Abstract: Introduction: Globally, an increasing number of babies have been born with the help of Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART) treatment. While most births after ART are uncomplicated, sometimes it is associated with adverse perinatal outcomes such as preterm birth, low birth weight and increased risk of congenital anomalies. Therefore, the objective of this study was to assess the perinatal outcomes in children born after assisted reproductive technologies at a tertiary fertility center in Nepal. Methodology: This was a descriptive study which analyzed retrospective data collected from the medical record of a tertiary fertility center at Lalitpur, Nepal. Perinatal outcomes of total 201 births that resulted from various ART treatment that was conducted in the center from November 2015 till April 2021 have been included in this study. Univariate analysis was done in SPSS version 20. Results: Altogether, there were 201 total births out of which 199 were live births and 2 were stillbirths. Among the live births around two-third (69.7%) were singleton deliveries and remaining one- third (30.4%) were multiple deliveries. More than 90% of study population had undergone Lower Segment Caesarean Section (LSCS). There were 263 live born babies resulting from 199 live births. More than half of the babies were born prematurely (50.19%). Low birth weight (LBW) and very low birth weight (VLBW) was seen among 36.50% and 7.22% babies respectively. Congenital abnormality was identified in 13 babies (4.94%) Four stillborn babies and eight neonatal deaths were reported. More adverse perinatal outcomes were seen among twins and triplets than singleton babies. Conclusion: While most births were uncomplicated, certain extent of adverse perinatal outcomes among the ART conceived babies cannot be ignored. Vigilant monitoring of pregnancy conceived by ART treatment helps in improving the perinatal outcome.

Abstract: Signatures, as one of the behavioral human characteristics are generally recognized as legal means for verifying an individual's identity by administrative and financial institutions. A signature is developed by a person and it can change over time. Signatures are prone to influences by age, physical and mental conditions. In this study tremulous signatures including questioned and standards related to 50 real cases resolved by National Forensic Science Laboratory of Nepal were collected. The time interval between questioned and standard signatures was up to ten years. Sixteen major characteristics along with their forty-one sub characteristics of each case were studied. Among sixteen major characteristics in the tremulous signatures, study shows that the characteristics like the style of writing in hand printed form, pen pauses, medium pen pressure, poor line quality, pen lifts are most prominently observed. Tremors were absent mostly in the terminal strokes of letters. The letters written were varied in size and those were 6% small, 70% medium and 24% large. Interestingly no any retouch attempts were found to complete the shape of letters.

Abstract: Introduction: Family planning services can bring a wide range of benefits to women, their families and society as a whole. Many women of reproductive age have little or incorrect information about family planning methods. Even when they know some methods of contraceptives, they don’t know the availability or how to use them properly. The aim of this study is to find out the prevalence of contraception use among women visiting the outpatient department of gynaecology of a tertiary care centre. Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted among women visiting the gynaecological outpatient department from 10 April 2021 to 10 April 2022 after taking ethical approval from the Institutional review committee (Reference number: 2079/80-03). Women aged 18 to 49 years visiting during the study period were included and pregnant, postmenopausal and unmarried women were excluded from the study. Data was collected from one-to-one interviews. A convenience sampling method was used. Point estimate and 95% confidence interval were calculated. Results: Out of 208 patients, 146 (70.19%) (63.97-76.41, 95% Confidence Interval) women were currently using contraceptives. Short-acting reversible contraception was used by 97 (66.44%) and long-acting reversible contraception was used by 23 (15.75%). A total of 21 (14.38%) women used permanent sterilisation. The most commonly used contraceptive device was Depo Provera, 43 (29.45%) followed by condoms, 29 (19.86%). Conclusions: The prevalence of contraception use is lower than the other studies done in similar settings. Therefore, contraception promotion programs have to be encouraged to promote the efficient use of contraception.
