    Abstract: This study empirically analysed the contagion of health using data from China Family Panel Studies. We first controlled variables related to health behaviour, medical conditions, individual characteristics, household characteristics, group characteristics, and prefecture/county characteristics and then employed multiple methods for estimation. The estimates showed that the average health level of others in the community had a significant positive effect on individual self-rated health—health was contagious. The measurement results remained robust after the endogeneity of the core explanatory variables was controlled using two-stage least squares. Furthermore, by analysing the heterogeneity of health contagion, we found that the contagion effect of health varied with the level of medical care, household affiliation, gender, rural/urban areas, and age groups. The contagion effect of health was more pronounced in the elderly population and the rural areas of the central region, where the level of medical care is relatively low, whereas it did not differ significantly between genders. Finally, the learning or imitation mechanism and social interaction mechanism of health contagion were examined.

    Abstract: The sand body structure and geochemical characteristics of braided river reservoirs are the key geological factors affecting gas production and development effects. The Sulige gas field in the Ordos Basin is an important large-scale gas-producing layer. Owing to the control of sedimentary facies, the geological structure of the sand body changes greatly and its connectivity is poor. The geological characteristics have not yet been elucidated, and this is an important problem restricting the development of the Sulige Gas Field. To solve this problem, this study focuses on the braided river reservoir of the Shihezi Formation in Block 19 of the Sulige Gas Field, conducts geological surveys in the study area, analyzes the geological and geochemical characteristics of the reservoir, and obtains samples through drilling. Through a thin-section test, gas-water two-phase experiment, and simulation test, the braided river reservoir configuration and pore and gas-water characteristics are obtained. The results show that the reservoir lithology in the study area is mainly composed of quartz sandstone, lithic sandstone, and quartzy lithic sandstone, with a porosity of 3%–13% and a permeability of (0.05–0.7) × 10 −3  m 2 . The reservoir has low porosity and low permeability. After drilling samples were obtained, 32 thin-section rock samples were selected. The pore types of the block reservoir mainly (82.9%) consisted of intragranular and intergranular dissolved pores. The difference in pore structure was mainly reflected by the size and distribution of the throat. The distribution of physical properties was 6%–10%, the gas saturation was 61%, the NMR effective porosity was 7.49%, the permeability was 4.08 × 10 2  μm 2 , and the physical properties were relatively good. In terms of the study area, the average thickness of the single braided channel in the lower section of He 8 was 4.7 m, the average width of the channel was 963 m, and the composite channel was distributed in a potato shape, parallel to the direction of the main flow. The average length of the channel was 2,147 m and the average width was 844 m. As the porosity increased, the efficiency of gas-driven water also increased, and there was a linear positive correlation between porosity and gas-driven water efficiency. With the increase in movable water saturation, the water-air ratio became larger and water production was greater. In low-amplitude structures and under low-permeability background conditions, for reservoirs with good local pore structure and physical properties, the water remaining at the bottom of the reservoir or sand body was controlled by the accumulation conditions or the weak structural differentiation after accumulation. In terms of the gas and water produced simultaneously in the study area, gas production was less than 2 × 10 4  m 3 /d and water production was relatively large at more than 10 m 3 /d; gas and water were mainly distributed in the downdip part of the main channel structure or in the island lens-shaped permeable sand bodies trapped by the surrounding tight layers. The study results provide theoretical data support for the exploration and production of the Sulige Gas Field.

    Abstract: Acupuncture is an efficacious and safe treatment choice for migraine prevention. Results from clinical trials have shown that non-specific effects play an important role in acupuncture's efficacy. To date, however, there is no evidence available quantitatively evaluating the effect of non-specific effects, such as patients' expectations and beliefs for acupuncturists, on acupuncture efficacy, necessitating further exploration. Methods A total of 156 patients with migraine without aura (MwoA) will be randomized to either junior or senior acupuncturist group, at a ratio of 1:1. The study will last 24 weeks, for each patient, comprising baseline, treatment, and follow-up phases lasting 4, 8, and 12 weeks, respectively. All patients will undergo 12 sections of acupuncture treatment delivered by either a junior or senior acupuncturist following the same acupuncture prescription and manipulation. The primary outcomes will be changes in the number of migraine days and frequency of attacks per 4 weeks cycle, relative to the baseline. Secondary outcomes will include severity of headache pain, quality of life, anxiety/depression levels, and use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) per 4 weeks cycle, compared to the baseline, as well as adverse events and rate of positive response to treatment. Prior to randomization of patients into junior or senior acupuncturist groups, the Acupuncture Expectations Evaluation Scale (AES) will be used to evaluate their expectations and belief with regards to acupuncture efficacy delivered by senior or junior acupuncturists. Discussion Results from this clinical randomized controlled trial will help to quantitatively evaluate the extent of the effect of acupuncture treatment delivered by a senior or junior acupuncturist (high relative to low expectations) in migraine patients. Ethics and Dissemination This trial has been approved by the Institutional Review Boards and Ethics Committees of Hospital of Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine (Approval No. 2020KL-058).

    Abstract: Based on subsurface mooring observations and HYCOM data, a complete investigation was conducted of the near-inertial waves (NIWs) caused by Typhoon MITAG to the east of Taiwan. HYCOM data were mainly used to reveal the role played by anticyclonic eddies in the propagation of NIWs. The results show that most typhoon-generated NIWs propagate towards negative vorticity, and NIWs near the edge gradually accumulated towards the eddy center and down to 800 m. NIWs propagating through the thermocline to the deep ocean were mainly concentrated in the eddy, and the near-inertial energy flux showed a significant enhancement from 400 to 600 m. Moreover, the downwards propagation of NIWs in the eddy enhanced the kinetic energy of background flow. NIWs outside the anticyclonic eddy dissipated quickly, while inside the eddy, there were high value areas of e-folding time. Dynamic mode decomposition illustrates that the anticyclonic eddy mainly captures higher modes of NIWs, and the state of continuous energy growth of higher modes can be maintained for more than a week. In addition, NIWs can also be carried westwards by the advection of the mean background flow at the eddy’s edge.

    Abstract: Varroa destructor is a major pathogenic driver of the Western honeybee colony losses globally. Understanding the developmental regulation of V. destructor is critical to develop effective control measures. Development is a complex biological process regulated by numerous genes and long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs); however, the underlying regulation of lncRNAs in the development of V. destructor remains unknown. In this study, we analyzed the RNA sequencing (RNA-Seq) data derived from the four stages of female V. destructor in the reproductive phase (i.e., egg, protonymph, deutonymph, and adult). The identified differentially expressed mRNAs and lncRNAs exhibited a stage-specific pattern during developmental transitions. Further functional enrichment established that fat digestion and absorption, ATP-binding cassette (ABC) transporters, mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) signaling pathway, and ubiquitin-proteasome pathway play key roles in the maturation of female V. destructor . Moreover, the lncRNAs and mRNAs of some pivotal genes were significantly upregulated at the deutonymph stage, such as cuticle protein 65/6.4/63/38 and mucin 5AC , suggesting that deutonymph is the key stage of metamorphosis development and pathogen resistance acquisition for female V. destructor . Our study provides novel insights into a foundational understanding of V. destructor biology.

    Abstract: The C-H functionalization of nitrogen-containing heterocycles has emerged as a powerful strategy for the construction of carbon-carbon (C-C) and carbon-heteroatom (C-X) bonds. In order to achieve efficient and selective C-H functionalization, electrochemical synthesis has attracted increasing attention. Because electrochemical anodic oxidation is ideal for replacing chemical reagents in C-H functionalization reactions. This mini-review summarizes the current knowledge and recent advances since 2017 in the synthetic utility of electrochemical transformations for the C-H functionalization of nitrogen-containing heterocycles.

    Abstract: Periodontium regeneration remains a significant challenge in clinics and research, and it is essential to understand the stage-specific biological process in situ. However, differing findings have been reported, and the mechanism has yet to be elucidated. The periodontium of adult mice molars is considered to be stable remodeling tissue. At the same time, the continuously growing incisors and the developing dental follicle (DF) of postnatal mice highly represent fast remodeling tissue. In this study, we attempted to explore different clues of temporal and spatial comparisons to provide improved references for periodontal regeneration. Methods Periodontal tissues from the developing periodontium (DeP) of postnatal mice, and continuously growing periodontium (CgP) and stable remodeling periodontium (ReP) of adult mice were isolated and compared using RNA sequencing. Based on the Dep and CgP separately compared with the ReP, differentially expressed genes and signaling pathways were analyzed using GO, KEGG databases, and Ingenuity Pathway Analysis (IPA). The results and validation were obtained by immunofluorescence staining and RT-PCR assays. Data were expressed as means ± standard deviation (SD) and analyzed by GraphPad Prism 8 software package, and one-way ANOVA was used to test multiple groups. Results Principal component analysis showed that the three groups of periodontal tissue were successfully isolated and had distinct expression profiles. A total of 792 and 612 DEGs were identified in the DeP and CgP groups compared with the ReP. Upregulated DEGs in the DeP were closely related to developmental processes, while the CgP showed significantly enhanced cellular energy metabolism. The DeP and CgP showed a common downregulation of the immune response, with activation, migration, and recruitment of immune cells. IPA and further validation jointly suggested that the MyD88/p38 MAPK pathway played an essential regulatory role in periodontium remodeling. Conclusion Tissue development, energy metabolism, and immune response were critical regulatory processes during periodontal remodeling. Developmental and adult stages of periodontal remodeling showed different expression patterns. These results contribute to a deeper understanding of periodontal development and remodeling and may provide references for periodontal regeneration.

    Abstract: Exploring the intrinsic relationship between digital technology and the efficiency of food safety supervision contributes to a better understanding of the role of digital technology in food safety supervision and how to maximize its influence. This study employed sample data from 31 regions in China between 2015 and 2017 for an empirical analysis of the correlation between the two and to examine the moderating effects of the knowledge levels of food producers and consumers. The results show that the development of digital technology contributes to enhancing the efficiency of food safety supervision. In this process, the higher the knowledge level of consumers, the greater the positive promotional effect of digital technology. On the contrary, when the knowledge level of producers is higher, it is not conducive to enhancing the effect of digital technology on the efficiency of food safety supervision. The author holds the view that this is related to the fact that employees in the food production and manufacturing industry have insufficient moral and legal knowledge. This not only limits the effect of digital technology on enhancing the efficiency of food safety supervision, but also opens the door to illegal production for some unprincipled producers. The policy implications are that digital technology should be used to improve food safety supervision, the moral and legal knowledge of food producers should be improved, and consumers should be encouraged to use digital technology more in the pursuit of food safety. Implications for national healthcare system would be also discussed in our paper.

    Abstract: Cerebral small vessel disease (CSVD) is a common neurodegenerative condition in the elderly, closely associated with cognitive impairment. Early identification of individuals with CSVD who are at a higher risk of developing cognitive impairment is crucial for timely intervention and improving patient outcomes. Objective The aim of this study is to construct a predictive model utilizing LASSO regression and binary logistic regression, with the objective of precisely forecasting the risk of cognitive impairment in patients with CSVD. Methods The study utilized LASSO regression for feature selection and logistic regression for model construction in a cohort of CSVD patients. The model’s validity was assessed through calibration curves and decision curve analysis (DCA). Results A nomogram was developed to predict cognitive impairment, incorporating hypertension, CSVD burden, apolipoprotein A1 (ApoA1) levels, and age. The model exhibited high accuracy with AUC values of 0.866 and 0.852 for the training and validation sets, respectively. Calibration curves confirmed the model’s reliability, and DCA highlighted its clinical utility. The model’s sensitivity and specificity were 75.3 and 79.7% for the training set, and 76.9 and 74.0% for the validation set. Conclusion This study successfully demonstrates the application of machine learning in developing a reliable predictive model for cognitive impairment in CSVD. The model’s high accuracy and robust predictive capability provide a crucial tool for the early detection and intervention of cognitive impairment in patients with CSVD, potentially improving outcomes for this specific condition.
