Abstract:
In this work, we fabricated ZrB 2 -SiC-ZrSi 2 composites containing different fractions (0.5-5 vol.%) of ZrSi 2 by spark plasma sintering at 1600 °C under a uniaxial pressure of 30 MPa. The addition effect of ZrSi 2 on the composition, microstructure and mechanical properties of the composites were investigated. The results indicated that the densification of ZrB 2 -SiC-ZrSi 2 composites could be enhanced along with the increase of the added fraction of ZrSi 2 , with its relative density reaching the maximum of about 85.6% when 3 vol.% of ZrSi 2 was added. The hardness of the composites would decrease after the addition of ZrSi 2 in the range of 960-1200 HV 5 . The flexural strength initially increased and then decreased with the addition of ZrSi 2 , reaching a maximum of about 330 MPa when 3 vol.% of ZrSi 2 was added.
