K). We also found that the PPARγ/mTOR pathway played an important role in regulating trophoblast cell function. Inhibition of the mTOR pathway by rapamycin increased the ratio of PGE2/PGF2α and decreased the expression of apoptosis-related proteins after inhibiting PPARγ activity. In conclusion, our findings provide new insights into the molecular mechanism of prostaglandin regulation of trophoblast cells in sheep during early pregnancy, indicating that the PPARγ/mTOR pathway plays an important role in PGs secretion and cell viability.
