Abstract: 〈 p 〉 This paper proposes a Multilevel Inverter (MLI) which focuses on two objective , minimal voltage sources and lesser switching component. The proposed Asymmetrical Cascaded Multilevel Inverter (ACMLI) is able to achieve the objective by selectively opting the voltage level of DC sources chosen and implementing the mathematical operation of addition and subtraction on the DC sources. This system also utilizes multiple carrier sinusoidal pulse width modulation technique (MCS-PWM) for operating the switches. It is found that the number of switches required for proposed modular bridge ACMLI and modified H bridge ACMLI was lesser than the traditional Cascaded H bridge Multilevel Inverter (CHB-MLI). It is also evident that the number of DC voltage sources and filter required for smoothing the output waveform is reduced compared to the traditional MLI. The Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) for the proposed circuit was simulated and analyzed in MATLAB Simulink environment and the results are found to be very less and satisfactory. The proposed circuit can find its application in integrating Renewable Energy Sources (RES) to the utility grid, Electrical Vehicle (EV) , harmonic reduction and so on. The simulation results of the proposed circuits are tabulated and compared with the traditional cascaded MLI. 〈 /p 〉

Abstract: 〈 p 〉 Unit Commitment (UC) is an optimization problem used to find out the least cost dispatch of obtainable generation resources to meet up an expected electric power demand over a certain time perspective under generational, technical and ecological constraints. In the midst of the momentous increase of non-conventional energy sources incorporation into the power system networks, effects caused by these system alterations to the UC are dynamically being studied and examined by worldwide researchers. This paper presents a literature review of application of several optimization algorithms to elucidate the UC problem in microgrids. Lastly a few basic challenges arising from the new optimization approaches in microgrids are addressed. 〈 /p 〉

Abstract: 〈 p 〉 Boost converters of high gain are used for photo voltaic systems to obtain high efficiency. These high gain Boost converters gives increased output voltage for a low input produces high outputs for low input voltage. The High gain boost converters have the following merits. Conduction losses input current ripple and stress across the switches is reduced while the efficiency is increases. The high gain of the converters with the above said merits is obtained by changing the duty cycle of switches accordingly .In this paper a boost converter working with interleaved concept along with a additional Nstage voltage Multiplier has been carried out by simulation using MATLAB/ simulink and the mathematical modeling of various parameters is also done. 〈 /p 〉

Abstract: The term microgrid refers to small-scale power grid that can operate autonomously or in concurrence with the area’s main electrical grid. The intermittent characteristic of DGs which defies the power quality and voltage manifests the requirement for new planning and operation approaches for microgrids. Consequently, conventional optimization methods in new power systems have been critically biased all through the previous decade. One of the main technological and inexpensive tools in this regard is the optimal generation scheduling of microgrid. As a primary optimization tool in the planning and operation fields, optimal operation has an undeniable part in the power system. This paper reviews and evaluates the optimal operation approaches mostly related to microgrids. In this work, the foremost optimal generation scheduling approaches are compared in terms of their objective functions, techniques and constraints. To conclude, a few fundamental challenges occurring from the latest optimal generation scheduling techniques in microgrids are addressed.

Abstract: 〈 span lang="EN-US" 〉 This paper reports a novel method for designing a miniaturized microstrip antenna with DGS based on CSRR array which operates in the frequency of 2.6GHz for low band WiMAX application. The proposed antenna is designed using ANSYS HFSS simulation software. The antenna with optimized parameters is fabricated using FR-4 substrate of thickness 1.6 mm. The simulated and measured performances of the antenna in terms of return loss, directivity and radiation patterns are presented in this work. When Complimentary Split Ring Resonators (CSRRs) array are placed on the ground plane, the resonant frequency is shifted  to a lower value and patch size is reduced .The measurements were taken and compared with the simulated results. The performance characteristics obtained from the measurements show that the proposed antenna is suited for WiMAX application at 2.6GHz. 〈 /span 〉
