Abstract: Based on the equivalence principle and the reciprocity theorem, the multiple scattering up to Nth-order by N parallel 2-D targets arbitrarily located in a plane wave/Gaussian beam is considered. The first-order solution can easily be obtained by calculating the scattered field from isolated targets. However, due to the difficulty in formulating the couple scattered field, it is almost impossible to find an exact analytical solution for the higher order scattered field. In order to overcome this difficulty, the composite scattering field is studied by employing the technique based on the reciprocity theorem and the equivalence principle and a surface integral solution up to Nth-order is obtained. To evaluate the ith order scattering field, only the i-1th order scattered field from scatterers and the equivalent surface electric and/or magnetic current density induced by the incident wave are required. Using the approach proposed in this paper, the bi- and mono-static scattering width of the incident field by parallel adjacent inhomogeneous plasma-coated conducting cylinders is calculated and the dependence of attenuation of the scattering width on the thickness of the coated layer, the electron number density, the collision frequency and the radar frequency is discussed in detail.

Abstract: Differential scattering field of vertical incident Gaussian beam from a two-dimensional target near a plane interface is studied by means of a new hybrid method based on the reciprocity theorem (RT), the image theory (IT) and the method of moment (MoM). By application of IT, the plane interface is replaced by the virtual image of the actual target, and an equivalent model of the scattering problem is presented. In the equivalent model, the scattered field from the actual target and the virtual one are numerically calculated by employing MoM, and the rescattered coupling fields between the actual target and the virtual one are evaluated utilizing the combination of MoM and RT. The numerical results of these tests are presented and compared with previously published calculations for the same problems.

Abstract: Electromagnetic scattering with interaction between the perfect conducting plate and the 2-D conducting slightly rough surface is investigated. Taking the advantage of s newly developed technique that utilizes the reciprocity theorem, the difficulty in formulating the secondary scattered fields from the composite target is reduced to the evaluation of integral equation involving the polarization currents of the conducting plate and the scattered fields from the slightly rough surface. The polarization currents on the plate and the electromagnetic scattering field are solved by using physical optics approximation and small perturbation method, respectively, and the solution for the composite scattering cross section is obtained and calculated. In particular, the results of backscattering from the composite mode are discussed in detail.

Abstract: Based on the equivalence principle and the reciprocity theorem, the problem of electromagnetic scattering from two adjacent objects is considered and a solution that accounts for multiple scattering up to second-order is evaluated. In general, the first-order solution can easily be obtained by calculating the scatted field from isolated targets when illuminated by a plane-wave. However, due to the difficulty in formulating the coupled scattering field, it is impossible to find an exact analytical solution for the second-order scattered field. In this work, the second-order solution of electromagnetic scattering from two adjacent conducting/dielectric objects is derived by employing the reciprocity theorem and this solution is simplified from volume integral to surface integral form by using the equivalence principle. Meanwhile, the relation between the secondary scattering field from one target and the other is derived. Finally, the composite scattering field from two adjacent spheres is calculated using the formulas obtained in this work. The bistatic scattering pattern is discussed and the results are compared with numerical computations based on Time Domain Integral Equation Method (TDIEM).

Abstract: In this paper, an improved 2D fractal model is present for modeling the sea surface, the fractal spectrum of which satisfies the positive or negative power law for spatial wave numbers smaller or larger than the fundamental wave number, respectively. The spatial correlation function and the spectrum of this improved model show good agreements with those given in the literature for different windspeed. Based on the Kirchhoff approximation, the scattering coefficient and the scattering intensity coefficient of this new model are derived and evaluated. The angular distributions of backscattering intensity coefficient of the improved fractal sea model are compared with those of the conventional model, the influence of the incident frequency, windspeed and wind-direction on the backscattering intensity coefficient is also discus sed in detail.

Abstract: Based on the 2-D ocean-like surface of linear model and the first-order small slope approximation, the characteristic of Doppler shift for different order Doppler spectra of scattered echoes is investigated and the formula of Doppler shift is derived. Comparing with the conventional formula of Doppler shift, the influence of the wind speed and the orbit motion of the sea wave in large scale is considered in our result. By employing the two-scale model of rough surface and physical mechanism of Doppler shift,a formula of the spectrum widening for the scattered field from the oceanic surface is also presented. The numerical results evaluated by the formulae in this study are compared with the simulated and the measured data, the dependence of the Doppler shift and the spectrum widening on the parameters, such as the wind speed, the frequency of the incident wave and the incident angle, etc. are discussed. It is found that the formulae obtained in this research can be used to predict the Doppler shift and the spectrum widening.

Abstract: Based on the equivalence principle and the reciprocity theorem, the composite electromagnetic scattering from two adjacent finite length cylinders is considered and a solution that accounts for multiple scattering up to second-order is deduced. Numerical results obtained by our formulas are compared with the results obtained by the method of moments. Meanwhile, the dependence of the composite scattered field on the parameters, such as the distance between the cylinders, the length of the cylinders, polarization state and so on, is discussed.

Abstract: In this paper, the two-scale model method, which is much applicable to the comp utation of the electromagnetic scattering field from the rough sea surface, is used to calculate the backscattering cross-section of the one-dimensional time-varying fractal rough sea surface, the related results are also compared with those calculated by small perturbation method. The fractal characteristic of the Doppler spectra of the backscattering signal from the sea surface is studied, th e dependances of the the backscattering cross-section and the width of Doppler s pectra on the incident angle and fractal dimension are also analyed. Finally, th e relationship between the central frequency of the Doppler spectra and the Brag g resonant frequency is discussed in detail.
