    Abstract: This paper proposes a new form of composite beam: a multi-cavity steel-concrete composite beam. This composite beam uses internal perforated steel plate to connect the concrete with the steel structure, and shear connectors are no longer required, which is more suitable for industrial production. The mechanical properties of a multi-cavity steel-concrete composite beam in industrial applications are studied to avoid failures. In this paper, two multi-cavity steel-concrete composite beams with a size of 2500 mm × 200 mm × 300 mm were prepared, in which the angle of internal porous steel plate was set as 60° and 75°, respectively. A full-scale static load test was conducted on the beams to research its deformation and failure modes. The finite element software ANSYS was used to perform finite element modeling of multi-cavity steel-concrete composite beams and to analyze the influence of concrete strength, steel strength, porosity, and the angle of internal porous steel plate on the mechanical properties of composite beams. The results are as follows: before the composite beam reaches its serviceability limit state, its deformation basically shows a linear change; with the increase of load, the plastic deformation is gradually obvious, which can still provide a certain bearing capacity in the failure stage; the bearing capacity of the composite beam is positively correlated with the strength of concrete and steel, while negatively correlated with the porosity and the angle of internal porous steel plate; composite beams have large bearing capacity, good ductility and integrity.

    Abstract: Compared with traditional equal-section pile, the nodular parts of nodular pile expand the contact area between the pile and foundation soil, which can greatly improve the bearing capacity of pile foundation and increase the stability of pile body structure. In this paper, the mechanism of pile-soil interaction in the construction of vortex-compression nodular pile is studied with the purpose of evaluating the compressive capacity of nodular piles. Through the indoor model test and ABAQUS numerical simulation analysis, the compressive characteristics of 12 types of vortex-compression nodular pile are obtained, and the variation rules of the parameters of the compressive characteristics of vortex-compression nodular piles are quantitatively analyzed, including the failure pattern of foundation soil, load-settlement relationship, and load transfer law of vortex-compression nodular piles. The results showed that the compressive capacity of vortex-compression nodular piles has significant advantages over that of traditional equal-section piles. Based on the results of the indoor model test and numerical simulation, the calculation method and formula of the compressive capacity of vortex-compression nodular piles are given by modifying the corresponding calculation formula of traditional nodular piles. The new method and formula are more in line with the actual working conditions and provide theoretical and data support for the further engineering application of vortex-compression nodular piles.

    Abstract: The steel bent frame structure of single-story factory buildings is actually a spatial structure system. Different bent frame columns are connected with the roof of bent frame structure, making the columns work and bearing the load together. In the steel frame of the factory building with bridge cranes below 20 t, variable-section columns with corbels are used to bear the crane load. In this article, the steel bent frame column of single-story factory buildings was taken as the research object. The bent frame column was simplified as a cantilever variable stepped column bearing a transverse concentrated force at the top. After simplifying the model, the theoretical formula of deflection, rotating angle, and bending moment of the compression rod was put forward. Moreover, bending deformation and stability of variable stepped columns were analyzed in order to obtain the theoretical and practical formula, then the ANSYS software was used to simulate the bent column.

    Abstract: In the foamed-concrete-backfilled-gas-pipeline project, the fluidity of foamed concrete has a great impact on the construction quality. This research studied the fluidity of foamed concrete through laboratory tests. By changing the water–cement ratio, admixtures, additives, foaming-agent content and other test parameters, foamed concrete with different fluidities was prepared, and the effects of the above parameters on the fluidity of foamed concrete were analyzed. At the same time, the construction equipment was improved in the three steps of transportation, production and pouring. The results show the factors affecting the fluidity of foamed concrete are, in order of importance, foaming-agent content 〉 water–cement ratio 〉 water-reducer content 〉 admixture content. According to the orthogonal-test results, the control scheme meeting the fluidity requirements of the actual engineering project had gains as follows: the water–cement-ratio range from 0.5 to 0.6, the amount of admixture from 35% to 40%, the water-reducer content at 1% and the foaming-agent content from 3% to 3.5% so as to ensure the automatic leveling of foamed concrete under the best flow state.

    Abstract: This paper proposes a novel multi-cavity steel–concrete composite floor. The mechanical properties of multi-cavity steel–concrete composite floor were studied by static load test. Based on full-scale tests on 2500 × 1000 × 120 mm multi-cavity steel–concrete composite floors, the bearing capacity and failure characteristics of the composite floor were analyzed. Compared with the existing prefabricated floor, the reliability of the test was verified by finite element simulation. The influence of steel plate material thickness, floor thickness, cavity size and span on the mechanical properties of composite floor was analyzed. The results showed that the composite floor had stronger bearing capacity and better ductility and integrity than the existing precast floor. The bearing capacity and stiffness of composite floor were positively correlated with the thickness of steel plate and floor, and negatively correlated with the cavity size and span.

    Abstract: The marine derrick sometimes operates under extreme weather conditions, especially wind; therefore, the buckling analysis of the components in the derrick is one of the critical contents of engineering safety research. This paper aimed to study the local stability of marine derrick and propose an analytical method for geometrically nonlinear problems. The rod in the derrick is simplified as a compression rod with simply supported ends, which is subjected to transverse uniform load. Considering the second-order effect, the differential equations were used to establish the deflection, rotation angle, and bending moment equations of the derrick rod under the lateral uniform load. This method was defined as a geometrically nonlinear analytical method. Moreover, the deflection deformation and stability of the derrick members were analyzed, and the practical calculation formula was obtained. The Ansys analysis results were compared with the calculation results in this paper.

    Abstract: This is a study on how to reduce shrinkage and improve crack resistance of foamed concrete. By selecting different curing temperatures and humidity, six different curing conditions were analyzed. The shrinkage deformation and maximum crack width of foamed concrete blocks with water–cement ratios of 0.4 and 0.5, under six curing conditions, were measured by a comparator and optical microscope, and the cracking time was recorded. The effects of curing temperature, humidity and water–cement ratio on the shrinkage and crack resistance of the foamed concrete were analyzed by comparing the experimental results of each group. We studied the primary and secondary order of the three factors affecting the drying shrinkage of foamed concrete. The results show that: temperature is the primary factor that changes the drying shrinkage performance of foamed concrete, followed by the water–cement ratio, and finally humidity. The interaction of these three factors is not obvious. The shrinkage of foamed concrete increases with the increase in temperature; increasing the humidity of curing can control the water loss rate of foamed concrete and reduce shrinkage. Lower humidity and higher temperature will make cracks appear earlier; with an increase in the water–cement ratio, the initial cracking time is shortened and the cracking property of foamed concrete is improved.

    Abstract: In engineering practice, unsaturated compacted loess is often utilized as a filling material in the loess regions. The loess inevitably undergoes one-dimensional compressibility and creep deformation due to the long-term effects of the upper soil layers and buildings. When the deformation is large enough, it tends to damage buildings and threaten engineering safety. In this regard, the one-dimensional compressibility and creep properties of unsaturated compacted loess based on incremental loading (IL) and constant rate of strain (CRS) methods have been studied. First, soil materials with an initial moisture content of 15% were prepared and then compacted into soil samples with an 80 mm diameter and a 10 mm height. Second, the compressibility and creep properties of the compacted loess samples obtained via the IL and CRS compression tests were compared and analyzed. In this study, several parameters, including the primary compression index Cc and secondary compression index Cα, were derived. Meanwhile, the moisture content of the samples was measured via electrical resistivity methods. Finally, the microstructural characteristics were derived via nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) tests. The results showed that Cc and Cα increased with the increase in moisture content and vertical stress; Cα/Cc ranged from 0.026 to 0.042. Compared with the compression parameters and deformation of the samples, those obtained via the CRS tests are a little larger than those obtained via the IL tests for a given loading and initial moisture content. The electrical resistivity depends on pore water-connected channels, which were deeply affected by the initial moisture content, vertical stress and loading duration (or strain rate). Moreover, as vertical stress increased, the pore size and pore area gradually decreased, the coarse particles were broken, and the fine particles increased. The contacts between particles changed from point-to-point contacts and edge-to-edge contacts to face-to-face contacts. Meanwhile, as vertical stress and loading rate increased, the loess particles were apt to vary from irregular elongated particles to equiaxial circular particles. This investigation can provide a theoretical base and experimental support for improving ground stability and preventing landslide disasters in loess regions.

    Abstract: In this paper, the mechanical properties of perforated steel plate reinforced concrete were studied. Through the compression test of the specimen, the failure mode, the compressive ultimate bearing capacity, and the stress–strain curve of the specimen were obtained. The results show that the compressive strength of perforated steel plate reinforced concrete is twice that of the same grade of plain concrete; through the pull-out test of the specimen, the failure mode and the ultimate uplift bearing capacity were obtained. The finite element software ANSYS was used to simulate the perforated steel plate reinforced concrete specimen, and the results show that the model is reliable. Through the range analysis method, the influence degree of the three factors of the thickness of the perforated steel plate, the hole diameter, and the hole spacing on the compressive strength and the ultimate bearing capacity of the pull-out was studied, and the optimal solution was obtained. The analysis results show that the order of the three factors on the compression and pull-out tests is: the plate thickness of the perforated steel plate 〉 the hole diameter 〉 the hole spacing; the optimal combination of the compressive strength of the perforated steel plate reinforced concrete specimen is that the thickness of the perforated steel plate is 0.75 mm, the diameter of the perforated steel plate is 15 mm, and the spacing of the perforated steel plate is 5 mm; the optimal combination of the ultimate bearing capacity of the pull-out is that the thickness of the steel plate with holes is 1.0 mm, the diameter of the steel plate with holes is 15 mm, and the spacing of the steel plate with holes is 15 mm.

    Abstract: Foamed concrete is mostly used for backfilling of long-distance tunnels and compressive strength is an important technical index to control the quality of foamed concrete. The influence factors on compressive strength of low-density foamed concrete were obtained by the single factor test method based on the targeted dry density and compressive strength. The results show that the HT composed of pollution-free animal protein oil and vegetable oil is an efficient foaming agent and can produce stable foams. The cementation ability of cement can be fully expressed when a water to cement ratio of 0.45~0.5 is employed, making foamed concrete have a compressive strength higher than 2 MPa. The foam content is inversely proportional to the compressive strength and dry density of foamed concrete, and the volume ratio of slurry to foam should be 2:1~3:1. The content of fly ash is also inversely proportional to the compressive strength but positively proportional to the dry density. When the content of admixture is 40~55%, the compressive strength of foamed concrete with low density is not less than 2 MPa. The mixing proportion can be changed in the reasonable range to meet the requirements of different projects.
