Abstract: To address the issue of poor tracking accuracy and the low recognition rate for multiple small targets in infrared images caused by uneven image intensity, this paper proposes an accurate tracking algorithm based on optical flow estimation. The algorithm consists of several steps. Firstly, an infrared image subspace model is established. Secondly, a full convolutional network (FCN) is utilized for local double-threshold segmentation of the target image. Furthermore, a target observation model is established using SIR filtering particles. Lastly, a shift vector sum algorithm is employed to enhance the intensity of the infrared image at a certain time scale in accordance with the relationship between the pixel intensity and the temporal parameters of the detected image. Experimental results demonstrate that the multi-target tracking accuracy (MOTA) reaches 79.7% and that the inference speed frame per second (FPS) reaches 42.3. Moreover, the number of ID switches during tracking is 9.9% lower than that of the MOT algorithm, indicating high recognition of cluster small targets, stable tracking performance, and suitability for tracking weak small targets on the ground or in the air.

Abstract: This paper addresses the objectives in a complex context: the polarization mathematical and physical model of the basic components of the target/background is constructed by simulation modeling. The image fusion experiment is carried out based on a two-dimensional wavelet transformation. A high-resolution polarization imaging instrument was developed, and static experiments were carried out with polarization, infrared, and visible cameras. The result shows that using polarization imaging detection technology to detect physical evidence targets in complex backgrounds can effectively improve target contrast. It can enrich the target information, improve image quality, and improve target detection accuracy.

Abstract: A compressive space-dimensional dual-coded hyperspectral polarimeter (CSDHP) and interactive design method are introduced. A digital micromirror device (DMD), a micro polarizer array detector (MPA), and a prism grating prism (PGP) are combined to achieve single-shot hyperspectral polarization imaging. The longitudinal chromatic aberration (LCA) and spectral smile of the system are both eliminated to guarantee the matching accuracy of DMD and MPA pixels. A 4D data cube with 100 channels and 3 Stocks parameters is reconstructed in the experiment. The feasibility and fidelity are verified from the image and spectral reconstruction evaluations. It is demonstrated that the target material can be distinguished by CSDHP.

Abstract: In this paper, infrared polarization detection information acquisition technology is proposed, and the polarization characteristics of oil spills are modeled and studied. A set of long-wave infrared polarization detection equipment for oil spills is designed and built, and modeling research on oil spill polarization characteristics is carried out to accurately detect and identify oil spill types and for the faster processing of oil spill events. Oil spill accuracy is increased by defining the polarization maintenance method of the polarization optical system and reducing the polarization measurement error brought on by the imaging system. As a result, a higher than 3% contrast exists between the polarization degree image and the corrected infrared intensity image. Outdoor tests using oil, palm oil, crude oil, gasoline, and diesel oil spill types are carried out in a controlled environment to collect data on the polarization of various oil species. According to the findings, each oil species’ infrared polarization contrast with seawater is typically greater than its infrared intensity contrast. However, the polarization data of saltwater, diesel, and palm oil, which are difficult to identify in intensity data, show a noticeable difference, further proving the viability of utilizing polarization to discern oil spills.

Abstract: A multispectral infrared zoom optical system design and a single-frame hierarchical guided filtering image enhancement algorithm are proposed to address the technical problems of low contrast, blurred edges, and weak signal strength of single-spectrum infrared imaging of faint targets, which are easily drowned out by noise. The multispectral infrared zoom optical system, based on the theory of complex achromatic and mechanical positive group compensation, can simultaneously acquire multispectral image information for faint targets. The single-frame hierarchical guided filtering image enhancement algorithm, which extracts the background features and detailed features of faint targets in a hierarchical manner and then weights fusion, effectively enhances the target and suppresses the interference of complex background and noise. Solving multi-frame processing increases data storage and real-time challenges. The experimental verification of the optical system design and image enhancement algorithm proposed in this paper separately verified that the experimental enhancement was significant, with the combined use improving Mean Square Error (MSE) by 14.32, Signal-Noise Ratio (SNR) by 11.64, Peak Signal-to-Noise Ratio (PSNR) by 12.78, and Structural Similarity (SSIM) by 14.0% compared to guided filtering. This research lays the theoretical foundation for the research of infrared detection and tracking technology for clusters of faint targets.

Abstract: The marine environment is complex and changeable. To meet the urgent needs of accurate detection and identification of oil spills, a visible/infrared dual-band common-aperture polarization imaging optical system based on a defocused plane polarization detector is designed. The optical system is evaluated by ZEMAX simulation software, and we carried out the polarization imaging oil species discrimination experiment based on the split focal plane polarization detector, which proved that for some oil species that cannot be distinguished by intensity information, the polarization information can be distinguished. It verifies the feasibility of polarization detection in the discrimination of marine oil spills, which is of great practical significance in the field of marine oil spill detection.

Abstract: This paper presents a study on a quadrotor unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) fault-tolerant control scheme. According to the attitude model and safety control of the aircraft under the uncertainty of inertial matrix, the attitude state constraint by reinforcement learning is designed to ensure safety. Even if the boundary is crossed, it can be pulled back to the boundary by means of a designed penalty function with reinforcement learning. Meanwhile, in order to inhibit the oscillation caused by immediate reward as usual, an adaptive update law is proposed. Furthermore, considering the coupled actuator fault and system input saturation due to uncertainty of inertial matrix, the Nussbaum-type function is utilized in this work to handle this challenge, which likely causes the singularity of inertia matrix. As a consequence, combined with the Lyapunov stability theory, it is confirmed that the proposed FTC scheme ensures that all the closed-loop signals are bounded. Simulation results are carried out to illustrate the effectiveness and advantage of the proposed control scheme.

Abstract: In this article, we design a new lightweight infrared optical system that fully meets airborne settings and greatly reduces the collection of invalid information. This new system targets the technical problems of stray light, strong invalid information, weak texture information of small targets, and low intensity of valid information under a complex background, which lead to difficult identification of small targets. Image enhancement of weak, small targets against complex backgrounds has been the key to improving small-target search and tracking technology. For the complex information that is still collected, an improved two-channel image enhancement processing algorithm is proposed: the A-channel adopts an improved nonlinear diffusion method and improved curvature filtering, and the B-channel adopts bootstrap filtering and a local contrast enhancement algorithm. The weak target is then extracted by the algorithm of weighted superposition. The false alarm rate is effectively weakened, and robustness is improved. As a result of the experimental data analysis, the method can effectively extract the weak targets in complex backgrounds, such as artificial backgrounds, surface vegetation, etc., enlarge the target gray value, and reduce Fa by 56%, compared with other advanced methods, while increasing Pd by 17%. The algorithm proposed in this paper is of great significance and value for weak target identification and tracking, and it has been successfully applied to industrial detection, medical detection, and in the military field.
