    Abstract: We investigated the “BURP” maneuver’s effect on the association between difficult laryngoscopy and difficult intubation, and predictors of a difficult airway. Methods Adult patients who underwent general anesthesia and tracheal intubation from September 2016 to May 2018 were included. The “BURP” maneuver was performed when glottic exposure was classified as Cormack–Lehane grade 3 or 4, suggesting difficult laryngoscopy. The thyromental distance, modified Mallampati score, and interincisor distance were assessed before anesthesia. Results Among this study’s 2028 patients, the “BURP” maneuver decreased difficult laryngoscopies from 428 (21.1%) to 124 (6.1%) cases and increased the difficult intubation to difficult laryngoscopy ratio from 53/428 (12.4%) to 52/124 (41.9%). For laryngoscopies classified as difficult without the “BURP” maneuver, the area under the curve (AUC) of the thyromental distance, modified Mallampati score, and interincisor distance was 0.60, 0.57, and 0.66, respectively. In difficult laryngoscopies using the “BURP” maneuver, the AUC of the thyromental distance, modified Mallampati score, and interincisor distance was 0.71, 0.67, and 0.76, respectively. Conclusions The “BURP” maneuver improves the laryngoscopic view and assists in difficult laryngoscopies. Compared with difficult laryngoscopies without the “BURP” maneuver, those with the “BURP” maneuver are more closely associated with difficult intubations and are more predictable.     Abstract: We report a biomimetic mineralization of hydroxyapatite induced by poly-dopamine-functionalized reduced graphene oxide (RGO-PDA). Graphene oxide was first simultaneously reduced and surface functionalized by one-step oxidative polymerization of dopamine. The resultant RGO-PDA was further used as a bioinspired surface to mimic the mineralization of hydroxyapatite during bone formation. MC3T3-E1 cells were cultured on the RGO-PDA substrates to observe various cellular activities and hydroxyapatite mineralization. The MC3T3-E1 cells on RGO-PDA substrates show higher cellular activities such as proliferation, adhesion, and osteogenic differentiation over the bare glass and graphene oxide substrates. Those results suggest the potentials of using RGO-PDA as osteogenesis-promoting scaffolds for successful applications in bone tissue regeneration.

    Abstract: One new 5α,8α-epidioxysterol, 3-acetylaxinysterol (1), along with one known sterol, axinysterol (2), were isolated from a Formosan sponge, Axinyssa sp.. The structures of the compounds were determined by spectroscopic methods and the absolute configuration of 2 was further confirmed by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis for the first time. Compound 2 exhibited significant cytotoxicity against K562 and Molt 4 cancer cell lines.

    Abstract: In a selected response test, aberrant responses such as careless errors and lucky guesses might cause error in ability estimation because these responses do not actually reflect the knowledge that examinees possess. In a computerized adaptive test (CAT), these aberrant responses could further cause serious estimation error due to dynamic item administration. To enhance the robust performance of CAT against aberrant responses, Barton and Lord proposed the four-parameter logistic (4PL) item response theory (IRT) model. However, most studies relevant to the 4PL IRT model were conducted based on simulation experiments. This study attempts to investigate the performance of the 4PL IRT model as a slip-correction mechanism with an empirical experiment. The results showed that the 4PL IRT model could not only reduce the problematic underestimation of the examinees’ ability introduced by careless mistakes in practical situations but also improve measurement efficiency.

    Abstract: This study explores team-level mechanisms linking team regulatory focus and team creativity. Drawing on the team self-regulation perspective and regulatory fit theory, the mediating roles of team exploratory and exploitative learning and the moderating effect of team bureaucracy were examined. Team-level analyses conducted on data captured from the leaders and members of 135 teams. The results showed that team exploratory learning mediates the relationship between team promotion focus and team radical creativity, whereas team exploitative learning mediates the relationship between team prevention focus and incremental creativity. Furthermore, the team bureaucratic context, including centralization and formalization, moderated the indirect relationship between team regulatory focus and team creativity. The findings improve understanding of why team regulatory focus differentially contributes to team radical and incremental creativity. The findings also provide meaningful insight into the role of team bureaucracy in the team regulatory focus–team creativity relationship.

    Abstract: Limit dome height test is commonly used for evaluating the formability of sheet material. Through altering the geometry of specimens, different strain paths could be obtained to establish forming limit diagram of the material. By incorporating finite element analysis with ductile energy criteria, engineers can also predict the formability of material. The forming limit diagram or constants in ductile energy criteria are usually determined by experiments with linear strain path. However, the predictions may lose their accuracy when evaluating products with complex strain paths, which is commonly seen in sheet forming processes. Therefore, a better method for evaluating formability of material under complex strain path should be developed. In this study, novel specimen designs for limit dome height test are applied to generate different strain paths with two-step strain effect on the specimens. Different geometric parameters of the novel specimen design can alter the slope of strain paths and create different strain paths similar to the two-step deformation conditions occurred in actual sheet forming processes. Three different two-step strain path conditions are created experimentally, and the changes in strain path are verified with simulations. From the results, the predictions of forming limit based on linear strain path forming limit diagram could be overestimated or underestimated under two-step strain path conditions. Thus, the formability of material under two-step strain path conditions can be determined by corresponding experiments using novel specimen designs, instead of predictions made by linear strain path conditions.

    Abstract: Cartilage damage is frequent in various joint diseases, mainly manifested by the loss of type II collagen and the degradation of proteoglycans. Diclofenac sodium is a commonly used drug for the treatment of joint diseases, but simple administration is often affected by drug clearance and rapid metabolism. Intra-articular drug delivery is an effective method for local enrichment of high concentration of drugs. However, due to the short half-life of diclofenac sodium, prolonging the stability and duration of the drug can alleviate the disadvantages of direct intra-articular application. Nanospheres for delivering drugs to treat joint diseases could be a remedy for cartilage damage. In addition, excessive production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) by macrophages activated in damaged cartilage would aggravate cartilage damage. Therefore, this study intends to use poly lactic-co-glycolic acid nanospheres to load and deliver diclofenac sodium to inhibit chondrocyte death while regulating the generation of ROS, thereby promoting the treatment of cartilage damage.

    Abstract: Limited research has explored the potential explanatory mechanisms for the link between abusive leadership and non-negative employee-based behaviors in the effectiveness of organizational management. Based on affective response theory to construct a theoretical model, this study enhances the mapping of how employee-perceived abusive leadership triggers employee affective responses and influences their political behaviors to facilitate task-related goals. It also investigates how the moderating effects of employee-perceived leader's narcissistic personality interact with the variables of the main effects. This study was implemented in Taiwan's financial and insurance institutions. Using a sampling framework via a market survey agency, participants completed three online surveys within a 3-week period. 350 employed participants registered for the study. Based on the findings, we suggest that managers in a hierarchical organization may be able to intentionally vary their leadership style to arouse employees' negative emotions without hindering, and perhaps even improving, employees' motivation to achieve their task aims. When leaders demonstrate their self-confidence in the workplace, employees perceive less anxiety at work and less need to adopt workplace political behaviors to solve work troubles. This research suggests managers should recognize employee-perceived abusive leadership as an influential factor that contributes to illuminating the processes underlying workplace perception-to-behavior and leader–member interactive links, as well as the boundary conditions of mediating and moderating these processes.

    Abstract: To evaluate the feasibility and accuracy of three-dimensional (3D)-printed individualised guiding templates in total hip arthroplasty (THA) for the treatment of developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH). Methods: 12 hips in 12 patients with Crowe type IV DDH were treated with THA. A 3D digital model of the pelvis and lower limbs was reconstructed using the computed tomography data of the patients. Preoperative surgical simulations were performed to determine the most suitable surgical planning, including femoral osteotomy and prosthesis placement. Based on the ideal surgical planning, individualised guiding templates were designed by software, manufactured using a 3D printer, and used in acetabulum reconstruction and femoral osteotomy during surgery. Results: 12 patients were followed up for an average of 72.42 months (range 38–135 months). During surgery, the guiding template for each case was matched to the bony markers of the acetabulum and proximal femur. Preoperative and follow-up Harris Hip Scores were 34.2 ± 3.7 and 85.2 ± 4.2; leg-length discrepancy, 51.5 ± 6.5 mm and 10.2 ± 1.5 mm; and visual analogue scale scores, 6.2 ± 0.8 and 1.3 ± 0.3, respectively, with statistical difference. Shortened deformity and claudication of the affected limb were obviously improved after surgery. However, 1 patient had artificial hip dislocation 2 weeks after surgery, and another patient had sciatic nerve traction injury, both of whom recovered after physical treatment. Conclusions: Preoperative surgical simulation and 3D-printed individualised guiding templates can fulfil surgeon-specific requirements for the treatment of Crowe type IV DDH. Accurate THA can be achieved using 3D-printed individualised templates, which provide a new personalised surgical plan for the precise positioning and orientation of acetabular reconstruction and femoral osteotomy.
