Abstract:
A novel approach to fabricate poly(propylene)/clay nanocomposites under an electric field without adding any compatibilizer was proposed. The electrically activated poly(propylene)/clay nanocomposites show enhanced rheological properties with the disappearance of the characteristic peak in X‐ray diffraction. Transmission electron microscopy was used to confirm the microstructural changes of the nanocomposites. Electric field was found to facilitate destruction of the layer‐stacking and separation of the silicate layers. Time sweep results of poly(propylene)/clay composites before and after applying an electric field at 180 °C. magnified image Time sweep results of poly(propylene)/clay composites before and after applying an electric field at 180 °C.
