Abstract: Artificial intelligence chips (AICs) are the intersection of integrated circuits and artificial intelligence (AI), involving structure design, algorithm analysis, chip fabrication and application scenarios. Due to their excellent ability in data processing, AICs show a long-term industrial prospect in big data services, cloud centers, etc. However, with the conceivable exhaustion of Moore’s Law, the size of traditional electronic AICs (EAICs) is gradually approaching the limit, and an architectural update is highly required. Photonic artificial intelligence chips (PAIC) utilize light beam propagation in the silicon waveguide, contributing to a high parallelism configuration, fast calculation speed and low latency. Due to light manipulation, PAICs perform well in anti-electromagnetic interference and energy conservation. This invited paper summarized the recent research on PAICs. The characteristics of different hardware structures are discussed. The current widely used training algorithm is given and the Photonic Design Automatic (PDA) simulation platform is introduced. In addition, the authors’ related work on PAICs is presented and we believe that PAICs may play a critical role in the deployment of data processing technology.

Abstract: TiC/316L stainless steel composites were prepared by selective laser melting. The adhesion work, interface energy and electronic structure of the TiC/γ-Fe interfaces in TiC/316L stainless steel composites were studied to investigate the heterogeneous nucleation potential of γ-Fe grains on TiC particles by using the first principle. The degree mismatch between TiC (001) and γ-Fe (001) interface was lowest. There are four TiC (001)/γ-Fe (001) interface models with different stacking sequences (on-site and bridge-site) and different atomic arrangement sequences (C centre and Ti centre). The results show that the Fe-on-Ti centre interface had the largest work of adhesion (3.87 J/m2) and lower interfacial energy (0.04 J/m2), it was more stable, and the interfacial energy of the model was lower than that of γ-Fe/Fe melt (0.24 J/m2). Strong Fe-C covalent bonds and Fe-Ti metallic bonds were formed near the interface, which increased the interfacial strength, indicating that TiC had strong heterogeneous nucleation potency for γ-Fe.

Abstract: In this paper, a novel diamond-assisted ring-core fiber (DRF) is proposed. With the introduction of a low-refractive-index diamond-shaped region located in the center of the core, the proposed fiber effectively eliminates spatial degeneracy of the LPmn mode groups and maintains a low level of birefringence. Under the fiber structure parameters proposed in this paper, the effective refractive index difference (Δneff) between the spatial modes supported by the fiber in the entire C-band is greater than 2.25 × 10−4, and the Δneff between adjacent modes falls within the scope of (2.11~9.41) × 10−4. The degree of degenerate separation between the two polarization modes of all modes is very low, which is 2~3 orders of magnitude lower than that of the spatial mode. By discussing the mode characteristics of DRF and several other center-assisted ring-core fibers, the method that can be used to manipulate the spatial mode degenerate separation with structural symmetry is obtained, which can be applied to provide guidance for similar fiber designs. The proposed fiber structure is a promising candidate in space division multiplexing systems.

Abstract: The modal gain equalization (MGE) of few-mode fiber amplifiers (FMFAs) ensures the stability of signal transmission. MGE mainly relies on the multi-step refractive index (RI) and doping profile of few-mode erbium-doped fibers (FM-EDFs). However, complex RI and doping profiles lead to uncontrollable residual stress variations in fiber fabrication. Variable residual stress apparently affects MGE due to its impacts on the RI. So, this paper focuses on the residual stress effects on MGE. The residual stress distributions of passive and active FMFs were measured using a self-constructed residual stress test configuration. As the erbium doping concentration increased, the residual stress of the fiber core decreased, and the residual stress of the active fibers was two orders of magnitude lower than that of the passive fiber. Compared with the passive FMF and the FM-EDFs, the residual stress of the fiber core completely transformed from tensile stress to compressive stress. This transformation led to an obvious smooth RI curve variation. The measurement values were analyzed with FMFA theory, and the results show that the differential modal gain of the FMFA increased from 0.96 to 1.67 dB as the residual stress decreased from 4.86 to 0.01 MPa.

Abstract: The 110 mining method is a high-efficiency entry-retaining technology without coal pillars or filling materials. At present, there is no precedent for its application in the Huaneng Group. In order to introduce this technology, it is planned to carry out experimental application research in the Yuwang NO.1 Coal Mine of the Huaneng Diandong mining area. The Yuwang NO.1 Coal Mine is a typical coal and gas outburst mine with a coal seam group. In view of the introduction of the 110 mining method under these conditions, first, the geological conditions of the Yuwang NO.1 Coal Mine in the Huaneng Diandong mining area are analyzed, the geological characteristics of the test mining face are summarized, and the practical feasibility of the 110 mining method is analyzed according to the geological characteristics of “one soft, one low, two high, and two complex”. Then, according to the engineering experience, calculations, and analysis, the key parameters of roof cutting of the test mining face in the Yuwang NO.1 Coal Mine are obtained, and with the help of a numerical simulation, the roof-cutting height, the roof-cutting angle, and the blasting parameters are numerically simulated and analyzed. The roof-cutting key parameters of the test face are obtained as follows: the roof-cutting depth is 7 m, the roof-cutting angle is 15°, and the blasting method is continuous hole blasting with 500 mm spacing. After that, according to the coal and gas outburst and the occurrence conditions of coal seams in the Yuwang NO.1 Coal Mine, a variety of gob closure design schemes and gob gas drainage design schemes are put forward, and the field effect investigation scheme is given. After the tunnels and open-off cut of the test coal mine’s first mining face are connected, under the guidance of the above research results, the field blasting test and the 110 mining method entry-retaining test are further carried out to verify the rationality of the design of the roof-cutting parameters and the feasibility of the gangue wall closure and gas drainage design. Furthermore, in the process of the field practice, continuous research is carried out on the stope pressure law and the adjacent layer gas drainage technology under the 110 mining method, and finally, the 110 mining method application technology system in the Diandong Mining Area is formed.
