Abstract:
What's new? Drinking alcohol boosts colorectal cancer risk, but cancer is a heterogeneous disease. Which types, specifically, does alcohol promote? These authors collected data from more than 40,000 people, asking how much alcohol they consumed over their lifetime and comparing that with cancer risk. They found the more alcohol they drank, the higher the risk of colorectal cancer, specifically BRAF− tumors. Drinking did not affect incidence of BRAF+ tumors. The presence or absence of a KRAS mutation didn't appear to make a difference.
