Abstract: The models of pure TiO2 and La/Ce/Pr/Nd singly doped TiO2 are established by using the plane wave potential based on density functional theory. After geometry optimization, the stability of the mixed structure is analyzed by calculating the formation energy. Then the magnetic state of each doped model is analyzed by calculating the spin electronic state density. The analyses are verified by comparing magnetic ground state energies. Finally the influences of each rare earth element on band structure and absorption spectrum of TiO2 are discussed. The results show that La/Pr doped TiO2 presents ferromagnetism, Nd doped TiO2 exhibits anti-ferromagnetism, and Ce doped TiO2 is paramagnetic body. The band structure of TiO2 is affected less because Ce is doped and the red shift of absorption spectrum is not obvious. While visible light absorption coefficient of TiO2 is effectively improved because La/Nd is doped. Pr doped TiO2 manifests an absorption peak in the infrared region. If the electronic structure is considered in the further calculation research, one should make sure what magnetic state the system is in and whether there is spin-electron band splitting effect firstly. In order to obtain the correct results, the influence of the band structure should not be ignored.

Abstract: Two phenomenological models based on the experimental samples of giant magnetoimpedance (GMI) effect are proposed. The first model is a coaxial_cable wire composed of copper cylindrical wire electroplated with a soft magnetic layer, and the second is a sandwiched film structured by two soft magnetic layers, within whic h Cu or Ag serves as the central layer. Their characteristics are discussed theo retically using Maxwell equations and Landau_Lifshitz equation. It is proved tha t for the two models the origination of enhancement of GMI effect is the same, a nd the difference between them arises from the parameter of their geometry. The structure of double deck is better than a single layer for the identical magneti c materials in GMI effect. The application of the theoretical models to real mat erials is examined. Predictions by using the models are qualitatively in agreeme nt with experimental data.

Abstract: Planar Hall effects in exchange biased FeMn/NiFe bilayers were measured under magnetic fields rotated in the film plane. Detailed magnetic anisotropy analysis shows that there is no additional uniaxial anisotropy induced by the interfacial coupling in this system, while the instability of anti-ferromagnetic grains or the formation of many domains in ferromagnetic layer may play an important role responsible for the difference between exchange biasing fields obtained by reversible and irreversible measurements.

Abstract: Co-Pt-C grain films with in plan magnetic anisotropy and large coercivity Hc were prepared by sputtering on Si substrates in multilayer form, with post-annealing in vacuum at 700℃ for 1?h. After annealing, Co-Pt particles trans form from amorphous to fcc CoPt3 and fct CoPt, and C remains in disorder state. Effects of Pt and C concentration on the magnetic properties of the films are studied. The maximum Hc is 430kA/m when the content of Pt is 70 vol% and the thickness of C layer is 0.4nm. The shoulder developed on the hysteresis loop is analyzed.

Abstract: (Ni0.81Fe0.19)1-xCrx/NiFe/PtMn films were prepared by magnetron sputtering. The formation and thermal stablitity of NiFe/PtMn bilayers were systematically investigated. The experiment shows that the grain size of PtMn layer depends strongly on the change in Cr concent ration. Thermal stability of exchange bias indicates that (Ni0.81Fe0.19)1-xCrx/NiFe/PtMn films with larger PtMn grains have a higher blocking temperature, and the bigger grain size is helpful in reducing the critical thickness of PtMn layer, which is consistent with Mauri's model.

Abstract: Planar Hall effect(PHE) in Ta(8nm)/NiFe(7nm)/Cu(2.4nm)/NiFe(4.4nm)/FeMn(14nm)/Ta(6nm) spin valve multilayer have been measured in magnetic fields rotating in the film plane. A “mixed” effect of the free and pinned layers on anisotropic magnetoresistance (AMR) has been obtserved. The result shows that the PHE can give more information about the magnetic configurations of the spin valve multilayers than the usual MR measurements.

Abstract: The sandwiched film structured by two soft magnetic layers with the Cu layer as the central one is proposed, which is based on the experimental samples of giant magnetoimpedance (GMI) effect. Its characteristics are discussed theoretically using Maxwell equations and Landau-Lifshitz equation wiuh calculating the anisotropy of the magnetic layers.Application of the theoretical model to real materials is examined.Predictions of the model compare well qualitatively with experimental data. The anisotropic constant Hk of the magnetic layer is very important. The GMI effect is modified by both the magnitude and the orientation of Hk.The best Hk is about 400A/m along the normal to the current. It is also proved that any magnetostriction in the magnetic layer of the sandwiched film damages the GMI effect.
