Abstract: Background : Individualized three-dimensional (3D) printed skull base tumor model for each patient was printed to discuss a surgical plan with the surgeon and assistant before surgery. This article would demonstrate 3D printer use in skull base tumor surgery. Materials and Methods : Between January 2019 and August 2021, an individualized 3D-printed model was produced for preoperative planning for skull base tumor cases. The radiologic image files were obtained from each patient. The skull and other structures were extracted from images and segmented via the commercialized program. The generated objects were exported to a 3D image file and implemented as a 3D model. Each segmented object was printed with a 3D printer. Results : Seven cases were enrolled in the study, and there were four male patients and three female patients. The median age was 61 years (range, 36-67 years). Four cases were skullbase meningiomas, one case was a schwannoma, one case was a giant pituitary adenoma, and one case was a cerebellar metastatic tumor. Two patients underwent total gross resection, four patients underwent near-total resection, and one case was resected sub-totally. There was no significant postoperative morbidities. Conclusions : Individualized 3D-printed models are beneficial in pre-planning for resection of the skull base tumor. Although there are time-consuming and limitation of economic budget, it is expected that more detailed models can be provided at a lower with an advanced technology in near future. This approach provides conceptual understanding of thorough knowledge around the anatomical complex.
