Abstract: The violet system of LuO is interpreted as a 2 Σ(b βJ ) →  2 Σ(b βS ) transition. This assumption accounts for the broadening of the lines of some branches, and the irregularities in the intensity ratios between the G = 3 and 4 components of a line are explained in terms of a b βJ tendency of the ground state. The detailed study of the (0–0) band allowed the accurate calculation of the fundamental state constants, as well as the perturbed constants of the excited state by taking into consideration only the unshifted lines. With the help of a novel computer program, it is shown that the deperturbed constants don't differ appreciably from the perturbed ones. The value of the perturbation matrix element and of the rotational constant of the perturbing state are obtained. The nature of the latter is not determined with certainty; however, it seems that most probably a 2 Σ– 2 Π 1/2 type interaction is involved. The intensity differences between the lines of the R and P branches corresponding to the same excited sublevel may be explained on the basis of this hypothesis.

Abstract: Three new electronic band systems, assigned to LaH, have been observed both in emission (by means of a composite wall hollow cathode) and absorption (in a King furnace). The similar systems of LaD have been observed in emission. They appear between 5300 and 6500 Å. Rotational analyses of the bands have made it possible to identify the corresponding transitions as 3 Φ →  3 Δ, 1 Δ →  1 Π, and 1 Σ →  1 Π The singlet transitions have a common lower 1 Π state. A rotational analysis of the (0, 0) and (1, 1) bands of the 3 Φ 4 , 3  →  3 Δ 3 , 2 sub-systems and of the (0, 0) band of singlet systems (with the exception of the 1 Σ →  1 Π system of LaD) is presented in this paper.

Abstract: New bands assigned to scandium hydride have been observed in emission in the green (5580 Å) and near infrared (8603 Å) regions. The identity of the carrier as ScH is established on the basis of the observed deuteride spectrum.

Abstract: Six new electronic band systems, ascribed to YH, have been observed in emission in the negative glow of a 'composite wall' hollow cathode lamp. Five of the similar systems of YD have also been observed. They appear between 4500 and 9000 Å. The vibrational analysis and observation of the related isotope effect permitted us to distinguish and partially classify these systems. Rotational analysis made it possible to identify the corresponding transitions as 3 Φ →  3 Δ, ( 1 Π, 1 Σ) →  1 Σ, and ( 1 Σ, 1 Δ) →  1 Π.Rotational constants of the ν = 0 states are given in this paper. Moreover, equilibrium molecular constants derived from the rotational study of a number of bands, namely (0, 0) and (1, 1) of YH and (1, 0), (2, 1), (3, 2), (0, 0), (1, 1), (2, 2), and (0, 1) of YD, are given for the states of the 1 Σ →  1 Σ transition. Franck–Condon factors of this system are estimated.
