Abstract: Reconstruction of realistic economic data often causes social economists to analyze the underlying driving factors in time-series data or to study volatility. The intrinsic complexity of time-series data interests and attracts social economists. This paper proposes the bilateral permutation entropy (BPE) index method to solve the problem based on partly ensemble empirical mode decomposition (PEEMD), which was proposed as a novel data analysis method for nonlinear and nonstationary time series compared with the T -test method. First, PEEMD is extended to the case of gold price analysis in this paper for decomposition into several independent intrinsic mode functions (IMFs), from high to low frequency. Second, IMFs comprise three parts, including a high-frequency part, low-frequency part, and the whole trend based on a fine-to-coarse reconstruction by the BPE index method and the T -test method. Then, this paper conducts a correlation analysis on the basis of the reconstructed data and the related affected macroeconomic factors, including global gold production, world crude oil prices, and world inflation. Finally, the BPE index method is evidently a vitally significant technique for time-series data analysis in terms of reconstructed IMFs to obtain realistic data.

Abstract: In order to understand the instability characteristics of surrounding rock in the process of deep roadway excavation, a three-dimensional numerical model was established by FLAC3D to systematically analyze the influence of roadway surrounding rock stability under different in situ stress distribution forms, and the environmental coefficient of mining-induced stress η was defined, the larger the environmental coefficient of mining-induced stress is, the larger the surrounding rock stress environment is, and the range where the η coefficient is greater than 0.2 is called with the destruction-danger zone. When the initial vertical stress is maximum principal stress and minimum principal stress, by comparing the roadway along the middle ground stress direction and minimum or maximum in-situ stress direction, the variation characteristics of displacement, failure zone and failure hazard zone of roadway surrounding rock are obtained, which provides theoretical basis for the treatment of disaster accidents such as roadway surrounding rock instability and rock burst caused by deep high in-situ stress.

Abstract: Ulcerative colitis is a common inflammatory bowel disease, and the activation of thePI3K/AKT and NF- κ B signaling pathways plays a pivotal role in its pathogenesis. Dihydroartemisinin (DHA) is a widely used antimalarial drug and has shown anticancer effect partially through inhibiting the activation of PI3K/AKT and NF- κ B. This study aimed to investigate the effect of dihydroartemisinin on ulcerative colitis and its mechanism. Adult male C57 mice were subjected to 3.0% dextran sulfate sodium (DSS) for seven days; simultaneously, dihydroartemisinin or control saline was administered by oral gavage once a day. In vitro, the intestinal epithelial cell-6 was treated with LPS for 24 hours with or without dihydroartemisinin combined with PI3K/Akt activator 740 Y-P or NF- κ B activator phorbol myristate acetate. Western blotting was used to test the activation of PI3K/AKT and NF- κ B. Dihydroartemisinin significantly ameliorated body weight loss, shortened colon length, and increased DAI in DSS-induced colitis. Meanwhile, histological damage was improved and was accompanied by decreased expression and secretion of proinflammatory cytokines. Moreover, DSS-induced elevation of phosphorylation of PI3K, AKT, IKK α , I κ B α , and NF- κ B (p65) was remarkably blunted by dihydroartemisinin both in vivo and in vitro, indicating an inhibitive property on the PI3K/AKT and NF- κ B signaling pathways. Furthermore, administration of 740 Y-P or PMA significantly blocked protective activity of dihydroartemisinin against colitis in vitro. In conclusion, dihydroartemisinin can attenuate DSS-induced colitis, and its anticolitis effect might be mediated via the PI3K/AKT and NF- κ B signaling pathways. DHA might serve as a promising drug for patients with ulcerative colitis.

Abstract: The capabilities of mining equipment and technology in China have been improving rapidly in recent years. Correspondingly, in the western part of the country, the mining heights of longwall faces in shallow-buried coal seams have shown an increasing trend, resulting in enhanced mining efficiency. However, the problems associated with the possible failure of the coal wall then increase and remain a serious difficulty, restricting safe and efficient mining operations. In the present study, the 12401 longwall face of the Shangwan Coal Mine, Inner Mongolia, China, with a mining height of 8.8 m, is taken as an example to study the mechanisms underlying failure phenomena of coal walls and their control methods. Our results show that the failure region inward of the longwall face is small in shallow-buried coal seams, and the damage degree of the exposed coal wall is low. The medium and higher sections of the coal wall display a dynamic failure mode, while the broken coal blocks, given their initial speed, threaten the safety of coal miners. A mechanical model was developed, from which the conditions for tensile failure and structural instability are deduced. Horizontal displacement in the lower part of the coal wall is small, where no tensile stress emerges. On the other hand, in the intermediate and higher parts of the coal wall, horizontal displacement is relatively large. In addition, tensile stress increases first with increasing distance from the floor and then decreases to zero. Experiments using physical models representing different mining heights have been carried out and showed that the horizontal displacement increases from 6 to 12 mm and load-bearing capacity decreases from 20 to 7.9 kN when the coal wall increases in height from 3 to 9 m. Furthermore, failure depth and failure height show an increasing trend. It is therefore proposed that a large initial support force, large maximum support force, large support stiffness, and large support height of a coal wall-protecting guard are required for the improved stability of high coal walls, which operate well in the Shangwan coal mine.

Abstract: Objective . To assess the current clinical evidence of manufactured Chinese herbal formulae (MCHF) for knee osteoarthritis (KOA). Methods . Seven databases were searched from inception to May 2015. Eligible randomized controlled trials investigating the effectiveness of MCHF for KOA were included. Data extraction, methodological assessment, and meta-analyses were conducted according to the Cochrane standards. Results . A total of 17 kinds of MCHF were identified from the twenty-six included trials. Meta-analyses showed that MCHF significantly relieved the global pain of knee joints, either used alone or combined with routine treatments. Additionally, MCHF plus routine treatments significantly decreased the scores of WOMAC and Lequesne index. However, there were no statistical differences between MCHF group and routine treatment group in walk-related pain and WOMAC scores. No significant differences were found in Lysholm scores. There were twenty-one trials that mentioned adverse events. A pooled analysis showed that adverse events occurred more frequently in control group compared with MCHF group. Conclusions . Our results indicated that MCHF showed some potential benefits for KOA. However, we still cannot draw firm conclusions due to the poor methodological quality of included trials. More high-quality RCTs would help to confirm the evidence.

Abstract: A strong earthquake-induced hazard has obvious long-term and spatial heterogeneity, which will result in continuous social and economic losses. Measuring the socioeconomic development level of the disaster area is of great significance for long-term development reconstruction after an earthquake. First, the kernel density estimation (KDE) is used to analyze the spatial effects of 10 extremely earthquake-stricken areas of the Wenchuan earthquake in this paper. Second, the economic gravity centers from 2006 to 2016 are calculated, and the temporal and spatial variation characteristics of the socioeconomic development level of the study area are analyzed. Finally, the relationship between the effects of strong earthquake-induced hazards and the level of socioeconomic development in earthquake-stricken areas is discussed. The results indicate that the effect of landslide hazards show an oscillatory attenuation trend with time from 2008 to 2016 and has significant spatial differentiation characteristics. The economic gravity centers move in the direction of “moving northeast first and moving southwest later” with time, and the movement trend is closely related to the effect of hazard and the industrial structure of the earthquake-stricken areas.

Abstract: To date, electric bikers’ (e-bikers’) red-light running (RLR) behavior is often viewed as one of the main contributors to e-bike-related accidents, especially for traffic scenarios with high e-bike ridership. In this paper, we aim to understand e-bikers’ RLR behavior based on structural equation modeling. Specifically, the predictive utility of the theory of planned behavior (TPB), prototype willingness model (PWM), and their combined form, TPB-PWM model, is used to analyze e-bikers’ RLR behavior, and a comparison analysis is made. The analyses of the three modeling approaches are based on the survey data collected from two online questionnaires, where more than 1,035 participant-completed questionnaires are received. The main findings in this paper are as follows: (i) Both PWM and TPB-PWM models could work better in characterizing e-bikers’ RLR behavior than the TPB model. The former two models explain more than 80% (81.3% and 81.4%, respectively) of the variance in e-bikers’ RLR behavior, which is remarkably higher than that of the TPB model (only 74.3%). (ii) It is also revealed that RLR willingness contributes more on influencing the RLR behavior than RLR intention, which implies that such behavior is dominated by social reactive decision-making rather than the reasoned one. (iii) Among the examined psychological factors, attitude, perceived behavioral control, past behavior, prototype perceptions (favorability and similarity), RLR intention, and RLR willingness were the crucial predictors of e-bikers’ RLR behavior. Our findings also support designing of more effective behavior-change interventions to better target e-bikers’ RLR behavior by considering the influence of the identified psychological factors.
