Abstract: Background and Purpose: Temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE) is a common chronic neurological disease that is often invulnerable to anti-epileptic drugs. Increasing data have demonstrated that acetylcholine (ACh) and cholinergic neurotransmission are involved in the pathophysiology of epilepsy. Cytisine, a full agonist of α7 nicotinic acetylcholine receptors (α7nAChRs) and a partial agonist of α4β2nAChRs, has been widely applied for smoking cessation and has shown neuroprotection in neurological diseases. However, whether cytisine plays a role in treating TLE has not yet been determined. Experimental Approach: In this study, cytisine was injected intraperitoneally into pilocarpine-induced epileptic rats for three weeks. Alpha-bungarotoxin (α-bgt), a specific α7nAChR antagonist, was used to evaluate the mechanism of action of cytisine. Rats were assayed for the occurrence of seizures and cognitive function by video surveillance and Morris water maze. Hippocampal injuries and synaptic structure were assessed by Nissl staining and Golgi staining. Furthermore, levels of glutamate, γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA), ACh, and α7nAChRs were measured. Results: Cytisine significantly reduced seizures and hippocampal damage while improving cognition and inhibiting synaptic remodeling in TLE rats. Additionally, cytisine decreased glutamate levels without altering GABA levels, and increased ACh levels and α7nAChR expression in the hippocampi of TLE rats. α-bgt antagonized the above-mentioned effects of cytisine treatment. Conclusion and Implications: Taken together, these findings indicate that cytisine exerted an anti-epileptic and neuroprotective effect in TLE rats via activation of α7nAChRs, which was associated with a decrease in glutamate levels, inhibition of synaptic remodeling, and improvement of cholinergic transmission in the hippocampus. Hence, our findings not only suggest that cytisine represents a promising anti-epileptic drug, but provides evidence of α7nAChRs as a novel therapeutic target for TLE.

Abstract: Airway epithelium plays critical roles in regulating airway surface liquid (ASL), the alteration of which causes mucus stasis symptoms. Allicin is a compound released from garlic and harbors the capacity of lung-protection. However, the potential regulatory effects of allicin on airway epithelium remain elusive. This study aimed to investigate the effects of allicin on ion transport across airway epithelium and evaluate its potential as an expectorant. Application of allicin induced Cl − secretion across airway epithelium in a concentration-dependent manner. Blockade of cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator (CFTR) or inhibition of adenylate cyclase-cAMP signaling pathway attenuated allicin-induced Cl − secretion in airway epithelial cells. The in vivo study showed that inhaled allicin significantly increased the ASL secretion in mice. These results suggest that allicin induces Cl − and fluid secretion across airway epithelium via activation of CFTR, which might provide therapeutic strategies for the treatment of chronic pulmonary diseases associated with ASL dehydration.

Abstract: To improve the efficiency of heat utilization on domestic gas-cooker, the reasons of low-heat efficiency and the factors which influence the measurement of heat efficiency were analyzed in this paper. A new energy-saving apparatus of domestic gas-cooker is developed by the preparation of special heat-insulating material, heat reflecting paint and the use of multilayer, scraggly and crossed abdominal fire rings. Meanwhile, the special designs with resort chambers of flame and the micropores can contribute to the circulation of combustion-supporting hot air. It has also demonstrated that the design increased evidently the detention and reflection of heat. Test results show that the efficiency of gas combustion and the heat utilization were effectively improved.

Abstract: In order to solve the problem of quantitative traceability of detection devices for fire emergency lighting and evacuation indication systems. Method analysis and research were conducted on parameters such as emergency switching time, emergency working time, DC charging voltage, DC discharge voltage, DC charging current, DC discharge current, environmental test temperature, and environmental test humidity. We searched for appropriate calibration methods for the technical characteristics of each parameter and designed a set of calibration devices for fire emergency lighting detectors. The test results show that the technical indicators of the calibration device can meet the traceability requirements of the fire emergency lighting and evacuation indication system.

Abstract: Preoperative sarcopenia is a prognostic risk factor for gastric cancer (GC). This study aimed to determine whether radiomic sarcopenia features on computed tomography (CT) could be used to diagnose sarcopenia preoperatively, and whether they could be used to accurately predict the postoperative survival and complication prognosis of patients with GC. Methods We retrospectively analyzed data of 550 patients with GC who underwent radical gastrectomy. The patients were divided into training (2014–2016) and validation (2017–2019) cohorts. We established a radiomics-based diagnosis tool for sarcopenia. Thereafter, univariate and multivariate analyses of diagnostic factors were carried out. Receiver operator characteristic (ROC) curves and area under the curve (AUC) were used to compare different diagnostic models. The Kaplan–Meier method was used to estimate the survival curve. Results Radiomic sarcopenia correlated with complications and long-term survival. Skeletal muscle index, grip strength, and walking speed were correlated with postoperative complications in both cohorts (AUCs: 0.632, 0.577, and 0.614, respectively in the training cohort; 0.570, 0.605, 0.546, respectively, in the validation cohort), and original sarcopenia was more accurate than any of these indicators. However, radiomic sarcopenia has a higher AUC in predicting short-term complications than original sarcopenia in both groups (AUCs: 0.646 vs. 0.635 in the training cohort; 0.641 vs. 0.625 in the validation cohort). In the training cohort, the overall survival time of patients with original sarcopenia was shorter than normal patients (hazard ratio, HR = 1.741; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.044–2.903; p = 0.031). While radiomic sarcopenia had a greater prognostic significance, the overall survival time of patients with radiomic sarcopenia was significantly worse than normal patients (HR, 1.880; 95% CI, 1.225–2.885, p = 0.003). Conclusion Extracted sarcopenia features based on CT can predict long-term survival and short-term complications of GC patients after surgery, and its accuracy has been verified by training and validation groups. Compared with original sarcopenia, radiomic sarcopenia can effectively improve the accuracy of survival and complication prediction and also shorten the time and steps of traditional screening, thereby reducing the subjectivity effects of sarcopenia assessment.

Abstract: Nightmares were related to emotion and behavioral problems and also emerged as one of the core features of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Our study aimed to investigate the associations of frequent nightmares with sleep duration and sleep efficiency among frontline medical workers in Wuhan during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) outbreak. Methods A total of 528 health-care workers from the province of Fujian providing medical aid in Wuhan completed the online questionnaires. There were 114 doctors and 414 nurses. The age, sex, marital status, and work situation were recorded. A battery of scales including the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) and the 12-item General Health Questionnaire (GHQ-12) were used to evaluate subjects’ sleep and general mental health. Frequent nightmares were defined as the response of at least once a week in the item of “nightmare” of PSQI. Results Frequent nightmares were found in 27.3% of subjects. The frequent nightmare group had a higher score of PSQI-sleep duration and PSQI-habitual sleep efficiency (frequent nightmares vs. non-frequent nightmares: PSQI-sleep duration, 1.08 ± 0.97 vs. 0.74 ± 0.85, P & lt; 0.001; PSQI-habitual sleep efficiency, 1.08 ± 1.10 vs. 0.62 ± 0.88, P & lt; 0.001). Reduced sleep duration and reduced sleep efficiency were independently associated with frequent nightmares after adjustment for age, sex, poor mental health, and regular sleeping medication use (reduced sleep duration: OR = 1.96, 95% CI = 1.07–3.58, P = 0.029; reduced sleep efficiency: OR = 2.17, 95% CI = 1.09–4.32, P = 0.027). Subjects with both reduced sleep duration and sleep efficiency were also associated with frequent nightmares (OR = 2.70, 95% CI = 1.57–4.65, P & lt; 0.001). Conclusion The present study found that sleep duration and sleep efficiency were both independently associated with frequent nightmares among frontline medical workers in Wuhan during the COVID-19 pandemic. We should pay attention to nightmares and even the ensuing PTSD symptoms among subjects with reduced sleep duration or sleep efficiency facing potential traumatic exposure.

Abstract: Considering the efficient use of energy and environmental pollution, people's lives tend to energy saving and environmental protection, and energy saving electric vehicles has gradually been widely used. Through combining theoretical analysis, numerical simulation, system design and experimental validation, based on studying electric vehicle body design principles, the experiment optimized electric vehicle body design, and reduced the weight of the vehicle effectively. Its performance becomes more advanced, and the application becomes more economical and safe. By using Solidworks software, lightweight electric vehicle body structure of two-dimensional design and three-dimensional modeling was built to reach practical requirements. The body structure design is original and simple, which has good practical value.

Abstract: The number of children born after assisted reproductive technology (ART) is accumulating rapidly, and the health problems of the children are extensively concerned. This study aims to evaluate whether ART procedures alter behaviours in male offspring. Mouse models were utilized to establish three groups of offspring conceived by natural conception (NC), in vitro fertilization and embryo transfer (IVF-ET), and frozen-thawed embryo transfer (IVF-FET), respectively. A battery of behaviour experiments for evaluating anxiety and depression levels, including the open field test (OFT), elevated plus maze (EPM) test, light/dark transition test (L/DTT), tail suspension test (TST), forced swimming test (FST), and sucrose preference test (SPT) was carried out. Aged (18 months old), but not young (3 months old), male offspring in the IVF-ET and IVF-FET groups, compared with those in the NC group, exhibited increased anxiety and depression-like behaviours. The protein expression levels of three neurotrophins in PFC or hippocampus in aged male offspring from the IVF-ET and IVF-FET groups reduced at different extent, in comparison to NC group. RNA sequencing (RNA-Seq) was performed in the hippocampus of 18 months old offspring to further explore the gene expression profile changes in the three groups. KEGG analyses revealed the coexisted pathways, such as PI3K-Akt signalling pathway, which potentially reflected the similarity and divergence in anxiety and depression between the offspring conceived by IVF-ET and IVF-FET. Our research suggested the adverse effects of advanced age on the psychological health of children born after ART should be highlighted in the future.

Abstract: Optical fiber time delay system has been widely used in optical-controlled phased array antenna, radar distributed network, interferometric optical fiber hydrophone and high-speed photoelectric chip. These applications require high-accuracy and high-stability time delay generated by the system. Time delay measurement directly determines the precision and resolution of the system. Therefore, high-precision time delay measurement method is of great significance in developing the optical fiber delay system. In this paper, progress and problems of optical fiber time delay measurements are discussed. A new method of precisely measuring the time delay in optical fiber is proposed. We use the frequency domain reflectometry (FDR) to avoid the discrepancy between measuring range and measuring precision, which exists in both time-of-flight (TOF) method and phase discrimination approach. An intensity modulated 1064 nm laser signal is used as a light source. The modulation frequency is tuned from 10 MHz to 200 MHz in steps of 0.5 MHz. The spectrum of echo signal is obtained by measuring the amplitudes and phases of echo signals at different frequency points. The delay information is obtained via the inverse fast Fourier transform (IFFT). The precision of delay measurement in our method is determined by step size of frequency variation, and a higher-precision measurement is realized by using interpolation zero algorithm. Since our method is not to modulate the optical frequency, but to control the frequency of the modulation signal loaded on the electro-optic modulator, it is easy to achieve the high-precision and high-linearity frequency modulation. In this paper, theoretical analysis and time delay measurement are used to compare the FDR method with conventional TOF measurement method. The accurate measurement of 33–200 ps is realized, and measurement error is lower than 7 ps. We also design an incremental measurement experiment to study the resolution of the FDR method, which achieves a delay resolution of 3.3 ps. The influence of temperature jitter is analyzed to prove the reliability of experimental results. It proves that the FDR method has a higher measuring accuracy than the TOF method. The time delay measurement precision can be further improved by expanding the modulation bandwidth. Our method is to be applied to an optical fiber delay system to improve the precision and resolution of system delay.

Abstract: Based on a general dynamical model for disaster spreading, in different network structures, i.e. in Erdos-Renyi network, scale-free network and small world network, the influences of network centrality on the speed and trend of disaster spreading are analyzed by simulation. By changing the initial spreading condition, the influence of initial state on the spreading efficiency is analyzed. In this paper the differences between final disaster spreading state are mainly discussed based on four initial vertex-choosing strategies. For the four strategies, it is shown that there are apparent differences. Complex network has a strong ability to resist random attacks but is is fragile to resist intentional attacks. However, the three networks show different degrees of fragility. And then, the theoretical analysis results are verified in an actual network.
