Abstract: AbstractThis study aimed to determine the composition and structure of Semayang forest and the Importance Value Index (IVI) of riparian forest in its role of reducing the wave rate. The method used is multilevel plot method of 20x20 m for sampling of tree level, 5x5 m for sapling level and 2x2 m for seedling level. The result showed that the highest Importance Value Index at tree level was dominated by 3 species, they were L. javanicum (101,663), M. speciosa (76,201) and G. renghas (65,962). At sapling level dominated by P. indica (102,990). At seedling level dominated by M. pigra (95,004)andP. brevistipitata (70,109). In addition, Semayang riparian forest has an ecological function as a wave retaining. It can be seen based on the vegetation density and horizontal structure of species that make up the forest. Vegetation density is predicted to reduce the rate of Semayang lake waves that occur during flood season. Keywords: Composition and Structure, Riparian Forest, Semayang Lake.

Abstract: Abstract. Caterpillar grayak (Spodoptera litura) is one of the pests in various types of vegetable plants are polyphagous and have a wide range of hosts. One common way of controlling farmers to overcome Spodoptera litura attack is to use insecticide. The use of insecticides that are not rational will accelerate the occurrence of pest resistance against insecticides. An alternative is needed to develop biological products which are generally narrow-spectrum chemicals to target organisms. Flowers at four (Mirabilis jalapa) contain bioactive compounds that are toxic. M. Jalapa contains some secondary metabolite compounds such as saponins, flavonoids, tannins, and polyphenols. Based on the description above it is necessary to conduct a research to determine the percentage mortality of caterpillar grayak on giving the leaf extract at four o'clock flowers. The method used is leaf dipping methods and analysis with POLO-PC software. The results showed that 1.6% concentration of extract of M. jalapa can kill the number of larvae as much as 30 tails with a percentage of 75% within 48 hours. The LC50 value of mortality of M. jalapa extract on Spodoptera litura larvae was 0,507% (0,378-0,661 with p 〈 0,05) with slope1,516 ± 0,318.Keywords: Bioinsecticides, Mirabilis jalapa, Spodoptera litura, Mortality

Abstract: Diversity and ecological distributions of amphibians in Berambai Waterfall area, East Kalimantan have never been known. The purposes of this study were to determine the diversity of amphibian species in relation to environmental conditions and the vertical-horizontal distribution. A total of 109 amphibians were captured using methods of the transect and the visual encounter survey for 20 days on two type observation habitats. The results of this study found 18 species from six amphibian families. Based on the number of species, the diversity amphibian index and dominance index have a stable of communities, with the high value of  Shannon-wiener  diversity index (H'),  the evenness  index (E), and the low value of dominance index (D) were 2.26, 0.78, and 0.16, respectively. Horizontal distribution of amphibians in their habitat showed that aquatic amphibian groups were found to be less than 5 m from the river bank, while terrestrial and semi-aquatic amphibians have a distribution of 5–15 m from the river bank. Vertical distribution of Polypedates leucomystax, Polypedates otilophus and Odorrana hosii in vegetation were found from 1.5–2.5 m above ground level, while Ansonia spinulifer, Chalcorana chalconota, Chalcorana raniceps were at a height of 0.5– 〈 1.5 m from ground level. Diversity of amphibian in Berambai Waterfall area related to habitat conditions, while horizontal and vertical distributions are influenced by species, habits and food resources.

AbstractThe control of dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF) vector in Indonesia using larvicide temephos has been ongoing for more than 30 years. Hence, it is necessary to assess the effectiveness of temephos compared to Bacillus thuringiensis var. israelensis which is a new type of biological larvacide agent against Aedes aegypti mosquito larvae. This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of temephos compared to B. thuringiensis var. israelensis against mortality of Ae. aegypti mosquito larvae sampled from three subdistricts in Samarinda namely Samarinda Utara Subdistrict Gunung Lingai, Samarinda Ulu Subdistrict Air Putih, and Sungai Kunjang Subdistrict Loa Bakung. The method used was bioassay. The results showed that temephos was not effective in killing Ae. aegypti mosquito larvae from the three subdistricts observed, with LC50.24 hours by 1.88–2.24 ppm, and LC90,24 hours by 2.07–3.59 ppm. Meanwhile, B. thuringiensis var. israelensis is still effective in killing Ae. aegypti mosquito larvae from the three subdistricts observed, with LC50.24 hours by 0.93–1.00 mL/50 L of water and LC90,24 hours by 1.05–1.11 mL/50 L of water. Those results mean that the application of B. thuringiensis var. israelensis with the recommended dosage of the government is still effective in controlling the population of Ae. aegypti.
