Abstract:
We investigate the formation and distribution of nitrogen hot spots and hot moments using a high‐resolution, 3‐D reactive transport model Results indicate that nitrogen hot spots occur because of complex fluid mixing, localized reduced zones, and biogeochemical variability Chemically reduced sediments of the Rifle floodplain have 70% greater potential for nitrate removal than nonreduced zones
