Abstract: Introduction: Diabetes is a chronic disease that causes dysfunction of various organs and tissues resulting in end organ damage and premature mortality. Oxidative stress is a main factor of diabetic complications. There is a need for the development of safer therapeutic agents for diabetes, due to the adverse effects of conventional drugs. L-carnosine is a dipeptide synthesised by the body from β-alanine and L-histidine. It is reported to have heavy metal chelating, pH buffering, anti-inflammatory property and neuroprotective effect making it a prospective drug target for chronic diseases like diabetes. The antidiabetic property of L-carnosine and its free radical scavenging potential have not yet been fully explored. Aim: To evaluate the in-vitro antidiabetic and antioxidant activities of L-carnosine. Materials and Methods: The present in-vitro study was conducted in the Department of Pharmacology at Sri Ramachandra Medical College and Research Institute, Porur, Chennai, India. The duration of the study was one month, done in December 2020. The in-vitro antidiabetic property of L-carnosine was evaluated using α-glucosidase and α-amylase inhibition. About 20, 40, 60, 80, 100 μg/mL concentrations of L-carnosine and acarbose were used for the study wherein, acarbose was used as the standard. The absorbance values were taken in spectrophotometer at 405 nm and 540 nm for α-amylase and α-glucosidase enzyme, respectively. Further, the antioxidant activity of L-carnosine was determined at the same concentrations using 2,20-azino-bis (3-ethylbenzthiazoline6-sulfonic acid) (ABTS) assay with Butylated Hydroxytoluene (BHT) as standard. The spectrophotometric absorbance was read at 734 nm. The data analysed were presented as percentage inhibition. The percentages of enzyme inhibition for various concentrations were compared between the standard and L-carnosine. Results: The inhibitory percentages for α-glucosidase enzyme at concentrations of 20,40,60,80 and 100 μg/mL of L-carnosine were 28.61%, 36.01%, 45.33%, 53.05%, 62.70% respectively. The percentages for α-amylase inhibition at concentrations of 20, 40, 60, 80 and 100 μg/mL were 18.18%, 31.81%, 45.45%, 59.09% and 72.12%, respectively. The free radical scavenging activity by ABTS assay for 20, 40, 60, 80 and 100 μg/mL concentrations of L-carnosine were 34.40%, 36.65%, 38.04%, 40.51% and 43.30%, respectively. L-carnosine exhibited significant inhibition of α-glucosidase and α-amylase enzyme in dose-dependent manner. The result of the ABTS assay showed that L-carnosine possessed significant free radical scavenging property in a concentration-dependent manner. Conclusion: Results showed L-carnosine had considerable α-glucosidase inhibitory activity, α-amylase inhibitory activity, as well as, ABTS radical scavenging activity. The present findings indicate that, L-carnosine has in-vitro antidiabetic and antioxidant activity. Hence, the present study supports further evaluation and use of L-carnosine for the management of diabetes and as an antioxidant in nutraceuticals.

Abstract: Aim: To evaluate the effectiveness of meditation lowers stress and supports forgiveness among nursing Students.Participants and setting: The study was conducted by adopting a Quasi-experimental, non-equivalent control group pre and post test design.50 nursing students who fulfilled the inclusion criteria were selected by using Non-probability purposive sampling technique. 50 women were assigned in experimental and control group. The study was conducted in Bhavana College of nursing, Nalgonda, Telugana, India.Intervention: A brief introduction about self and study was given to the nursing students and consent was obtained (both oral and written) and the confidentiality of the response was assured. Pre assessment was done in both experimental and control groups. In the experimental group meditation technique was practiced by the women and pre and post test level of stress was obtained using John D. Catherine & T. Mac Arthurs perceived stress scale. In the control group without any intervention, the pre and post test level of stress was obtained for both the groups and the level of stress was assessed.Measurement and findings: Analysis revealed that the women in the experimental group showed a highly significant decrease in the level of stress following meditation at P 〈 0.001 level when compared with the control group. Conclusion: Evidence suggests that meditation-based stress-management practices reduce stress and enhance forgiveness among college undergraduates. Such programs merit further study as potential health-promotion tools for college populations.

Abstract: Aim: To evaluate the effectiveness of birth bal therapy in terms of level of pain perception and birth experience among primi gravida mothers.Participants and setting: The study was conducted in Nirmala Hospital, in Suryapet, Telugana, India in with 700 annual births. The primi gravida mothers were recruited and were allocated by non-probability purposive sampling technique into the two arms of the study, but only 20 in study and 20 in control group participants.Intervention: The study group received birth ball therapy was done using discomfort can often be helped by body positions that allow gravity to speed dilation, such as walking, squatting, kneeling forward on a chair or sitting on the birthing ball. The birth ball therapy was given by investigator for 20 minutes again the same step is repeated in a 10 minutes interval. Measurement and findings: In active stage of labour (3-6 cm of cervical dilatation) the women completed the demographic and obstetrical information and pain was measured by 0- 10 Modified combined numerical categorical pain intensity scale and labour outcome assessed by labour agentry scale(LAS). This study revealed that there was high significant difference found in pain at p 〈 0.001level between study and control group. Conclusion: The study concluded that, clinical implementation of birth ball therapy usage during labour could be an effective non pharmacological intervention in reducing pain perception.

Abstract: Objective: The aim of this study is to prepare silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) and nanorods using polyol under microwave heating method. Methods: The synthesized nanoparticles were characterized using UV-visible, infrared spectral studies (Fourier-transform infrared [FTIR]), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Finally, the antibacterial activity of polyethylene glycol (PEG) protected AgNPs, against a series of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, was studied. Results: From UV-visible spectroscopy studies, the growth rate of AgNPs was confirmed by measuring the change in absorbance of plasmon peak shape at different time intervals. FTIR spectroscopy studies showed the changes in the metal and the capping agents. SEM and TEM images revealed that very stable colloidal solutions of AgNPs with almost spherical and rod shape along with high monodispersity can be obtained with PEG protected AgNPs. Finally, the antibacterial activity of PEG protected AgNPs was investigated, which showed a synergistic role for the AgNPs along with vancomycin. Conclusion: Uniform and stable polymer protected AgNPs were synthesized using ethylene glycol, triethylene glycol, and PEG as reducing agent in the presence of polyvinylpyrrolidone.

Abstract: Solid waste management is still a big issue in cities, causing considerable health and environmental problems. Trash cans are strategically distributed across the city to handle solid waste. These containers have the potential to overflow, contaminating the environment and creating trouble for people. A real-time remote monitoring system that informs a waste management firm or the relevant authorities of the level of rubbish in trash bins is required. The proposed system describes the creation and validation of a self-powered, LoRaIoT-enabled Smart Trash Bin Level Monitoring System for effective solid waste management (IoT-STBLMS). Smart Trash Bin Level Measurement Unit (STBLMU) monitors the unfilled level and geographical position of a trash bin, then analyses and communicates the data to a cloud platform using the MQTT protocol. A dashboard allows users to examine and evaluate the status of each bin as well as its geo-location. The designed system's accuracy, average current consumption and life expectancy, battery charging time, and cost were investigated and published here.
