    Abstract: Assessing nursing-related competences becomes increasingly relevant. Therefore, psychometrically tested and contentual appropriate instruments are needed. The Nurse Professional Competence (NPC) Scale seems convenient to assess nurses' competences in German-speaking countries. This article describes the translation and cultural adaption of the NPC Scale English-language version for the German-speaking linguistic area of Austria (AUT), following the respective principles defined by the International Society for Pharmaoeconomics and Outcome Research (ISPOR). The aim was to provide a German-language version of the NPC Scale usable for the Austrian specific linguistic and cultural area. Due to polydimensionality of the scale and the extensive number of items being stepwise revised by researchers, several innovative methodological approaches were required to ensure transparent and comprehensible decision-making, data-revision and consensus-gainig throughout the overall process. Useful methods are presented to cope with challenges accompanying the coverage of decentralized data-revision and consensus-finding within the translation and cultural adaption of a polydimensional scale with a high number of items. The Nurse Professional Competence Scale, 88 items – German Austrian language version is conceptually, semantically and idiomatically equivalent compared to the NPC Scale original version and is recommendable for the usage in the target country's nursing context from a linguistic point of view.

    Abstract: Attracting and retaining talented employees has become one of the most pressing challenges for companies in their struggle for achieving and sustaining competitive advantage. Personnel assessment and personnel selection plays an important role in this context. On the one hand, its methods can help, to distinguish between suitable applicants and less suitable ones. On the other hand, personnel assessment and selection affects the perceived attractiveness of the employer. Therefore, it is closely related to employer branding. In the course of digitization, artifcial intelligence is now increasingly used in personnel attraction and selection. New instruments are being introduced. For example, computeraided speech recognition can allegedly be used to generate personality profles of applicants. However, the scientifc debate on this topic seems to lag far behind the marketing of corresponding instruments. From a scientifc point of view, it is questionable not only whether such instruments are prognostically valid, but also whether they are accepted by applicants. Within the framework of an experimental study, two important questions are thus investigated: What effect do job advertisements have on the perceived attractiveness of an employer if the use of computer-aided speech recognition for personnel selection is explicitly pointed out? To what extent is the relationship between job advertisements with and without reference to speech recognition on the attractiveness of employers moderated by technology acceptance, country-specifc differences and qualifcation? Answers to these questions will enhance our understanding of applicant reactions to selection procedures. In addition, they provide important information for the practice of human resource management in the context of employer branding.

    Abstract: Object. The goal of this study was to evaluate a novel form of brain surface representation that allows simple, reliable mapping of the surface neuroanatomy for the preoperative evaluation of the spatial relationship between a focal lesion and the precentral gyrus. Methods. High-resolution three-dimensional (3D) magnetic resonance (MR) imaging data sets were postprocessed using a curved multiplanar reformatting technique to create brain surface reformatted (BSR) images. These BSR images were reconstructed in less than 5 minutes and demonstrated the entire central sulcus with adjacent surface structures in one view. Two experienced neuroradiologists determined the localization of lesions near the central sulcus in 27 patients on standard MR images in three orthogonal planes and on BSR images. In addition, these observers judged whether the lesions were easy or difficult to localize on standard MR and BSR images, and whether diagnoses based on these methods were certain or doubtful. Anatomical localization based on BSR images was compared with that based on functional MR (fMR) images or intraoperative mapping of motor function. The BSR images yielded a perfect concordance with the fMR images and intraoperative mapping (Cohen κ 1.0) and optimal diagnostic accuracy in localizing perirolandic lesions (both sensitivity and specificity were 100%). Localization was judged to be easy for 48 of 54 diagnoses based on BSR images compared with 26 of 54 based on standard MR images. Diagnoses were assessed as certain for 52 cases based on BSR images and 34 cases based on standard MR images. Conclusions. Brain surface reformatted imaging improves the diagnostic accuracy of standard anatomical MR imaging for localizing superficial brain lesions in relation to the precentral gyrus. The complementary use of this technique with standard two-dimensional imaging is supported by the fast and simple postprocessing technique and may provide useful information for preoperative surgical planning.

    Abstract: The observation of electromagnetic radiation from radio to γ-ray wavelengths has provided a wealth of information about the Universe. However, at PeV (10 15 eV) energies and above, most of the Universe is impenetrable to photons. New messengers, namely cosmic neutrinos, are needed to explore the most extreme environments of the Universe where black holes, neutron stars, and stellar explosions transform gravitational energy into non-thermal cosmic rays. These energetic particles have millions of times higher energies than those produced in the most powerful particle accelerators on Earth. As neutrinos can escape from regions otherwise opaque to radiation, they allow an unique view deep into exploding stars and the vicinity of the event horizons of black holes. The discovery of cosmic neutrinos with IceCube has opened this new window on the Universe. IceCube has been successful in finding first evidence for cosmic particle acceleration in the jet of an active galactic nucleus. Yet, ultimately, its sensitivity is too limited to detect even the brightest neutrino sources with high significance, or to detect populations of less luminous sources. In this white paper, we present an overview of a next-generation instrument, IceCube-Gen2, which will sharpen our understanding of the processes and environments that govern the Universe at the highest energies. IceCube-Gen2 is designed to: (a) Resolve the high-energy neutrino sky from TeV to EeV energies (b) Investigate cosmic particle acceleration through multi-messenger observations (c) Reveal the sources and propagation of the highest energy particles in the Universe (d) Probe fundamental physics with high-energy neutrinos IceCube-Gen2 will enhance the existing IceCube detector at the South Pole. It will increase the annual rate of observed cosmic neutrinos by a factor of ten compared to IceCube, and will be able to detect sources five times fainter than its predecessor. Furthermore, through the addition of a radio array, IceCube-Gen2 will extend the energy range by several orders of magnitude compared to IceCube. Construction will take 8 years and cost about $350M. The goal is to have IceCube-Gen2 fully operational by 2033. IceCube-Gen2 will play an essential role in shaping the new era of multi-messenger astronomy, fundamentally advancing our knowledge of the high-energy Universe. This challenging mission can be fully addressed only through the combination of the information from the neutrino, electromagnetic, and gravitational wave emission of high-energy sources, in concert with the new survey instruments across the electromagnetic spectrum and gravitational wave detectors which will be available in the coming years.
