    Abstract: To examine the effect of Tai Chi on cardiopulmonary function and quality of life in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Data sources: Cochrane Library, PUBMED, EMBASE, China Biology Medicine disc, China National Knowledge Infrastructure, and Wanfang database. Methods: Articles on randomized controlled trials comparing Tai Chi with other treatments or no treatment were identified. A random-effects model was used to calculate the pooled mean difference (MD) with 95% confidence interval (CI). Results: Fifteen articles involving 1354 participants were included. Compared with the control group, Tai Chi was more effective in improving exercise capacity on 6-minute walking distance (short term: MD = 16.02, 95% CI 2.86 to 29.17; mid term: MD = 30.90, 95% CI 6.88 to 54.93; long term: MD = 24.63, 95% CI 2.30 to 46.95), as well as pulmonary functions on forced expiratory volume in the first second (mid term: MD = 0.10; 95% CI 0.01 to 0.19), and forced vital capacity (mid term: MD = 0.20; 95% CI 0.04 to 0.36). Concerning quality of life, we found Tai Chi was better than the control group for the Chronic Respiratory Disease Questionnaire dyspnoea score (short term: MD = 0.90; 95% CI 0.51 to 1.29), fatigue score (short term: MD = 0.75; 95% CI 0.42 to 1.09), and total score (short term: MD = 1.92; 95% CI 0.54 to 3.31). Conclusions: Tai Chi may improve exercise capacity in the short, mid, and long terms. However, no significant long term differences in pulmonary function and quality of life were observed for patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

    Abstract: Dynamic and quasi-static tensile tests of 5083P-O aluminium alloy were carried out using RPL100 electronic creep/fatigue testing machine and the split Hopkinson tension bar, respectively. The dynamic constitutive relation of the material at high strain rates was studied, and the constitutive model in accordance with Cowper–Symonds form was established. At the same time, a method to describe the constitutive relation of material using the strain rate interpolation method which is included in LS-DYNA software was proposed. The advantages and accuracy of this method were verified by comparing the results of the finite element simulation with the fitting results of the Cowper-Symonds model. The influence of material strain rate effect on squeezing force, energy absorption and deformation mode of the squeezing energy-absorbing structure based on the constitutive models of 5083P-O were studied by means of finite element simulation. The results show that when the strain rate of the structure deformation is low, the material strain rate strengthening effect has little influence on the structure. However, with the increase of the strain rate, the strengthening effect of the material will improve the squeezing force and the energy absorption of the structure, and will also influence the deformation mode, that is, the decrease of the deformation with high strain rates while the increase of the deformation with low strain rates.

    Abstract: A series of 16 substituted aryl-isothioureas were prepared in excellent yields (80–97%) by reacting substituted arylthioureas with allyl bromide or substituted benzyl bromides in the presence of NaH in DMSO at room temperature. The substituent variations on the benzyl reactants had a larger effect on the yields than substituent variations on the allyl reactants. The method provides a facile and convenient preparation of some potentially biologically active compounds.

    Abstract: Traditional Chinese medicine has great potential to improve wound healing. ANBP, the mixture of 4 Chinese herbs— Agrimoniapilosa, Nelumbonucifera, Boswelliacarteri, and Pollen typhae—is effective in trauma treatment while its mechanism is still elusive. In this study, quantitative proteomics and bioinformatics analyses were performed to decipher the possible roles of ANBP in accelerated wound healing of mouse skin. Among all 3171 identified proteins, 90, 71, 80, and 140 proteins were found to be differently expressed in 6 hours, 3 days, 7 days, and 14 days ANBP-treated tissues compared with corresponding control tissues, respectively. The result showed that different biological processes and pathways were activated at different healing stages. At the early healing stage, ANBP treatment mainly affected several biological processes, including immune and defense response, vascular system restoration, hemostasis and coagulation regulation, lipid metabolism and signal transduction, while muscle tissue, hair, epidermis, extracellular matrix and tissue remodeling related activities were the major events in ANBP promoted later wound healing. This is the first quantitative proteome study of ANBP-treated wound tissues, which provide a new perspective for the mechanism of ANBP accelerated wound healing and is of guiding significance for clinical application of ANBP in trauma disorders cure.

    Abstract: This paper proposes two different path following control schemes for a stratospheric airship with actuator saturation. Each of the control schemes consists of a guidance loop and an attitude control loop. In both schemes, guidance laws are designed according to the line-of-sight guidance-based path following principle. In the first control scheme, a robust H∞ controller without constraints is designed based on the planar model of a stratospheric airship to stabilize path-following errors. The input constraints are then addressed by using a regional [Formula: see text]-based model recovery anti-windup compensator, which prevents the unconstrained controller from misbehaving in the constrained closed loop with anti-windup augmentation and ensures the systematic stability. In the second control scheme, model predictive control is applied to guarantee the path-following of the closed-loop system and explicitly address the magnitude an d rate of rudders of the stratospheric airship. Theoretical results are illustrated by numerical simulations where both closed-loop systems are capable of following their desired paths and the constraints on control inputs are satisfied.

    Abstract: An efficient synthesis of 10 N-arylbenzamides was achieved by N-benzoylation of N,N-dimethyl-( N′-phenyl)thioureas with 4-substituted benzoyl chlorides in dimethylacetamide in the presence of K 2 CO 3 . The features of this method include good yields, short reaction times and broad substrate scope. This work showed that arylthiourea derivatives can be alternative and useful starting materials for the preparation of N-arylbenzamides.

    Abstract: The questions of how serious the extra traffic impact induced by project construction is on urban road networks and whether the construction should continue during planned special events represent a critical problem. In this paper, a framework of methodologies and workflow is presented in analyzing the project construction induced traffic impact during special events. We first analyze the characteristics of the traffic flow attracted by special events and project construction induced traffic flow. We then show how to evaluate the project construction induced traffic impact during special events and propose some quantitative analysis methods, which are different in nature from the traditional approach of traffic impact analysis. Some management and improvement strategies are subsequently proposed to mitigate the negative impact of project construction. A case study of a vertical construction during Expo 2010 in Shanghai is discussed as an application of the proposed framework. The results show that the traffic impact of this vertical construction during Expo is moderate. Through our subsequent monitoring of this vertical construction practice during Expo 2010, it can be concluded that the analysis method is reliable, the negative traffic impact of vertical construction to Expo is insignificant, and the suggested operation and management strategies are effective.

    Abstract: Epigenetic changes have been recently recognized as important in human cancers. Enhancer of zeste homologue 2 gene (EZH2) has been shown the overexpression in various human cancers, consistent with a straightforward role of EZH2 as an oncogene, but its function in carcinogenesis is partly contradictory. The role of EZH2 in development of human colorectal cancer (CRC) has not yet been clarified. In the present study, we observed up-regulation of EZH2 expression in tumor tissues from CRC patients. The expression of EZH2 in CRC cell lines is consistent with the trend in cancer tissues using reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR). We showed that TNM stage and lymph node metastasis in CRC patients are significantly correlated with EZH2 expression levels. EZH2 level of transcription and protein is inhibited by small interfering RNA (siRNA). More importantly, EZH2-siRNA inhibits the proliferation and migration of SW620 cells while promoting their apoptosis, and inducing G0/G1 cell cycle arrest of SW620 cells. Collectively, our results suggest that upregulated EZH2 expression may contribute to the progression of the patients with CRC. A comprehensive study of epigenetic mechanisms and the relevance of EZH2 in CRC is important for fully understanding this disease and as a basis for developing new treatment options in patients with CRC.

    Abstract: Stratospheric airships are important platforms for near-space enduring cruising capability for several applications. Since energy shortage is one of major limiting factors in stratospheric airship, it is crucial to develop novel methods to reduce the requirement on energy systems. In this article, optimal trajectory of stratospheric airship in gradient wind fields is investigated in order to reduce energy consumption. First, polynomial expressions for wind gradients are assumed, and three-dimensional point mass airship equations of motion are used. Then the variety characters of energy for stratospheric airship are studied, the minimum power output of power system is taken as the optimizing target, and collocation approach is used to convert the trajectory optimization problem into parameters optimization. The characters of stratospheric airship’s cruising in three typical wind field are analyzed, including control and state parameters time histories, power changes for airship system, and so on. This research work shows that the greater the wind gradient, the more favorable to reduce energy consumptions, but the speed of the gradient wind cannot be too high.

    Abstract: The consequences of therapeutic hypothermia for neonatal hypoxic–ischemic encephalopathy are poorly understood. Adverse effects from suboptimal rewarming could diminish neuroprotection from hypothermia. Therefore, we tested whether rewarming is associated with apoptosis. Piglets underwent hypoxia–asphyxia followed by normothermic or hypothermic recovery at 2 hours. Hypothermic groups were divided into those with no rewarming, rewarming at 0.5 °C/hour, or rewarming at 4 °C/hour. Neurodegeneration at 29 hours was assessed by hematoxylin and eosin staining, TUNEL assay, and immunoblotting for cleaved caspase-3. Rewarmed piglets had more apoptosis in motor cortex than did those that remained hypothermic after hypoxia–asphyxia. Apoptosis in piriform cortex was greater in hypoxic–asphyxic, rewarmed piglets than in naive/sham piglets. Caspase-3 inhibitor suppressed apoptosis with rewarming. Rapidly rewarmed piglets had more caspase-3 cleavage in cerebral cortex than did piglets that remained hypothermic or piglets that were rewarmed slowly. We conclude that rewarming from therapeutic hypothermia can adversely affect the newborn brain by inducing apoptosis through caspase mechanisms.
