Abstract: Background. CircFBXW7 has been determined to be involved in various cancers; however, its role in nonsmall cell lung cancer (NSCLC) remains unclear. This study examined the function and potential mechanism of circFBXW7 in NSCLC. Methods. The structure of circFBXW7 was verified via RT-PCR and Sanger sequencing. The expression of circFBXW7 in NSCLC was determined by qRT-PCR. The effect of circFBXW7 overexpression on the proliferation, migration, and invasion of NSCLC cells was examined by CCK-8 and Transwell assays. Furthermore, a circFBXW7-miRNA network was established to explore their interaction. Predicted miRNA was determined by qRT-PCR. Moreover, the miRNA mimics were synthesized, wherein its effect on proliferation, migration, and invasion of NSCLC cells overexpressed circFBXW7 was assessed. Results. The circularity of circFBXW7 was verified. The expression of circFBXW7 was found to be downregulated in NSCLC cells compared with that in normal human lung epithelial BEAS-2B cells. Overexpression of circFBXW7 reduced cell proliferation, migration, and invasion. Furthermore, according to the circFBXW7-miRNA network prediction and qRT-PCR validation, miR-492 was identified to be the target of circFBXW7. The inhibitory effect of circFBXW7 overexpression on cell proliferation, migration, and invasion was reversed by miR-492 mimics. Conclusion. CircFBXW7 is downregulated in NSCLC. CircFBXW7 inhibits NSCLC cells proliferation, migration, and invasion by regulating miR-492.

Abstract: Objective. To investigate the safety and efficacy of single-pump and double-pump sequential anticoagulation in general hemodialysis under the condition of constant citrate. Methods. A total of 32 patients with end-stage renal disease complicated with hemorrhage admitted by Zigong Third People’s Hospital from December 2019 to December 2020 were collected. Randomly divided into single pump group ( n = 17 ) and double pump group ( n = 15 ). The coagulation of dialyzer and intravenous pot was compared between the two groups. Then, the changes of serum calcium before treatment, after 2 h treatment, and after the completion of the treatment, and the front of the blood pump and intravenous pot, as well as behind the intravenous pot were observed and recorded in the two groups. Then, single-pool clearance of urea/volume (spKt/V) was compared between the two groups. Results. There were few differences in dialyzer coagulation between the single pump group and double pump group. However, the single pump group had a significant increase in the number of intravenous pot coagulations than the double pump group. At 2 h for dialysis, the serum calcium level behind the intravenous pot in the double pump group was notably lower than that in the single pump group. And after the completion of dialysis, the serum calcium returned to pretreatment level. The Kt/v in both groups reached the normal standard without statistically significant difference. And there were no adverse reactions in the patients of both groups after dialysis. Conclusion. For hemodialysis patients with bleeding, dual-pump segmented anticoagulation is superior to single-pump anticoagulation in intravenous pot anticoagulation. Double pump segmented sequential constant citrate anticoagulation can be utilized as a new simple and effective anticoagulation method for clinical hemodialysis.

Abstract: The widespread application of X-ray computed tomography (CT) in clinical diagnosis has led to increasing public concern regarding excessive radiation dose administered to patients. However, reducing the radiation dose will inevitably cause server noise and affect radiologists’ judgment and confidence. Hence, progressive low-dose CT (LDCT) image reconstruction methods must be developed to improve image quality. Over the past two years, deep learning-based approaches have shown impressive performance in noise reduction for LDCT images. Most existing deep learning-based approaches usually require the paired training dataset which the LDCT images correspond to the normal-dose CT (NDCT) images one-to-one, but the acquisition of well-paired datasets requires multiple scans, resulting the increase of radiation dose. Therefore, well-paired datasets are not readily available. To resolve this problem, this paper proposes an unpaired LDCT image denoising network based on cycle generative adversarial networks (CycleGAN) with prior image information which does not require a one-to-one training dataset. In this method, cyclic loss, an important trick in unpaired image-to-image translation, promises to map the distribution from LDCT to NDCT by using unpaired training data. Furthermore, to guarantee the accurate correspondence of the image content between the output and NDCT, the prior information obtained from the result preprocessed using the LDCT image is integrated into the network to supervise the generation of content. Given the map of distribution through the cyclic loss and the supervision of content through the prior image loss, our proposed method can not only reduce the image noise but also retain critical information. Real-data experiments were carried out to test the performance of the proposed method. The peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR) improves by more than 3 dB, and the structural similarity (SSIM) increases when compared with the original CycleGAN without prior information. The real LDCT data experiment demonstrates the superiority of the proposed method according to both visual inspection and quantitative evaluation.

Abstract: The metro tunnel construction mainly passes through the downtown area, including ground buildings, infrastructure, underground pipelines, existing subway lines, and station floors. However, it is very difficult to control the ground deformation, especially in the water-rich soft ground or in the tunnel engineering construction with strict requirements for surface settlement control. The traditional stratum reinforcement method may not meet the engineering needs. In this case, the artificial freezing method (AFM) provides a solution for such engineering problems. This paper summarizes the basic principle and characteristics and application scope of AFM, and compared with the other three stratum reinforcement methods, AFM has better effect in controlling surface displacement and vault settlement, while grouting method, pipe shed method, and pipe curtain method have absolute advantages in controlling surface uplift. Then, through engineering examples, the reinforcement effect of AFM in the four aspects of subway connecting passage, shield inlet and outlet, interval tunnel, and damage repair is introduced. Through analysis, it is found that the reinforcement effect of AFM in water-rich weak stratum is very good. Finally, the future development of AFM is prospected in order to provide some experience and guidance for the follow-up research.

Abstract: Background . Contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) scanning can detect differences between thyroid tumors and surrounding tissues. However, enhancement patterns within nodules are insufficient for the diagnosis of thyroid carcinomas. The peripheral enhancement patterns of nodules may provide useful diagnostic information. The objective of this study was to investigate the diagnostic accuracy of the peripheral enhancement patterns during CEUS scanning of thyroid nodules. Material and Methods . 120 nodules with peripheral rings during CEUS and definite pathology confirmed by surgery were included in this study. The internal and peripheral CEUS enhancement patterns of these nodules were assessed, and the diagnostic value of CEUS was compared with the conventional ultrasound. The relationship of types of peripheral rings and sizes of nodules was analyzed, respectively. Results . There were 78 benign and 42 malignant nodules. Peripheral irregular ring performs well in detecting malignancy. It improves the diagnostic performance of CEUS by combining with internal enhancement patterns (diagnostic sensitivity of 97.6%, specificity of 98.7%, and accuracy of 98.3%) and adds value to conventional ultrasound (95.2%, 70.5%, and 79.2%). The sizes of the nodules with regular high-enhanced rings (2.34 ± 1.33 cm) were larger than the other three types of peripheral rings ( P 〈 0.05 ). Conclusions . Features of peripheral ring on CEUS are important for the diagnosis of thyroid cancer; they can further contribute to the accuracy combining with the internal enhancement pattern, which could avoid the unnecessary biopsy.

Abstract: VCC is a computing paradigm which consists of vehicles cooperating with each other to realize a lot of practical applications, such as delivering packages. Security cooperation is a fundamental research topic in Vehicular Cloud Computing (VCC). Because of the existence of malicious vehicles, the security cooperation has become a challenging issue in VCC. In this paper, a trust-based model for security cooperating, named DBTEC, is proposed to promote vehicles’ security cooperation in VCC. DBTEC combines the indirect trust estimation in Public board and the direct trust estimation in Private board to compute the trust value of vehicles when choosing cooperative partners; a trustworthy cooperation path generating scheme is proposed to ensure the safety of cooperation and increase the cooperation completion rates in VCC. Extensive experiments show that our scheme improves the overall cooperation completion rates by 6~7%.

Abstract: There are many uncertainties with respect to the assessment of slope stability, and those associated with soil properties should be given particular attention. The uncertainty theory provides an alternative to treat these uncertainties using parochial cognitive sources. A novel methodology is proposed to evaluate the stability of slopes based on an uncertain set. The soil properties involved in the deterministic methods, i.e., shear strength parameters and unit weight, are expressed as uncertain sets, and their membership functions can be assumed to be triangular or trapezoidal for a homogeneous or two-layered slope, respectively. The parameter values of membership functions are designed according to the means and variations of the soil properties, and then the expected safety factor can be calculated through the operational laws. Two numerical examples including a homogeneous slope and a two-layered slope illustrate the suitability of the proposed methodology. The relationship between the variation in the safety factor and the changes in the soil properties is investigated; moreover, the determination of the parameter values of membership is also discussed.

Abstract: Researcher and analyst are often interested in estimating the effect of an intervention or treatment, which takes place at the aggregate level and affect one single unit, such as country and region. Thus, comparative case studies would be their first choice in practice. However, comparative case studies could fail to yield an estimate in the effect that is unbiased and consistent, as in some contexts; there are not suitable control units that are similar to the treated. The econometric literature has taken synthetic control methods and panel data approaches to this problem. In this study, we developed a principal covariate regression estimator, which exploits the cross-sectional correlation, as well as the temporal dependency, to reproduce the dynamics of the treated in the absence of an event or policy. From a theoretical perspective, we introduce the statistical literature on dimensional reduction to make a causal inference. From a technique perspective, we combine the vertical regression and the horizontal regression. We constructed an annual panel of 38 states, to evaluate the effect of Proposition 99 on beer sales in California, using the principal covariate regression estimator proposed here. We find that California’s tobacco control program had a significant negative and robust effect on local beer consumption, suggesting that policymakers could reduce the use of cigarette and alcohol in the public using one common behavioral intervention.

Abstract: The mechanisms underlying severe liver injury after brain-dead (BD) donor liver transplantation (BDDLT) remain unclear. In this study, we aimed to explore the roles of lncRNAs and circRNAs in liver injury after BDDLT. Rat liver injury was detected in the sham, BD, control, and BDDLT groups. We examined the expression profiles of lncRNAs and circRNAs in the livers of the BDDLT and control group using microarray analysis. The main functions of the differentially expressed genes were analyzed by gene ontology (GO) and KEGG pathway enrichment analysis. In addition, we used bioinformatic analyses to construct related expression networks. Liver injury was aggravated in the BD and BDDLT groups. We found various mRNAs, lncRNAs, and circRNAs that were differentially expressed in the BDDLT group compared with those in the control group. Coding-noncoding gene co-expression (CNC) network analysis showed that expression of the lncRNA LOC102553657 was associated with that of the apoptosis-related genes including HMOX1 and ATF3. Furthermore, competing endogenous RNAs (ceRNAs) network analysis revealed that the lncRNA LOC103692832 and rno_circRNA_007609 were ceRNAs of rno-miR-135a-5p targeting Atf3, Per2, and Mras. These results suggest that lncRNAs and circRNAs play important roles in the pathogenesis and development of liver injury during BDDLT.

Abstract: Objective. A case-control study was conducted to explore the correlation between serum inflammatory factor monitoring and cognitive function, language, and memory ability of Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and its clinical significance. Methods. Thirty-six patients with AD treated from April 2019 to August 2021 in our hospital were enrolled as the study subjects (AD group), and 30 healthy volunteers from the physical examination center and the AD group with the same sex, age, education, and no complaints of memory loss were enrolled as the control group. Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) and AD Rating Scale-Cognitive (ADAS-cog) were employed to assess the cognitive function of AD and the control group. The Chinese Standard aphasia Test of China Rehabilitation Research Center (CRRCAE) was employed to assess the language function of AD and NC population. The World Health Organization-University of California, Los Angeles Auditory Word Learning Test (WHO-UCLAAV-LT) scale was employed to evaluate the memory function of AD group and control group. The levels of inflammatory factors in serum of the AD group and control group were detected by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). The serum inflammatory factors levels were compared between the AD group and the control group, and the correlation between the level of serum inflammatory factors and cognitive function, language, and memory ability in the AD group was analyzed. Results. In terms of the demographic data of the two groups, there exhibited no significant difference in gender, age, education level, and other general data ( P 〉 0.05 ). In terms of cognitive function, MoCA scores were remarkably lower compared to the AD group. In the comparison of memory ability, the scores of long-term delayed recognition, delayed memory, and instantaneous memory in the AD group were remarkably lower ( P 〈 0.05 ). In the comparison of language ability, the scores of listening comprehension, reading, and naming in the AD group exhibited remarkably lower ( P 〈 0.05 ). With regard to the levels of serum inflammatory factors, the levels of serum interleukin-4 (IL-4), interleukin-6 (IL-6), interleukin-10 (IL-10), tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α), and CCL-12 in AD group were remarkably higher, while the level of TNF-β in the AD group was lower compared to the control group. Furthermore, there exhibited no significant correlation between the levels of serum IL-4, IL-6, IL-10, TNF-α, CCL-2, and the total scores, MoCA, and ADAS-cog, but there exhibited a positive relationship between the level of serum TNF-β and the score of MoCA scale. The correlations between IL-4, IL-6, IL-10, TNF-α, TNF-β, CCL-2, and the scores of long-term delayed recognition, delayed memory, and instantaneous memory were analyzed in the AD group. The serum levels of IL-4, IL-6, IL-10, TNF-α, CCL-2, and TNF-β were not remarkably correlated with the scores of long-term delayed recognition, delayed memory, and instantaneous memory. The correlations between IL-4, IL-6, IL-10, TNF-α, TNF-β, CCL-2, and the scores of listening comprehension, reading, and naming were analyzed in the AD group, but with no significant correlation between the serum levels of IL-4, IL-6, IL-10, CCL-2, TNF-α, and TNF-β and the scores of listening comprehension, reading, and naming. Conclusion. Compared with the control group, the levels of serum IL-4, IL-6, IL-10, TNF-α, and CCL-2 in patients with AD exhibited remarkably higher, while the level of serum TNF-β exhibited remarkably lower. The level of serum TNF-β was remarkably correlated with cognitive function in patients with AD, which may reflect the severity of cognitive impairment in patients with AD.
