Abstract:
Late glacial and Holocene morphology and evolution of the Zapadnaya Beresina Valley near Volozhin (Byelorussia). — Zapadnaya Beresina represents a classical example of an "underfit" river. There are three Late glacial terrace and two levels of flood plain here. Hydrological changes — immense decrease of discharges — had a décisive influence on post glacial evolution of the valley. For the first time in Bielorussia, it was possible to state here a classical cycle of changes from braided channels through Late glacial large meanders to Holocene small meanders. The result of human impact and deforestation were erosional dissections of the valley slopes which induced formation of alluvial fans covering the peated bottom of the valley (440 B.P.).
