Abstract:
Objective: The purpose of this study is to determine Turkish validity and reliability of the Home Barriers to Eating (HBE). Methods: The study was implemented as an epidemiologic study in the province of Ankara. The study aimed to reach the families of all fourth grades in six schools (n=641). 435 parents participated in the first stage of the study and 340 parents in the second (test-retest) stage of the study which was performed three weeks later. In the study, a personal information form and data collection tools including the HBE were used. HBE has been developed abroad. HBE is a measurement instrument consisting of 18 items and two dimensions, measuring the barriers to healthy nutrition. The research utilised IBM SPSS 23 and AMOS 23. Results: Among the individuals who participated in the first stage of the study; 77.8% were female and 25.5% had low income. In the confirmatory factor analysis, some goodness of fit values were calculated. As a result of reliability analyses of the HBE; the Cronbach’s alpha value was determined as 0.65 for low-fat food barriers subdimension and 0.76 for fruit, juice, vegetable barriers subdimension. Conclusion: The HBE which was adapted into Turkish individually is a valid and reliable assessment tool. Until the validity reliability (including all stages used in scale adaptation) is re-performed or a similar scale is introduced into the literature, it is appropriate to use the HBE in our country.
