Abstract: Background: Femoral head fractures are rare injuries with or without traumatic dislocations. The management of these fractures is crucial to prevent the development of severe complications and to achieve optimal functional outcomes. Wide treatment options for Pipkin 1 femoral head fractures range from fragment excision, fixation following open reduction with internal fixation, or conservative treatment such as close reduction alone after fracture dislocation. However, the best decision making remains controversial not only due to lack of large trials, but also inconsistent results reported. Therefore, we aim to compare the operative with nonoperative outcomes of Pipkin type 1 patients. Patients and Methods: We systemically searched MEDLINE, EMBASE, Cochrane library, In-Process & Other Non-Indexed Citations to identify studies assessing outcomes of Pipkin type 1 patients after conservative treatment, and open reduction with excision or fixation. Data on comparison of clinical outcomes of each management were extracted including arthritis, heterotopic ossification (HO), avascular necrosis (AVN), and functional scores (Thompson Epstein, Merle’ d Augine and Postel Score). We performed a meta-analysis with the available data. Results: Eight studies (7 case series and 1 RCT) were included in this study. In a pooled analysis, the overall rate of arthritis was 37% (95% CI, 2–79%), HO was 20% (95% CI, 2–45%), and AVN was 3% (95% CI, 0–16%). In comparison of management types, the excision group reached the best functional outcomes including Thompson Epstein Score (poor to worse, 9%; 95% CI, 0–27%) and Merle d’ Aubigne and Postel Score (poor to worse, 18%; 95% CI, 3–38%); ORIF group had the highest AVN rate (11%; 95% CI, 0–92%); conservative treatment had the highest arthritis rate (67%; 95% CI: 0–100%) and lowest HO rate (2%; 95% CI, 0–28%). Discussion: This meta-analysis demonstrates that different procedures lead to various clinical outcomes: fragment excision may achieve better function, conservative treatment may result in a higher arthritis rate, while ORIFs may have a higher AVN rate. These findings may assist surgeons in tailoring their decision-making to specific patient profiles. Future RCTs with multicenter efforts are needed to validate associations found in this study. Level of Evidence: II, systematic review and meta-analysis.

Abstract: Diagnosing shoulder tumors is a challenge because the joint is very complex, and a static examination can misdiagnose some tumors. However, we found that a pseudoaneurysm provides a differential diagnosis of a tumor, and to that end, we present a case that mimics shoulder infection. The patient was an 80-year-old female who had a history of coronary artery disease and end-stage renal disease under regular hemodialysis and complained of right shoulder swelling and progression. A magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scan revealed an abscess, inflammatory pseudotumor (IPT), and osteomyelitis of the humerus. Computed tomography (CT)-guided pigtail drainage was performed twice without significant improvement. An angiogram revealed a right shoulder pseudoaneurysm fed by the acromial branch of the thoracoacromial artery. After endovascular coiling, the patient was discharged and outpatient follow-up was arranged. If aspiration of the abscess leads to only mild improvement in shoulder swelling, further evaluation should be arranged. An angiogram examination is a good method for diagnosing and designing operations, and endovascular treatment is good for preventing injury to the muscle, tendon, nerve, or blood vessels.

Abstract: This paper is concerned with the airborne-laser-data-based sag estimation for wide-area transmission lines. A systematic data processing framework is established for multi-source data collected from power lines, which is applicable to various operating conditions. Subsequently, a k-means-based clustering approach is employed to handle the spatial heterogeneity and sparsity of powerline corridor data after comprehensive performance comparisons. Furthermore, a hybrid model of the catenary and XGBoost (HMCX) method is proposed for sag estimation, which improves the accuracy of sag estimation by integrating the adaptability of catenary and the sparsity awareness of XGBoost. Finally, the effectiveness of HMCX is verified by using power data from 116 actual lines.

Abstract: For the position control of a planar 3-linkage underactuated manipulator (PTUM) with a passive first linkage, a continuous control strategy is developed in this paper. In particular, a broad neural network (BNN)-based model is first established to accurately describe the motion coupling relationship between the passive linkage and the second linkage. Based on this model, by using the particle swarm optimization algorithm, the target angles of all linkages are calculated combining the start states of all linkages and the target position of the PTUM. Then, the target angles of the active linkages are directly achieved by their respective actuators, and that of the passive linkage is also achieved by the rotation of the second linkage. By carrying out several experiments, the effectiveness of the above strategy is verified.

Abstract: With the aim of addressing the problem of the trajectory tracking control of quadrotor unmanned aircraft robots (UARs), in this study, we developed a neural network and event-triggering mechanism-based adaptive control scheme for a quadrotor UAR control system. The main technologies included this scheme are as follows. (1) Under the condition that only the quadrotor’s position information can be obtained, a modified high-gain state observer-based adaptive dynamic surface control (DSC) method was applied and the tracking control of quadrotor UARs was acquired. (2) An event-triggered mechanism for UARs was designed, in which the energy consumption was greatly reduced and the communication efficiency between the system and the control terminal was improved. (3) By selecting appropriate parameters, appropriate initial conditions for the adaptive laws, and establishing a high-gain state observer, a tracking performance of L∞ could be achieved. Finally, simulation results of the hardware-in-loop strategy are presented. The control method we propose here outperformed the traditional backstepping sliding mode control (BSMC) scheme.
