Abstract: Traditionally, doctoral students in Germany have been trained under the individual guidance of their advisors. Because of recent developments, doctoral students, especially psychology students, are now being trained within organized research groups, including broad national doctoral programs, the Graduiertenkollegs. The present article documents these changes and provides some statistical data.
