Abstract: Phytochemical investigation of the folk medicinal plant Argyreia acuta Lour. has led to the isolation of a pair of new 3-alkylated coumarin enantiomers, (±)-acutamarin [(±)-1] and 3 known structurally related coumarins (2-4), along with 4 known flavonoids (5-8). The structures of these compounds were elucidated on the basis of extensive spectroscopic (including one-dimensional and two-dimensional nuclear magnetic resonance) analyses and by comparison of their spectral data with those reported in the literature. The absolute configurations of ( − )-1 and ( + )-1 were proposed by comparison of experimental and calculated electronic circular dichroism data. Compounds 5 and 7 exhibited in vitro anti-inflammatory activity by inhibiting the production of nitric oxide with IC 50 values of 24.54 ± 0.36 μM and 10.60 ± 0.15 μM, respectively.

Abstract: A low-specific-speed centrifugal pump equipped with long and short blades is studied. Emphasis is placed on the pump performance and inner flow characteristics at low flow rates. Each short blade is intentionally shifted towards the back surface of the neighboring long blade, and the outlet parts of the short blades are uniformly shortened. Unsteady numerical simulation is conducted to disclose inner flow patterns associated with the modified design. Thereby, a comparison is enabled between the two schemes featured by different short blades. Both practical operation data and numerical results support that the deviation and cutting of the short blades can eliminate the positive slope of pump head curve at low flow rates. Therefore, the modification of short blades improves the pump operation stability. Due to the shortening of the outlet parts of the short blades, velocity distributions between impeller outlet and radial diffuser inlet exhibit explicitly altered circumferential flow periodicity. Pressure fluctuations in the radial diffuser are complex in terms of diversified periodicity and amplitudes. Flow rate influences pressure fluctuations in the radial diffuser considerably. As flow rate decreases, the regularity of the orbit of hydraulic loads exerted upon the impeller collapses while hydraulic loads exerted upon the short blades remain circumferentially periodic.

Abstract: Space arm system is a typical multibody mechanical system requiring high operation stability and precision connected by kinematic joints. As joint clearance is inevitable during the manufacturing and mounting process, it turns into a critical problem affecting the dynamic characteristics and kinematic accuracy of the mechanism. A space arm system deploying stably and accurately is the prerequisite to guarantee the final satellite pointing accuracy once it is into its working state. Thus, the space arm system needs to have good dynamic characteristics and stability during its deploying process and to have accurate and reliable positioning characteristics during its locking process. For the deploying process, the mathematical model of a multibody system with clearance joint has been established as a foundation to study the influence of clearance properties, including clearance size, clearance joint locations, numbers of clearance joints and lubrication on the dynamic performance and motion stability of a two-degrees-of-freedom space arm system. The mathematical model of a locking mechanism has been established to study the clearance effects on the pointing accuracy of the space arm system during its locking process. The simulation results show that, the clearance has different effects on the dynamic characteristics of the space arm system during its different working processes.

Abstract: Linaclotide, a guanylate cyclase C agonist that improves the symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome with predominant constipation (IBS-C), has been recently approved for IBS-C treatment. This study aimed to report real-world data on linaclotide treatment in China. Methods: This was a prospective multicentre study of the effectiveness of linaclotide treatment in patients with IBS-C from 10 primary medical institutions. Changes in defecation, abdominal symptoms, the IBS symptom severity scale (IBS-SSS), IBS quality of life questionnaire (IBS-QOL), Zung Self-Rating Anxiety Scale and Self-Rating Depression Scale in patients were evaluated to determine the drug’s clinical efficacy and safety. Results: We enrolled 97 patients (mean age: 52.39 ± 13.99 years), 55 of whom were women (56.7%). In terms of efficacy, the number of the patients’ defecation per week and Bristol stool form scale scores significantly increased at week 4 and week 12 compared with the values at the baseline. The baseline average IBS-SSS score was 211.01 ± 81.23. Of the patients, 24 had severe IBS-C, and their IBS-SSS scores at week 4 (51.81 ± 54.42) and week 12 (9.3 ± 30.39) significantly decreased and showed a pronounced improvement. The IBS-QOL total scores at week 4 and week 12 gradually decreased compared with that at the baseline and the QOL significantly improved. Treatment satisfaction rate was 79.3% in week 4 and 100% in week 12, showing a gradually increased satisfaction and significant differences. However, 11 cases (11.3%) had diarrhoea. Conclusion: Linaclotide has proved to be a safe and effective drug to improve IBS-C symptoms and severity.

Abstract: Wireless sensor network has been widely used in different fields, such as structural health monitoring and artificial intelligence technology. The routing planning, an important part of wireless sensor network, can be formalized as an optimization problem needing to be solved. In this article, a reinforcement learning algorithm is proposed to solve the problem of optimal routing in wireless sensor networks, namely, adaptive TD([Formula: see text]) learning algorithm referred to as ADTD([Formula: see text] ) under Markovian noise, which is more practical than i.i.d. (identically and independently distributed) noise in reinforcement learning. Moreover, we also present non-asymptotic analysis of ADTD([Formula: see text]) with both constant and diminishing step-sizes. Specifically, when the step-size is constant, the convergence rate of [Formula: see text] is achieved, where [Formula: see text] is the number of iterations; when the step-size is diminishing, the convergence rate of [Formula: see text] is also obtained. In addition, the performance of the algorithm is verified by simulation.

Abstract: In this paper, a one-dimensional beam element model on elastic foundations is used to study the static and dynamic performances of a gas-lubricated multileaf foil journal bearing. The two-dimensional Reynolds equation is solved by using the finite element method coupled with the elastic deformation equation simultaneously for the converged steady state. Subsequently, a perturbation method is used to calculate the dynamic characteristics including stiffness and damping coefficients. The effects of structural and operating parameters, such as bump stiffness, leaf foil thickness, attitude angle, bearing number, and eccentricity ratio are discussed in detail. The results show that the parameters greatly influence the bearing performance, which is helpful information for designing and manufacturing an experimental prototype.
