Abstract:
The pandemic events of 2020–2021 initiated long‐overdue shifts in internationally led research and education project roles, and facilitated enhanced local leadership within communities living alongside primates at risk of extinction. Locally‐based people added to their professional and technical skill‐sets in the field of primate ecology, providing a foundation upon which they could secure conservation‐compatible livelihoods. Technology made international collaborations and project support possible. Access to technology is crucial to growing capacity within Malagasy communities, but is still unreliable or non‐existent in many rural areas of Madagascar.
