    Abstract: This paper focuses on the numerical simulation of the flow status in the compressor with the condition of fouling. NASA stage 35 was considered as the object, and the commercial code ANSYS CFX was used. The deposition rate of contaminants on the surface was considered to be different along the height of the blade. A data from related study shows that the deposition rate of the contaminant on the side close to the hub is higher than the side near the shroud part. Based on the deposition law, this paper simulated the fouling of the compressor blades by changing the thickness on the blade surface. This subject only changed the thickness of the stator blade surface because of a data showing that the fouling on the stator blade surface is almost double that on the rotor blade surface. In the condition that the roughness value of the blade surface is constant, only the stable working range of the compressor is effected by the change of the surface thickness of the stator blade. There is a positive relationship between the value of compressor minimum flow rate and the value of thickness increment. After fouling the total pressure ratio and isentropic efficiency degenerated 1.59% and 3.76%, respectively.

    Abstract: Although noninferior to stent retriever (SR) as first-line approach for endovascular treatment (EVT) of acute large vessel occlusion (LVO) stroke, little is known about the current status of direct aspiration (DA) as first-line thrombectomy in China. This analysis of a prospective, nationwide registry (ANGEL-ACT) aimed to investigate the prevalence and comparative effectiveness of DA-first thrombectomy in a real-world practice in China. Methods: All patients receiving thrombectomy were screened from a prospective cohort of LVO patients undergoing EVT at 111 hospitals in China between November 2017 and March 2019, and divided into two groups based upon which type of thrombectomy was attempted first (“DA-first” and “SR-first”). The following outcome measures were compared using logistic regression models with adjustment: successful recanalization after first-device alone and all procedures, use of rescue treatment, intracranial hemorrhage (ICH) within 24 h, and modified Rankin Scale (mRS) score at 90 days. Results: A total of 1225 patients, 102 (8.3%) in DA-first group and 1123 (91.7%) in SR-first group, were included. Patients receiving DA-first had less often successful recanalization after first-device alone [30.4 versus 66.4%; odds ratio (OR) = 0.23, 95% confidence interval (CI) = 0.15–0.37], more frequent rescue treatment (62.8 versus 27.0%; OR = 4.55, 95% CI = 2.92–7.08) and ICH (35.4 versus 22.1%; OR = 1.78, 95% CI = 1.12–2.83) than those receiving SR-first; however, no significant difference was found in successful recanalization after all procedures (84.3 versus 90.3%; p = 0.18) and 90-day mRS (median: 3 versus 3 points; p = 0.90) between both groups. Conclusion: This real-world registry suggested that DA-first thrombectomy for acute stroke patients lagged behind in China during the study period. Far fewer DA-first than SR-first thrombectomies were performed, and DA-first was associated with lower first-device recanalization, more frequently requiring rescue treatment, and increased ICH risk.     Abstract: To explore the correlation between the width of the bony cochlear nerve canal (CNC) and long-term auditory rehabilitation after unilateral cochlear implantation (CI) in pediatric patients with congenital deafness and bilateral cochlear nerve canal stenosis (CNCS). A retrospective review was performed on 10 patients with bilateral CNCS and bilateral congenital profound hearing loss who each underwent unilateral cochlear implantation. The width of the CNC was determined on computed tomography (CT) imaging and following CI, auditory and speech performance following CI were graded using categories of auditory performance (CAP), speech intelligibility rating (SIR), and the meaningful auditory integration scale (MAIS) at 24 months following implantation. No correlation was noted between CAP score and CNCS at 24 months post CI ( P 〉 .05). A positive correlation was noted between SIR score and CNC width (ρ = .81, P 〈 .05). Similarly, a positive correlation was noted between MAIS and CNC width (ρ = .71, P 〈 .05). The width of the CNC in patients with CNCS is positively correlated with some long-term auditory and speech outcomes after CI.

    Abstract: Runt-related transcription factors regulate many developmental processes such as proliferation and differentiation. In this study, the function of the runt-related transcription factor 1 (RUNX1) was investigated in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC). Our results show that RUNX1 expression was elevated in HNSCC patients, which was greatly correlated with the N stage, tumor size, and American Joint Committee on Cancer stage. Cox proportional hazard models showed that RUNX1 could be used as a prognostic indicator for the overall survival of HNSCC patients (hazard ratio, 5.572; 95% confidence interval, 1.860–9.963; P  〈  0.001). Moreover, suppression of RUNX1 inhibited HNSCC cell proliferation, migration, and invasion. Using the HNSCC xenograft nude mouse model, we found that the shRUNX1-transfected tumor (sh-RUNX1) was significantly smaller both in size and weight than the control vector-transfected tumor (sh-Control). In conclusion, our results show that the elevated RUNX1 expression was correlated with tumor growth and metastasis in HNSCC, indicating that RUNX1 could be used as a biomarker for tumor recurrence and prognosis.

    Abstract: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is one of the most common cancers in the world. The landscape of HCC’s molecular alteration signature has been explored over the last few decades. Even so, more comprehensive research is still needed to improve understanding of tumorigenesis and progression of HCC, as well as to identify potential biomarkers for the malignancy. In this research, a comprehensive bioinformatics analysis was conducted based on the publicly available databases from both the Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) program and the gene expression omnibus (GEO) database. R/Bioconductor was used to analyze differentially expressed genes (DEGs) between HCC tumor and normal control (NC) samples, and then a protein-protein interaction (PPI) network of DEGs was established through the STRING platform. Finally, the application of specific candidate genes as diagnostic or prognostic biomarkers of HCC was explored and evaluated by ROC and survival analysis. A total of 310 DEGs were detected in the HCC tumor samples. Thirty-six hub DEGs in the PPI network and 10 candidates of the 36 genes showed significant alterations in tumor expression, including CDKN3, TOP2A, UBE2C, CDC20, PBK, ASPM, KIF20A, NCAPG, CCNB2, CYP3A4. The 10-gene signature had relatively significant effects when distinguishing tumors from normal samples (sensitivity 〉 70%, specificity 〉 70%, AUC 〉 0.8, p  〈  0.001). Eight candidate genes were negatively correlated with the overall survival rate of the patients ( p  〈  0.05) and were all up-regulated in HCC tumor samples. The age and gender factors had no significant impact on the overall survival rate of HCC patients ( p  〉  0.05), and the TNM stage status factor had a significant negative prognosis correlation ( p  〈  0.05). This research provides evidence for a better understanding of tumorigenesis and progression of HCC and helps to explore candidate targets for disease diagnosis and treatment.

    Abstract: Destabilization of blood vessels by the activities of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) following intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) has been considered the main causes of aggravated secondary brain injury. Here, we show that tumor necrosis factor superfamily-15 (TNFSF15; also known as vascular endothelial growth inhibitor), an inhibitor of VEGF-induced vascular hyper-permeability, when overexpressed in transgenic mice, exhibits a neuroprotective function post-ICH. In this study, we set-up a collagenase-induced ICH model with TNFSF15-transgenic mice and their transgene-negative littermates. We observed less lesion volume and neural function perturbations, together with less severe secondary injuries in the acute phase that are associated with brain edema and inflammation, including vascular permeability, oxidative stress, microglia/macrophage activation and neutrophil infiltration, and neuron degeneration, in the TNFSF15 group compared with the littermate group. Additionally, we show that there is an inhibition of VEGF-induced elevation of MMP-9 in the perihematomal blood vessels of the TNFSF15 mice following ICH, concomitant with enhanced pericyte coverage of the perihematomal blood vessels. These findings are consistent with the view that TNFSF15 may have a potential as a therapeutic agent for the treatment of secondary injuries in the early phase of ICH.

    Abstract: Although grading scales for angiography outcomes following cerebral aneurysm treatment with flow diversion have been published, physicians have not widely adopted these scales in practice. The aim of this study is to propose and validate a novel Flow diversion Predictive Score (4F-FPS) grading scale based on previously established scales that is simple and reliable. Methods: We retrospectively analyzed consecutive patients who underwent endovascular treatment for cerebral aneurysms with flow diversion between January 2014 and September 2019. The included patients were randomly divided into the derivation and validation group in a 70/30 ratio, respectively. Aneurysms were classified as incomplete or complete occlusion based on final angiography outcomes. 4F-FPS was derived to predict aneurysm occlusion from multivariate logistic regression analyses in the derivation group and validated with previously published grading scales in the validation group. Results: Overall, 662 patients [mean age, 53.8 years; 72.5% (480/662) female] with 662 aneurysms treated with the Pipeline TM flow diverter were included [69.9% (463/662) derivation group, 30.1% (199/662) validation group]. The incidence of aneurysm occlusion was 82.7%. 4F-FPS demonstrated significant discrimination in 10-fold cross validation [mean receiver operating characteristic (ROC) area, 0.862 ± 0.055] and calibration (Cox & Snell R 2 , 0.251; Nagelkerke R 2 , 0.413) in the derivation group. The ROC area of 4F-FPS score in both the derivation and validation groups is the largest compared with previously published grading scales/scores ( p  〈  0.05), which shows better sensitivity and specificity. The 4F-FPS score showed excellent prediction, discrimination, and calibration properties. Conclusion: The 4F-FPS score is a simple and reliable tool to predict angiography outcome after flow diversion treatment. If widely adopted, it may provide a common language to be used in future reporting of flow diversion results for clinical trials and daily practice.     Abstract: To evaluate the renal outcomes and prognostic factors among patients with type-2 diabetes (T2D) and biopsy-confirmed diabetic nephropathy (DN), non-diabetic renal disease (NDRD) and DN mixed with NDRD (MIX). Design and Methods: Patients with both T2D and chronic kidney disease (CKD) who underwent renal biopsy between January 2014 and December 2016 were recruited in this prospective observational study. Participants were divided into DN group, NDRD group, or MIX group according to the baseline pathological diagnosis. The primary endpoint was a composite renal event of end-stage renal disease (ESRD) or ⩾ 40% reduction in estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR). Results: Among the 292 participants included, 153 (52.4%) belonged to the DN group, 30 (10.3%) belonged to the NDRD group, and 109 (37.3%) belonged to the MIX group. During the median follow-up of 27 months, the adverse renal events occurred in 132 (44.2%) patients. Compared with NDRD group, the multiple adjusted hazard ratios (HRs) for renal events in patients with DN and MIX groups were 3.900 (95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.103–13.788) and 2.691 (95% CI: 0.662–10.936), respectively. Baseline lower eGFR (HR: 1.159, 95% CI : 1.060–1.266), severe proteinuria (HR: 2.047, 95% CI: 1.227–3.416), lower hemoglobin (HR: 1.170, 95% CI: 1.008–1.267), and a family history of diabetes (HR: 1.138, 95% CI: 1.008–2.285) were independent predictors for adverse renal outcomes in patients with DN. Conclusion: In patients with T2D and CKD, pure DN and MIX group displayed a worse renal prognosis than NDRD group. Worse renal function, severe proteinuria, lower hemoglobin, and a family history of diabetes may be associated with adverse renal outcomes in patients with DN.

    Abstract: Four 2-phenylthiazole derivatives are synthesized, characterized, and evaluated as cholinesterase inhibitors. The structures of the 2-phenylthiazole derivatives are confirmed by 1 H and 13 C nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy, single-crystal X-ray diffraction studies, and Hirshfeld surfaces analysis. Hirshfeld surface analysis of the prepared compounds showed C–H···O intermolecular interactions. The cholinesterase inhibition activities of the synthesized compounds are tested by Ellman’s method. [2-(4-Benzyloxyphenyl)-thiazol-4-yl]-(3,5-dimethylpiperidin-1-yl)-methanone showed the best acetylcholinesterase inhibition activity with an IC 50 value of 8.86 µM and the best butyrylcholinesterase inhibition activity with an IC 50 value of 1.03 µM. A docking study demonstrates that the same compound interacts with the catalytic anionic site and peripheral anionic site of acetylcholinesterase and the catalytic anionic site of butyrylcholinesterase.

    Abstract: Human beings can show preferentially attentional bias to different facial expressions. However, it is unclear whether the modulation of selective attention by facial expressions is based on the face itself (object-based attention) or its location (space-based attention). This study aimed to test this problem by using faces with different emotional valences in the two-rectangle paradigm across three experiments. We found that there was no significant difference in space-based effect among the positive, neutral, and negative conditions. However, the object-based effect was larger for the negative condition than for the neutral and positive ones, because of its slower reaction times for the invalid different-object trials. The results indicated that the object-based attentional selection was modulated by facial expressions, and that faces expressing negative emotions hamper the disengagement of attention from the whole object (i.e., the face), instead of the certain location. Our study can further add support to the attentional prioritisation hypothesis over attentional spreading hypothesis.
