    Abstract: Ten flavonoids (1–10), including a new glycoside (nevadensin-7-sambubioside, 7), together with a phenylpropanoid glycoside (11) were isolated from Lysionotus pauciflorus. Their structures were elucidated by a combination of spectroscopic methods and comparing with literature data. Five compounds (1, 3, 4, 8, and 9) were obtained from the family Gesneriaceae for the first time. The new compound was evaluated in vitro for anticholinesterase activities against acetylcholinesterase (AChE) and butyrylcholinesterase (BChE), but was found to be inactive.

    Abstract: Pomegranate is a kind of fruit with low temperature sensitivity. Abnormal low temperature can easily lead to chilling injury, which negatively impacts the appearance of fruit, accelerates browning and deterioration, as well as seriously reduces the consumption quality and commodity value of pomegranate. This study was carried out to determine the effect of methyl jasmonate on chilling injury of pomegranate during low temperature storage. The result showed that methyl jasmonate treatment effectively maintained edible quality of pomegranate, suppressed the polyphenol oxidase activity and the development of chilling injury index, and inhibited the decline of total phenol content and the increase of malondialdehyde content and cell membrane permeability. In addition, methyl jasmonate could also enhance the disease resistance of fruit by increasing the content of soluble protein, and effectively maintain the integrity of epidermal cell structure and tissue structure. Overall, the conclusion of this paper is that methyl jasmonate can be used as an effective means to suppress chilling injury in postharvest storage of pomegranate.

    Abstract: Mastocytosis is an accumulation of clonal mast cells within tissues and it is most commonly caused by an activating mutation in the KIT gene. In this study, we report a neonatal case who presented with diffuse cutaneous mastocytosis (CM) at birth. In China, nine other cases of neonatal-onset CM have been reported in the literature since 2006. In those cases, diffuse CM and urticaria pigmentosa were the main symptoms, and mutations in exon 17 at codon 816 in KIT were identified.

    Abstract: With the extensive use of carotid artery stenting (CAS) surgeries, scholars are paying more attention to the safety and efficiency of CAS. Our study aims to analyze the clinical efficiency, safety, and technical feasibility of CAS surgery in the treatment of carotid artery stenosis. A total of 379 cases of CAS were collected and retrospectively analyzed. The outcomes were summarized according to decrease in stenosis extent, incidence of early complications after procedure, 30-day end point events, and the follow-up data. Logistic regression was employed to analyze the correlations between risk factors and complications within 30 days and 30-day end points of stroke, myocardial infarctions (MIs), and mortality. The average extent of stenosis reduced from preoperative (81% ± 17%) to postoperative (26% ± 17%). In all, 53 patients had 72 medical complications, including 6 (1.58%) cerebral hemorrhage, 7 (1.85%) cerebral infarction, 5 (1.32%) transient ischemic attack (TIA), 5 (1.32%) heart failure, 10 (2.63%) symptomatic hypertension, 21 (5.54%) symptomatic hypotension, 10 (2.63%) symptomatic bradycardia, and 8 other complications; 15 patients had at least 2 complications. Advanced age, diabetes, and heart failure were associated with the high incidence of early complications ( P 〈 .05). Asymptomatic stenosis (odds ratio [OR] = 0.39, 95% confidence interval [CI] : 0.131-1.131, P = .0426) and diabetes (OR = 3.38, 95% CI: 1.340-8.574, P = .0099) were correlated with the incidence of 30-day end point events. Diabetes and symptomatic stenosis are independent risk factors for 30-day end point events of CAS. Advanced age, hypertension, and vascular unstable plaque will increase the risk of postoperative complications.

    Abstract: Previous studies have implicated childhood trauma and abnormal brain-derived neurotrophic factor in the pathogenesis of schizophrenia. Here, we explored whether brain-derived neurotrophic factor levels mediated the relationship between childhood trauma and psychopathological symptoms in patients with first-episode schizophrenia. Methods: Patients with first-episode schizophrenia ( n = 192) and healthy controls ( n = 136) were enrolled. Childhood traumatic experiences and psychopathology were assessed by Childhood Trauma Questionnaire and Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale, respectively. Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay was used to quantify brain-derived neurotrophic factor levels. Results: The patients with first-episode schizophrenia experienced more severe childhood trauma and had lower serum brain-derived neurotrophic factor levels than healthy controls. Emotional abuse and Childhood Trauma Questionnaire total score showed positive correlation with Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale positive, general psychopathological subscore and total score. Emotional neglect showed positive correlation with Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale positive subscore. Physical neglect was positively associated with Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale negative subscore. Emotional neglect and Childhood Trauma Questionnaire total score were negatively correlated with serum brain-derived neurotrophic factor levels. The serum brain-derived neurotrophic factor levels mediated the relationship between both Childhood Trauma Questionnaire total score and Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale total score and negative symptoms in the patients. The brain-derived neurotrophic factor levels also mediated the relationship between emotional neglect and Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale total score in the patients. Conclusion: Childhood trauma might contribute to the clinical symptoms of schizophrenia by affecting brain-derived neurotrophic factor levels. Perhaps we can prevent schizophrenia by reducing childhood traumatic experiences.

    Abstract: Eight compounds (1-8), including a new flavonol glycoside (1), were isolated from Millettia pachycarpa. Their structures were elucidated based on combination of spectroscopic methods and comparing with data in literatures. Three of them (2, 6 and 8) were obtained from this genus for the first time. Meanwhile, this is also the first time compound 5 has been found from nature. Biological evaluation of all isolates against two cholinesterases (ChEs) is also described.

    Abstract: A new acorane sesquiterpene glucoside, 1 R,3 S,4 R,5 R,10 R-3,10-dihydroxyacoronene-3- O-β-D-glucoside (1), was isolated from the EtOAc-soluble partition of the ethanol extract of Lysionotus paucflorus, together with six known compounds, namely p-hydroxybenzoic acid (2), vanillic acid (3), caffeic acid (4), β-ydroxypropiosyringone (5), α,β-dihydroxypropiosyringone (6), and lyoniresinol (7). The structure of the new compound was elucidated on the basis of spectroscopic methods, including D and 2D NMR, and high-resolution MS analysis. The absolute configuration of 1 was determined from CD spectra. When evaluated against several bacterial and fungal strains, and human cancer cell lines, compound 1 and its aglycone were inactive.

    Abstract: The varying effectiveness of anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury prevention programs between soccer and basketball may be due to differences in sport-specific injury mechanisms. Bone bruise patterns may provide information regarding injury mechanisms. Purpose: To compare bone bruise and meniscal injury patterns for ACL injuries sustained in soccer versus basketball. Study Design: Cross-sectional study; Level of evidence, 3. Methods: Clinical notes, operative reports, and magnetic resonance imaging scans were reviewed for patients who sustained a noncontact ACL rupture while playing soccer or basketball between August 2016 and August 2018. The presence, location, and signal intensity of bone bruises on the tibia and femur were documented, and patterns were classified according to the location of the bone bruise in the lateral-medial direction. The meniscal and bone bruise injury patterns and the specific bone bruise locations were compared between the soccer and basketball groups. Results: Overall, 138 patients were included (56 with soccer-related and 82 with basketball-related ACL injury). No significant difference between the groups was observed in bone bruise patterns ( P = .743) or meniscal injury patterns ( P = .952). Bone bruise on the lateral side only of both the femur and the tibia was the most common pattern in both soccer (41.9%) and basketball (47.0%) groups; the most common meniscal injury type was an isolated lateral meniscal injury in both soccer (50.0%) and basketball (45.0%) groups. For patients with bone bruises on both the lateral and the medial sides of both the femur and the tibia (BF+BT), the bone bruise signal intensity on the lateral side of the femur ( P 〈 .001) and tibia ( P = .009) was significantly higher than that on the medial side for both groups. The bone bruises on the lateral side of the femur ( P 〈 .001) and tibia ( P = .002) were significantly more anterior than those on the medial side for patients with the BF+BT pattern. Conclusion: No significant differences in bone bruise location or meniscal injury type were detected when comparing ACL injuries sustained during soccer versus basketball. The study results suggest a similar biomechanical loading pattern for ACL injuries in these sports.
