    Abstract: Multicomponent superconductors exhibit nontrivial vortex behaviors due to the various vortex–vortex interactions, including the competing one in the recently proposed type-1.5 superconductor. However, potential candidate that can be used to study the multicomponent superconductivity is rare. Here, we prepared an artificial superconducting multilayer to act as an alternative approach to study multicomponent superconductivity. The additional repulsive length and the coupling strength among superconducting films were regulated by changing the thickness of the insulting layer. The magnetization measurements were performed to clarify the effect of the competition between the repulsive vortex interactions on the macroscopic superconductivity. The vortex phase diagram and the optimum critical current density have been determined. Furthermore, a second magnetization effect is observed, and is attributed to the upper layer, which provides the weak pinning sites to localize the flux lines. The pinning behaviors switches to the mixed type with the increase of the insulting layer thicknesses. Our results open a new perspective to the study and related applications of the multilayer superconducting systems.

    Abstract: This study aimed to develop a radiomics nomogram based on contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) for preoperatively assessing microvascular invasion (MVI) in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) patients. Methods A retrospective dataset of 313 HCC patients who underwent CEUS between September 20, 2016 and March 20, 2020 was enrolled in our study. The study population was randomly grouped as a primary dataset of 192 patients and a validation dataset of 121 patients. Radiomics features were extracted from the B-mode (BM), artery phase (AP), portal venous phase (PVP), and delay phase (DP) images of preoperatively acquired CEUS of each patient. After feature selection, the BM, AP, PVP, and DP radiomics scores (Rad-score) were constructed from the primary dataset. The four radiomics scores and clinical factors were used for multivariate logistic regression analysis, and a radiomics nomogram was then developed. We also built a preoperative clinical prediction model for comparison. The performance of the radiomics nomogram was evaluated via calibration, discrimination, and clinical usefulness. Results Multivariate analysis indicated that the PVP and DP Rad-score, tumor size, and AFP (alpha-fetoprotein) level were independent risk predictors associated with MVI. The radiomics nomogram incorporating these four predictors revealed a superior discrimination to the clinical model (based on tumor size and AFP level) in the primary dataset (AUC: 0.849  vs . 0.690; p  & lt; 0.001) and validation dataset (AUC: 0.788  vs . 0.661; p = 0.008), with a good calibration. Decision curve analysis also confirmed that the radiomics nomogram was clinically useful. Furthermore, the significant improvement of net reclassification index (NRI) and integrated discriminatory improvement (IDI) implied that the PVP and DP radiomics signatures may be very useful biomarkers for MVI prediction in HCC. Conclusion The CEUS-based radiomics nomogram showed a favorable predictive value for the preoperative identification of MVI in HCC patients and could guide a more appropriate surgical planning.

    Abstract: Ultrasound elastography (USE) provides complementary information of tissue stiffness and elasticity to conventional ultrasound imaging. It is noninvasive and free of radiation, and has become a valuable tool to improve diagnostic performance with conventional ultrasound imaging. However, the diagnostic accuracy will be reduced due to high operator-dependence and intra- and inter-observer variability in visual observations of radiologists. Artificial intelligence (AI) has great potential to perform automatic medical image analysis tasks to provide a more objective, accurate and intelligent diagnosis. More recently, the enhanced diagnostic performance of AI applied to USE have been demonstrated for various disease evaluations. This review provides an overview of the basic concepts of USE and AI techniques for clinical radiologists and then introduces the applications of AI in USE imaging that focus on the following anatomical sites: liver, breast, thyroid and other organs for lesion detection and segmentation, machine learning (ML) - assisted classification and prognosis prediction. In addition, the existing challenges and future trends of AI in USE are also discussed.

    Abstract: Purpose: This network meta-analysis was conducted to obtain the relative effectiveness of different pharmacotherapy of macular edema secondary to retinal vein occlusion (RVO) by summarizing all available evidences. Methods: PubMed, Embase, and Cochrane Library databases were searched for all relevant randomized controlled trials. The outcomes were estimated through a network meta-analysis, including the mean change in best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA) from baseline, the proportion of patients who gained ≥15 letters in BCVA from baseline, the mean change in central retinal thickness (CRT). Results: We identified 15 randomized controlled trials (RCTs) involving 3,431 patients with RVO in our study. Different therapeutic regimens were compared including three anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) agents (ranibizumab, bevacizumab, and aflibercept), ranibizumab with laser, dexamethasone intravitreal implant, and laser. For branch RVO, ranibizumab 0.5 mg monthly [weighted mean difference (WMD) = 11, 95% confidence intervals (CrI) 3.6 to 19], ranibizumab 0.5 mg 3 + pro re nata (WMD = 9.4, 95% CrI 0.43–18) is most effective in terms of changes of BCVA and 15 letters or more of BCVA improvement. For central RVO, three anti-VEGF regimens can improve visual acuity and there is no significant difference of efficacy among ranibizumab, bevacizumab and aflibercept ( p & gt; 0.05). Ranibizumab 0.5 mg monthly could achieve additional efficacy in CRT reduction in eyes with branch RVO or central RVO (WMD = -130, 95% CrI -400 to 140 or WMD = -280, 95% CrI -590 to 16)). Dexamethasone intravitreal implant (WMD = 1.7, 95% CrI -4.2 to 7.1 or WMD = 0.38, 95% CrI -9.8 to 8.8)) did not show a significant improvement in visual acuity at the end of 6 months follow-up in eyes with branch RVO or central RVO. Conclusion: In summary, this network meta-analysis demonstrated several anti-VEGF agents had equivalent effects on mean visual acuity changes and anatomical recovery in 6 months in eyes with branch or central RVO. Only one injection of dexamethasone intravitreal implant in 6 months could not maintain the visual benefit. Patients and clinicians could choose pharmacotherapies with further consideration toward personal factors.

    Abstract: Rising greenhouse gas emissions have contributed to unprecedented levels of climate change, while microbial conversion and utilization of CO2 is a practical way to reduce emissions and promote green manufacturing. This article mainly summarizes several natural CO2 pathways that have been discovered, including the Calvin cycle, the reduced tricarboxylic acid (rTCA) cycle, the Wood–Ljungdahl (WL) pathway, the 3-hydroxypropionate/4-hydroxybutyrate (HP/HB) cycle, the dicarboxylate/4-hydroxybutyrate (DC/HB) cycle, the 3-hydroxypropionate (3HP) cycle, the reductive glycine (rGly) pathway, and artificially designed carbon fixation pathways includes the CETCH cycle, the MOG pathway, the acetyl-CoA bicycle, and the POAP cycle. We also discussed applications of different carbon fixation enzymes, notably ribulose-1, 5-diphosphate carboxylase/oxygenase, pyruvate carboxylase, carbonic anhydrase, as well as formate dehydrogenase. This paper further addressed the development of photosynthetic autotrophs, chemergic autotrophs and model bacteria Escherichia coli or yeast produced main products for CO2 fixation through metabolic engineering, such as alcohols, organic acids, fatty acids and lipids, bioplastics, terpenoids, hydrocarbons, and biomass. Future studies on CO2 microbial conversion should focus on improving the efficiency of carbon fixation enzymes, metabolic modules of the carbon sequestration pathway, and intracellular energy utilization. Coupled microbial and electrochemical methods for CO2 fixation, in addition to biological fixation, show considerable promise.

    Abstract: AIM: To investigate corneal graft survival rate and endothelial cell density (ECD) loss after keratoplasty in cytomegalovirus (CMV) positive patients. METHODS: This was a retrospective cohort study. We analyzed the clinical data of patients who underwent viral DNA detection in aqueous humor/corneal tissue collected during keratoplasty from March 2015 to December 2018 at the Peking University Third Hospital, Beijing, China. To further evaluate the effect of CMV on graft survival rate and ECD loss, patients were divided into three groups: 1) CMV DNA positive (CMV+) group; 2) viral DNA negative (virus-) group, comprising virus- group eyes pairwise matched to eyes in the CMV+ group according to ocular comorbidities; 3) control group, comprising virus- group eyes without ocular comorbidities. The follow-up indicators including graft survival rate, ECD, ECD loss, and central corneal thickness (CCT), were analyzed by Tukey honestly significant difference (HSD) test. RESULTS: Each group included 29 cases. The graft survival rate in CMV+ group were lowest among the three groups (P=0.000). No significant difference in donor graft ECD was found among three groups (P=0.54). ECD in the CMV+ group was lower than the virus- group at 12 (P=0.009), and 24mo (P=0.002) after keratoplasties. Furthermore, ECD loss was higher in the CMV+ group than in the virus- group in the middle stage (6-12mo) post-keratoplasty (P=0.017), and significantly higher in the early stage (0-6mo) in the virus- group than in the control group (P=0.000). CONCLUSION: CMV reduces the graft survival rate and exerts persistent detrimental effects on the ECD after keratoplasty. The graft ECD loss associate with CMV infection mainly occurrs in the middle stage (6-12mo postoperatively), while ocular comorbidities mainly affects ECD in the early stage (0-6mo postoperatively).

    Abstract: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is one of the most common digestive malignancies. HCC It ranges as the fifth most common cause of cancer mortality worldwide. While The prognosis of metastatic or advanced HCC is still quite poor. Recently, locoregional treatment, especially local ablation therapies, plays an important role in the treatment of HCC. Radiofrequency ablation (RFA) and high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) ablation are the most common-used methods effective and feasible for treating HCC. However, the molecular mechanisms underlying the actions of ablation in the treatments for HCC and the HCC recurrence after ablation still are poorly understood. Hypoxia-inducible factor (HIF), the key gene switch for adaptive responses to hypoxia, has been found to play an essential role in the rapid aggressive recurrence of HCC after ablation treatment. In this review, we summarized the current evidence of the roles of HIF in the treatment of HCC with ablation. Fifteen relevant studies were included and further analyzed. Among them, three clinical studies suggested that HIF-1α might serve as a crucial role in the RAF treatment of HCC or the local recurrence of HCC after RFA. The remainder included experimental studies demonstrated that HIF-1, 2α might target the different molecules (e.g., BNIP3, CA-IX, and arginase-1) and signaling cascades (e.g., VEGFA/EphA2 pathway), constituting a complex network that promoted HCC invasion and metastasis after ablation. Currently, the inhibitors of HIF have been developed, providing important proof of targeting HIF for the prevention of HCC recurrence after IRFA and HIFU ablation. Further confirmation by prospective clinical and in-depth experimental studies is still warranted to illustrate the effects of HIF in HCC recurrence followed ablation treatment in the future.
