Abstract: The objective of the study is to cover the pharmacognostical and preliminary phytochemical screening of traditional medicinal plant, Kedrostis foetidissima belonging to the family Cucurbitaceae. This study includes organoleptic characters, physico-chemical analysis, fluorescence analysis, behaviour of leaf powder with different chemical reagents, phytochemical extraction, extractive yield and qualitative phytochemical screening. The preliminary screening revealed the presence of alkaloids, flavonoids, steroids, tannins, phenolics, glycosides, carbohydrates, proteins and aminoacids which explains that the plant must have valuable medicinal properties and so it can be explored

Abstract: The present study was aimed at documenting species composition, utilization and conservation of plant species growing in home gardens of 10 residential areas of Coimbatore city, India. Household interviews and home garden surveys revealed that all the 109 plant species included in 60 families included have someeconomic uses or with ornamental significance. Higher number of species was herbs followed by shrubs, trees, climbers, succulent herbs, vines and sub-shrubs. The families viz., Asteraceae, Apocynaceae and Acanthaceae contributed higher number of plant species than the other families to the home gardens. Thespecies namely, Celosia cristata, Chrysanthemum odoratum and Ocimum basilicum have registered 50% frequency among the home gardens sampled which indicates that these species have distributed and maintained in comparatively higher number of home gardens. The home garden species are mainly under thecategories of vegetables, fruits, ornamentals, economic important species and medicinal. These results further report revealed that homegardens satisfy various household needs like food, ornamentals, medicines, building material, religious and ceremonial uses.

Abstract: The study was aimed to explore the nutritional status of 5 indigenous edible fruits viz., Ziziphus jujuba, Limonia acidissima, Ziziphus oenoplia, Phyllanthus emblica and Ficus racemosa along with their phytochemical profile. Phosphorous content was determined using indophenol blue method; K, Ca, Mg, Fe and Zn contents were determined using atomic absorption spectrophotometer. Qualitative and quantitative estimations were carried out using standard procedures. In the present study, all the investigated samples presented substantial amount of P, Ca, Mg, Fe and Zn content. The qualitative analysis revealed the presencealkaloids, phenols and flavonoids in all the five investigated samples. However, tannins were detected only in Limonia acidissima and Ficus recemosa; whereas steroids were absent in Limonia acidissima and Phyllanthus emblica. The quantitative analysis also exhibited appreciable amount of phenolic (47 to 85 mg GAE/g sample) and flavonoid contents (12 to 61 mg RE/g sample). Thus the study confirmes that wild edible fruits investigated are a promising source of essential nutrients such as P, K, Ca, Zn, Mg and Fe. Phytochemical study also confirmed the presence of the adequate quantities of secondary metabolites of medicinal importance thus exemplifies therapeutic values.

Abstract: With the tremendous growth in wireless technology there has been a shortage in the spectrum utilized for certain applications while some spectrum remains idle. To overcome this problem and for the efficient utilization of the spectrum cognitive radio is the suitable solution.Multiband OFDM can be easily modeled as cognitive radio, a technology that is employed for utilizing the available spectrum in the most efficient way. Since sensing of the free spectrum for detecting the arrival of the primary users is the foremost job of cognitive, here cyclostationary based spectrum sensing is carried out. Its performance is investigated using universal software defined radio peripheral (USRP) kit which is the hardware test bed for the cognitive radio system. Results are shown using Labview software. Further to mitigate the interference between the primary and cognitive users a modified intrusion elimination (AIC) algorithm had been proposed which in turn ensures the coexistence of both the users in the same wireless environment.

Abstract: The aim of this work was to determine antioxidant activity in various parts of different extracts of Euphorbia routhiana Spreng. In Indian system of medicine the plant is used as an antifungal. Antioxidant activities were determined by ABTS•+ assay in leaf, stem and root extract of Euphorbia routhiana. ABTS•+ method, all the sample extracts of were able to quench ABTS•+ radical more efficiently with their TEAC values ranging between 187.2 to 6089.2 µmol Trolox equivalent/g extract. In this context, ethanol of E. rothiana root were found to be fast and potent scavengers of ABTS•+ radicals, as they were able to quench ABTS•+ radicals more readily than the other solvent extracts. Therefore the present study reveals that the study species has a reliable source of bioactive compounds which were highly correlated to their therapeutic properties and thus confirm the traditional medicinal usage of the plant practiced by the traditional healers.

Abstract: Of the creatures in the world, man is the only one who thinks about what benefits him from what he does and does not think about the harm that will befall others. Literature was created by scholars to refute such an idea. In these exceptions, the Akam and Puram are divided and give us the golden life of the Sangam age. The Sangam poets who created these poems have shown their own lives as a life of noble pride. As a result of this life, in their works, they have highlighted in the literature the values of life such as effortfulness, helpfulness, selflessness, and love for life. Moreover, the Sangam literature is also a source of evidence and message for those who wish to know about the ancient Tamil civilization, linguistic excellence, cultural culture, etc. The Sangam literature is classified into Pathuppaattu and Ettutthokai. Literature, which describes the way human beings lived, can also show the way in which they should live. What is recorded in the Purananuru is not merely battlefield news. In Puram (external) thinking, the root of ethical thinking can be found to be concentrated. On the surface, which is regarded as generic, the ideas of life form the basis of morality. That is to say, society is a union of individuals. The virtues performed by individuals create the betterment of society. The morals practiced by the people in society are the morals of the society. Individual morality can be found in the Akam (family) sense and social morality in the Puram (external) sense. The ancient Tamils were heroic and virtuous. On the whole, it can be seen that purananuru is a treasure trove of history that highlights the heroic lives of the Sangam Tamils. This article highlights the ways of life of the heroic people in the Purananooru, such as war messages, life values, royal traditions, etc.
