Abstract: Abstract Introduction: Surgical pathologies account fo r 28-32% of the global disease burden, however human resource in surgery (surgical workforce) is still not good enough. The study aimed to describe the current situation and the need of specialist surgeons for working in provincial and district hospitals by representation of ecological regions (ecoregions). Patients and methods: A cross-sectional study has conducted in 7 provinces/cities with 27 hospitals. Results: The current number of surgeons was mostly distributed for the Coastal and Southern Central regions accounted for 23.3%; in Red River Delta was 22.3%. The need for surgeons for the Central Coast and South-Central region (30.6%) was the highest, but its lowest in the Central Highlands region for 2025. The distribution of surgical workforce according to the hospital classification categories showed that the surgeons commonly work in provincial level (81.1%). The need for surgeons for provincial hospitals was the highest as 78.4%. Conclusion: The distribution of surgical workforce was unbalanced among ecoregions, especially there was a shortage of specialist surgeons such as neurosurgeons, cardiovascular and pediatric surgeons. It is recommended to support in-depth training in professional knowledge and skills and prioritize short-term, more practical types. Abstract: Introduction: Polycystic ovary syndrome (STD) is a common endocrine and metabolic disorder that affects significantly the general health of 6-18% of women. Data on metabolic disorders in PCOS is so far still limited and lack of uniformity in terms of race, geographic location, human-origin, age, sample size or lifestyle. Methodology: A cross-sectional description of 759 cases of reproductive-age women who were diagnosed with PCOS by Rotterdam criteria (391) and non-PCOS (368) visited 3 ART centers in central Vietnam including Hue University Hospital, Hue Central Hospital and Danang Hospital for Women and Children, from June 2016 to June 2017. Inclusion criteria to the control group consisted of infertile women without PCOS, regular menstrual cycle, no ovarian disease (ovary cyst/tumor or endometriosis), without history of ovarian surgery or determined ovarian failure. Clinical characteristics and basic hormonal profile, AMH, lipidemia variables, fasting blood glucose and glucose tolerance testing were performed to evaluate endocrine and metabolic status. Input and process data using SPSS 19.0 software. Results: The PCOS group had a 1.2-fold increase in overweight BMI (RR=1.20 with 95%CI: 1.02-1.42). The mean of waist circumference and waist / hip ratio was higher than that of control group. Lipidemia dysfunction was observed in 176 cases of PCOS (45%), of which total cholesterol abnormalities accounted for 21.0%, triglycerides 21.5%, LDL-C 25.6% and decreased HDL in 7.9%. Glycemia disturbances occurred in 119 cases (accounting for 30.4%) with abnormal blood glucose 16.4% and abnormal glucose tolerance test after 2 hours was 25.0%. Considering the metabolic factors, 68.8% of PCOS cases have at least one disorder. There is a correlation between metabolic disorders and clinical and endocrine factors: increased WHR with age, body mass index, AMH and prolactin; Total cholesterol associated with BMI and prolactin; Triglycerides related to age; HDL-C decrease is associated with BMI, LH and FSH; Hyperglycemia is associated with BMI. Conclusions: Endocrine disorders and especially metabolic syndrome are common in the infertile patients with PCOS in Central Vietnam. Appropriate screening strategy, early detection and timely intervention are needed to prevent systemic complications related to metabolic disorders. Key words: polycystic ovary syndrome, endocrine disorders, metabolic disorders

Abstract: Background: Common bile duct (CBD) stone is the disease which leads to more severe complications than other cholelithiasis. The last 30 years have seen major developments in the management of CBD stone disease. Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) has become a widely available and routine procedure. The effect of this therapy is affected by patient’s condition, number, size and site of CBD stone… Aim: To evaluate the results and complications of ERCP in common bile duct (CBD) stones. Patients/Methods: Between 9/2010 and 12/2013, 42 CBD stone patients were included. According to the protocol, we treated, followed up and assessed the success rate, complication rate of ERCP combine with oddi sphincterotomy or papillary ballon dilation. Results: The successful rate of biliary stone removal was 95.2%. The rate of complication was 9.5%. Pancreatitis is common complications (7.1%). Conclusion: ERCP combine with oddi sphincterotomy or papillary ballon dilation is an effective and relatively safe therapy for CBD stones. Keywords: common bile duct stone, ERCP, Biliary sphincterotomy.

Abstract Introduction: To evaluate the sexual function of patients treated with Posterior Lumbar Interbody Fusion Surgery by using the Sexual Dysfunction Questionnaire. Subjects and methods: 60 patients with lumbosacral spondylolisthesis had Posterior Lumbar Interbody Fusion Surgery (PLIF) from 9/2020 - 5/2021 at Hue University Hospital. Results: 48.33% of patients have sexual disorder due to lumbar spondylolisthesis (with SDQ 〉 49 points). There was a correlation between L3-L4 spondylolisthesis and job status (out of work) and sexual disorder status (p = 0.029 and p = 0.03). Surgery was associated with a significant improvement in the patient's pain symptoms with a VAS score after 1 month of treatment (p = 0.001), but no significant improvement in the sex life was observed (p = 0.988). There was a relationship between the Item 8 of ODI and the symptom of sexual dysfunction in patients with lumbar spondylolisthesis at the cut-off of 3 points. Conclusion: lumbosacral spondylolisthesis Surgery offers a significant improvement in pain symptoms but does not significant improvement in symptoms of sexual dysfunction. L3-L4 spondylolisthesis, out of work, and Item 8 of ODI 〉 3 points are risk factors for sexual dysfunction. Keywords: Sexual dysfunction, SDQ, Item 8 of ODI, spondylolisthesis, VAS.
