Abstract: Magnaporthe oryzae, a fungal pathogen that causes rice blast, which is the most destructive disease of rice worldwide, has the potential to perform both asexual and sexual reproduction. MAT loci, consisting of MAT genes, were deemed to determine the mating types of M. oryzae strains. However, investigation was rarely performed on the development and molecular mechanisms of the sexual reproduction of the fungus. In the present work, we analyzed the roles of two MAT loci and five individual MAT genes in the sex determination, sexual development and pathogenicity of M. oryzae. Both of the MAT1-1 and MAT1-2 loci are required for sex determination and the development of sexual structures. MAT1-1-1, MAT1-1-3 and MAT1-2-1 genes are crucial for the formation of perithecium. MAT1-1-2 impacts the generation of asci and ascospores, while MAT1-2-2 is dispensable for sexual development. A GFP fusion experiment indicated that the protein of MAT1-1-3 is distributed in the nucleus. However, all of the MAT loci or MAT genes are dispensable for vegetative growth, asexual reproduction, pathogenicity and pathogenicity-related developments of the fungus, suggesting that sexual reproduction is regulated relatively independently in the development of the fungus. The data and methods of this work may be helpful to further understand the life cycle and the variation of the fungus.

Abstract: Antimonene has attracted much attention due to its excellent characteristics of high carrier mobility, thermoelectric properties and high stability. It has great application prospects in Q-switched lasers, laser protection and spintronics. At present, the epitaxy growth of antimonene mainly depends on molecular beam epitaxy. We have successfully prepared antimonene films on silicon, germanium/silicon substrates for the first time using electron beam evaporation coating and studied the effects of the deposition rate and substrate on the preparation of antimonene; film characterization was performed via confocal microprobe Raman spectroscopy, via X-ray diffraction and using a scanning electron microscope. Raman spectroscopy showed that different deposition rates can lead to the formation of different structures of antimonene, such as α phase and β phase. At the same time, it was found that the growth of antimonene is also affected by different substrates and ion beams.

Abstract: Accurate pear sorting plays a crucial role in ensuring the quality of pears and increasing the sales of them. In the domain of intelligent pear sorting, precise target detection of pears is imperative. However, practical implementation faces challenges in achieving adequate accuracy in pear target detection due to the limitations of computational resources in embedded devices and the occurrence of occlusion among pears. To solve this problem, we built an image acquisition system based on pear sorting equipment and created a pear dataset containing 34,598 pear images under laboratory conditions. The dataset was meticulously annotated using the LabelImg software, resulting in a total of 154,688 precise annotations for pears, pear stems, pear calyxes, and pear defects. Furthermore, we propose an Extremely Compressed Lightweight Model for Pear Object Detection (ECLPOD) based on YOLOv7’s pipeline to assist in the pear sorting task. Firstly, the Hierarchical Interactive Shrinking Network (HISNet) was proposed, which contributed to efficient feature extraction with a limited amount of computation and parameters. The Bulk Feature Pyramid (BFP) module was then proposed to enhance pear contour information extraction during feature fusion. Finally, the Accuracy Compensation Strategy (ACS) was proposed to improve the detection capability of the model, especially for identification of the calyces and stalks of pears. The experimental results indicate that the ECLPOD achieves 90.1% precision (P) and 85.52% mAP50 with only 0.58 million parameters and 1.3 GFLOPs of computation in the homemade pear dataset in this paper. Compared with YOLOv7, the number of parameters and the amount of computation for the ECLPOD are compressed to 1.5% and 1.3%, respectively. Compared with other mainstream methods, the ECLPOD achieves an optimal trade-off between accuracy and complexity. This suggests that the ECLPOD is superior to these existing approaches in the field of object detection for assisting pear sorting tasks with good potential for embedded device deployment.

Abstract: Indoor signals are susceptible to NLOS propagation effects, multipath effects, and a dynamic environment, posing more challenges than outdoor signals despite decades of advancements in location services. In modern Wi-Fi networks that support both MIMO and OFDM techniques, Channel State Information (CSI) is now used as an enhanced wireless channel metric replacing the Wi-Fi received signal strength (RSS) fingerprinting method. The indoor multipath effects, however, make it less robust and stable. This study proposes a positive knowledge transfer-based heterogeneous data fusion method for representing the different scenarios of temporal variations in CSI-based fingerprint measurements generated in a complex indoor environment targeting indoor parking lots, while reducing the training calibration overhead. Extensive experiments were performed with real-world scenarios of the indoor parking phenomenon. Results revealed that the proposed algorithm proved to be an efficient algorithm with consistent positioning accuracy across all potential variations. In addition to improving indoor parking location accuracy, the proposed algorithm provides computationally robust and efficient location estimates in dynamic environments. A Cramer-Rao lower bound (CRLB) analysis was also used to estimate the lower bound of the parking lot location error variance under various temporal variation scenarios. Based on analytical derivations, we prove that the lower bound of the variance of the location estimator depends on the (i) angle of the base stations, (ii) number of base stations, (iii) distance between the target and the base station, djr (iv) correlation of the measurements, ρrjai and (v) signal propagation parameters σC and γ.

Abstract: In an indoor positioning system (IPS), transfer learning (TL) methods are commonly used to predict the location of mobile devices under the assumption that all training instances of the target domain are given in advance. However, this assumption has been criticized for its shortcomings in dealing with the problem of signal distribution variations, especially in a dynamic indoor environment. The reasons are: collecting a sufficient number of training instances is costly, the training instances may arrive online, the feature spaces of the target and source domains may be different, and negative knowledge may be transferred in the case of a redundant source domain. In this work, we proposed an online heterogeneous transfer learning (OHetTLAL) algorithm for IPS-based RSS fingerprinting to improve the positioning performance in the target domain by fusing both source and target domain knowledge. The source domain was refined based on the target domain to avoid negative knowledge transfer. The co-occurrence measure of the feature spaces (Cmip) was used to derive the homogeneous new feature spaces, and the features with higher weight values were selected for training the classifier because they could positively affect the location prediction of the target. Thus, the objective function was minimized over the new feature spaces. Extensive experiments were conducted on two real-world scenarios of datasets, and the predictive power of the different modeling techniques were evaluated for predicting the location of a mobile device. The results have revealed that the proposed algorithm outperforms the state-of-the-art methods for fingerprint-based indoor positioning and is found robust to changing environments. Moreover, the proposed algorithm is not only resilient to fluctuating environments but also mitigates the model’s overfitting problem.

Abstract: We numerically investigate a second harmonic generation (SHG) in a z-cut lithium niobate on insulator (LNOI) waveguide based on type-I mode phase matching (MPM) between two fundamental modes. A mode overlap factor that is close to unity is achieved and the normalized SHG efficiency reaches up to 72.1% W−1cm−2 at the telecommunication band, together with a large spectral tunability of 2.5 nm/K. Moreover, a bandwidth of about 100 nm for the broad SHG in a 5 mm-long LNOI ridge waveguide is demonstrated with this scheme. This stratagem will inspire new integrated nonlinear frequency conversion methods for versatile applications.
