Description: Micron-sized gold plates were prepared by reducing chloroauric acid with lemongrass extract. Their two-photon luminescence (TPL) and second harmonic generation (SHG) were investigated. The results show that the TPL and SHG intensity of gold plates is dependent on the wavelength and polarization of excitation laser. The TPL intensity of gold plates decreases with the increase of the excitation wavelength except for a small peak around 820–840 nm, while SHG intensity increases with the excitation wavelength redshift. In addition, it is found that the TPL intensity of the gold plate’s edge is related with the angle between the edge orientation and the polarization direction of the excitation light. The TPL intensity increases with the angle increase from 0° to 90°.

Description: In this paper, an adaptive collaborative Gaussian Mixture Probability Hypothesis Density (ACo-GMPHD) filter is proposed for multi-target tracking with automatic track extraction. Based on the evolutionary difference between the persistent targets and the birth targets, the measurements are adaptively partitioned into two parts, persistent and birth measurement sets, for updating the persistent and birth target Probability Hypothesis Density, respectively. Furthermore, the collaboration mechanism of multiple probability hypothesis density (PHDs) is established, where tracks can be automatically extracted. Simulation results reveal that the proposed filter yields considerable computational savings in processing requirements and significant improvement in tracking accuracy.

Description: Sensors, Vol. 18, Pages 2591: A Framework of Joint Energy Provisioning and Manufacturing Scheduling in Smart Industrial Wireless Rechargeable Sensor Networks Sensors doi: 10.3390/s18082591 Authors: Yixiong Feng Yong Wang Hao Zheng Shanghua Mi Jianrong Tan Energy provisioning is always a crucial problem restricting the further development and application of smart industrial wireless sensor networks in smart factories. In this paper, we present that it is necessary to develop smart industrial wireless rechargeable sensor networks (SIWRSNs) in a smart factory environment. Based on the complexity and time-effectiveness of factory operations, we establish a joint optimization framework named J-EPMS to effectively coordinate the charging strategies of wireless sensors and the scheduling plans of machines running. Then, we propose a novel double chains quantum genetic algorithm with Taboo search (DCQGA-TS) for J-EPMS to obtain a suboptimal solution. The simulation results demonstrate that the DCQGA-TS algorithm can maximally ensure the continuous manufacturing and markedly shorten the total completion time of all production tasks.

Description: In order to explore the thermal kinetics of nano Al-micro MnO 2 thermite system, the Al/MnO 2 thermite sample was mixed by the ultrasonic dispersion method. On the basis of the study of thermal decomposition of MnO 2 powder, the thermal performance of the sample was study by simultaneous thermal analysis technique at the temperature range from room temperature to 1000°C, which could found the thermite reaction occurred in 650-660°C before the melting of Al, which belongs to solid state reactions with the 350 J/g heat releasing. Besides, the microstructure changes of the thermite during reaction were observed by field emission scanning electron microscope (FE-SEM). Based on the TG-DSC test with multiple heating rates and using of the activation energy calculated by Kissniger method, it could be proved the sample had good stability and safety performance.

Description: To explore the reaction characteristics and mechanism of Al/MnO 2 thermite, selecting the high purity micron grade Al and MnO 2 powder, the Al/MnO 2 thermite sample was mixed by the ultrasonic dispersion method. On the basis of the study of thermal decomposition of MnO 2 powder, the thermal performance of the sample was study by simultaneous thermal analysis technique at the temperature range from room temperature to 900°C, and the reaction products were analyzed by X-ray diffraction (XRD). The microstructure changes of the thermite during reaction were observed by field emission scanning electron microscope (FE-SEM). The results showed that the MnO 2 has two processes of thermal decomposition during the temperature rising, and the reaction products were Mn 2 O 3 and Mn 3 O 4 , and the onset temperature were 498.3°C and 781.5°C, the heat release were - 197.1J/g and -57.4 J/g, respectively. Description: Sensors, Vol. 18, Pages 50: UV-Enhanced Ethanol Sensing Properties of RF Magnetron-Sputtered ZnO Film Sensors doi: 10.3390/s18010050 Authors: Jinyu Huang Yu Du Quan Wang Hao Zhang Youfu Geng Xuejin Li Xiaoqing Tian ZnO film was deposited by the magnetron sputtering method. The thickness of ZnO film is approximately 2 μm. The influence of UV light illumination on C2H5OH sensing properties of ZnO film was investigated. Gas sensing results revealed that the UV-illuminated ZnO film displays excellent C2H5OH characteristics in terms of high sensitivity, excellent selectivity, rapid response/recovery, and low detection limit down to 0.1 ppm. The excellent sensing performance of the sensor with UV activation could be attributed to the photocatalytic oxidation of ethanol on the surface of the ZnO film, the planar film structure with high utilizing efficiency of UV light, high electron mobility, and a good surface/volume ratio of of ZnO film with a relatively rough and porous surface.

Description: In the electromechanical impedance (EMI) method, the PZT patch performs the functions of both sensor and exciter. Due to the high frequency actuation and non-model based characteristics, the EMI method can be utilized to detect incipient structural damage. In recent years EMI techniques have been widely applied to monitor the health status of concrete and steel materials, however, studies on application to timber are limited. This paper will explore the feasibility of using the EMI technique for damage detection in timber specimens. In addition, the conventional damage index, namely root mean square deviation (RMSD) is employed to evaluate the level of damage. On that basis, a new damage index, Mahalanobis distance based on RMSD, is proposed to evaluate the damage severity of timber specimens. Experimental studies are implemented to detect notch and hole damage in the timber specimens. Experimental results verify the availability and robustness of the proposed damage index and its superiority over the RMSD indexes.

Description: The parametric design macro programs of two basic types of single-layer hemi-ellipsoidal latticed shell are developed by using APDL (Ansys Parametric Design Language) parameterized design language. The parametric design of single-layer hemi-ellipsoidal latticed shell structures can be built under the condition of giving the macroscopic geometric parameters such as specifical parameter t, parameter k, span S1, span S2, rise f, valley number Kn, radial node number Nx etc. Ansys software is applied to study comparison of characteristics of the Kewitte type net shell structure of different vector height f, radial node number Nx and boundary constraints. The results show that modeling design of hemi-ellipsoidal latticed shell can be built conveniently and quickly by the application of parametric design of macro program. The three-way grid type is more reasonable force performance, and it’s mechanical performance is better when the span ratio is 1/2. Thus it is suggested to give prior...

Description: Sensors, Vol. 18, Pages 2347: Research and Fabrication of High-Frequency Broadband and Omnidirectional Transmitting Transducer Sensors doi: 10.3390/s18072347 Authors: Shaohua Hao Hongwei Wang Chao Zhong Likun Wang Hao Zhang A wide-band cylindrical transducer was developed by using the wide band of the composite material and the matched matching layer for multimode coupling. Firstly, the structure size of the transducer’s sensitive component was designed by using ANSYS simulation software. Secondly, the piezoelectric composite ring-shaped sensitive component was fabricated by the piezoelectric composite curved-surface forming process, and the matching layer was coated on the periphery of the ring-shaped piezoelectric composite material. Finally, it was encapsulated and the electrodes were drawn out to make a high-frequency broadband horizontal omnidirectional water acoustic transducer prototype. After testing, the working frequency range of the transducer was 230–380 kHz, and the maximum transmission voltage response was 168 dB in the water.
