Abstract: Neon (Ne) seeding is used to cool the edge plasma by radiation to protect the divertor tungsten (W) target in the Experimental Advanced Superconducting Tokamak (EAST). The W sputtering in the outer divertor target with Ne seeding is assessed by the divertor visible spectroscopy system. It is observed that the W sputtering flux initially increases with Ne concentration in the divertor despite the decreasing plasma temperature. After reaching a maximum around 25 eV, the W sputtering rate starts to decrease, presenting a suppression effect. The effect on the divertor W sputtering flux and yield due to the competition between the increase of the Ne concentration and the decrease of the plasma temperature is discussed. The results show that enough Ne seeding is essential to effectively reduce the electron temperature and thus to suppress W sputtering. Moreover, ELM suppression is observed when Ne and W impurities enter the core plasma, which could be correlated to the enhanced turbulence transport in the pedestal.

Abstract: The exhaust of excessively high heat and particle fluxes on the divertor target is crucial for EAST long-pulse operation. In the recent EAST experiments, stable partial energy detachment around the upper outer strike point with H 98,y2 ∼ 1 was achieved with either Ne or Ar seeding from the upper outer divetor target in the upper single null configuration with ITER-like tungsten divertor. With either Ar or Ne seeding, the electron temperature around the upper outer strike point ( T et,UOSP ) was maintained at around 5 eV, the peak temperature of divertor target surface around the upper outer strike point ( T div,UO ) decreased significantly, and material sputtering was well suppressed. It was observed that there was less Ar seeding needed for partial energy detachment onset than Ne seeding, which shows that Ar is more efficient in the cooling of T et on the upper outer divertor than Ne. However, there was no detachment on the upper inner divertor with T et around strike point ( T et,UISP ) remaining 〉 10 eV with either Ar or Ne seeding from the upper outer divertor. Accompanied with the disappearance of double peak phenomenon of ion flux density on the upper inner divertor target ( j s,UI ), the peak T div,UI around the strike point increased to around 300 °C. Although the heat flux on the upper inner divertor target ( q t,UI ) is still in the acceptable level, either Ar or Ne seeding only from the upper outer divertor target is not enough to protect the upper inner divertor target from sputtering under current EAST conditions. On the other hand, Ar seeding always causes confinement degradation in the partial energy detachment state. It was observed that there is a slight confinement improvement (∼10%) with Ne seeding, which may be due to density peaking, dilution effects and stabilization of the ion temperature gradient mode.

Abstract: Tungsten (W) transport and screening in the edge plasma are investigated for EAST high dissipative divertor conditions. By combining the 1D impurity fluid model (1DImpFM) and the two-point model formatting (2PMF), W screening is proved to be enhanced for high upstream plasma density conditions, mainly because the impurity temperature gradient velocity decreases with the increase of the upstream plasma density. Based on dedicated EAST density ramp-up experiments, 2D simulations of W erosion and transport are carried out for different levels of dissipative divertor conditions by using the SOLPS-DIVIMP code package, and the modeling results are benchmarked with the 1DImpFM analytic model. The prompt-redeposition, the divertor screening, and the main SOL screening are quantitatively analyzed. For detached divertor conditions, the increase in the W ionization length reduces the prompt redeposition rate, but both the divertor screening and SOL screening are reinforced. The 1DImpFM can interpret well the W leakage in the near separatrix region; however, the 2D simulations suggest that the impurity pressure gradient force which is neglected by the 1DImpFM plays an important role, especially in the far-SOL region. With the divertor condition varied from the high-recycling regime to the deep detachment regime, the W source moves from the near strike point region to the far SOL, and thus makes the W transport in the far SOL more important. Therefore, the impurity pressure gradient force cannot be neglected for edge W transport analysis, especially for the detached divertor conditions.

Abstract: Coffee is a favorite beverage worldwide, and its unique ability to keep people awake and energized has dramatically increased the sales volume. Its high popularity has led to a considerable investment market. Therefore, whether the coffee industry is worth investing in and how to evaluate it has become one of the most critical research classes today. Based on previous investigations, most investment evaluations of the coffee industry have focused on companies in the same geographic area. However, there is a research gap in whether the international coffee industry is worth investing in. On this basis, this study will analyze whether the coffee industry is worth investing in by collecting data on stock prices and financial reports as well as calculate WACC values and compare them using the data. According to the analysis, the WACC values of all three companies selected are generally high, which means that the investment risk is high. It is indicated that the coffee industry is not worth investing in nowadays because of the high risk and high cost. These results shed light on guiding further exploration of how to do the right choice of investment in the coffee market.

Abstract: Since the COVID-19 pandemic broke out in 2019, neuroticism has been proven a predictor of fear of COVID-19 infection. However, only few studies have been conducted on the factors affecting the relationship between neuroticism and this kind of fear. The present study is aimed at analyzing the role intolerance of uncertainty (IU) and sense of control (SOC) play in relation to neuroticism and the fear of COVID-19. We conducted a cross-sectional study in Guangdong and Guangxi provinces, China, and we collected complete datasets from 792 high school students. The main results can be described as follows: (a) individuals with high neuroticism tended to have higher intolerance of uncertainty (IU) and a lower sense of control (SOC); (b) IU and SOC played a mediating role between neuroticism and fear of COVID-19, and a serial mediation effect was found between these factors; (c) after controlling for both IU and SOC, the effect of neuroticism on fear was no longer significant. The results suggested a critical role of IU and sense of control in the causal relationship between neuroticism and fear.

Abstract: To investigate the optimal scenario of impurity seeding to obtain divertor plasma detachment for target protection, experiments with Ar & D 2 seeding from two different poloidal locations, the upper outer (UO) divertor target and lower outer (LO) target, were carried out on EAST. Partial energy detachment (the electron temperature near the strike point T e,spt ⩽ 10 eV) were obtained with Ar & D 2 mixture puffing from the UO target and, for the first time, from the LO target into H-mode plasmas in the upper single null (USN) configuration. The peak heat flux q t on the UO target was significantly reduced (by ∼80%). The rollover of ion flux density j s did not appear probably due to insufficient momentum loss, which is independent of the puff locations. The poloidal asymmetries of particle and heat fluxes on the targets have also been investigated. The UO-dominant asymmetry of particle flux was reversed, while the UO-dominant asymmetry of heat flux was mitigated but not reversed. The plasma confinement dropped by only 14% and 8.2% in the LO-puff case and UO-puff case, respectively, during detachment. The high level of C may contributed greatly to the higher radiation in the bulk plasma region and the greater decline in W MHD in the LO-puff case.

Abstract: Lithium Beam Emission Spectroscopy systems in the outer midplane and divertor Langmuir probe arrays embedded in the divertor target plates, are utilized to investigate the scrape-off layer (SOL) blob transition and its relation with divertor detachment on EAST. The blob transition in the near SOL is observed during the density ramp-up phase. When the plasma density, normalized to the Greenwald density limit, exceeds a threshold of f GW  ∼ 0.5, the blob size and lifetime increases by 2 – 3 times, while the blob detection rate decreases by about 2 times. In addition, a weak density shoulder is observed in the near SOL region at the same density threshold. Further analysis indicates that the divertor detachment is highly correlated with the blob transition, and the density threshold of blob transition is consistent with that of the access to the outer divertor detachment. The potential physical mechanisms are discussed. These results could be useful for the understanding of plasma-wall interaction issues in future devices that will operate under a detached divertor and high density conditions (over the blob transition threshold).

Abstract: A major challenge facing the steady-state operation of tokamak fusion reactors is to develop a viable divertor solution with order-of-magnitude increase in power handling capability as compared with present experience. A recently developed divertor concept for this end has been tested recently on EAST tokamak through combining the effects of a closed divertor corner and E   ×  B drifts. The E   ×  B drifts in the divertor move particles towards the outer divertor corner area in the scrape-off layer for B × ∇ B directed away from the divertor, which can significantly enhance the particle concentration there, facilitating divertor detachment. In recent EAST experiments, the effects have been demonstrated where the lowest electron temperature at the divertor plate is obtained with strike point located close to the corner in the horizontal target and with B × ∇ B away from the divertor. These experimental results are in reasonable agreement with SOLPS-ITER simulations including drift effects, suggesting that the new divertor concept potentially provides a promising divertor solution for long-pulse operations of future tokamak fusion reactors with much higher power fluxes.
