Abstract:
What's new? A new tool could help determine which gastric cancer patients are likely to relapse. Around half of gastric cancers return within 2 years after surgery. How can we predict which ones will recur? MicroRNAs have been studied as to their role in launching cancer, but not so much their role in recurrence. In this article, the authors screened a large number of miRNAs in 400 gastric cancer patients. They created an index of 7 miRNAs and 7miR + pathological factors that reliably classified patients according to their risk of recurrence. These signatures could provide a noninvasive test for gastric cancer recurrence.
