Abstract: A new species of Rubiaceae, Spiradiclis detianensis is described from a limestone karst area of southwestern China. This new species is morphologically similar to S. cordata and S. spathulata . All of them have rosetted habit and long peduncles, but it differs from the former by the cuneate leaf bases (vs. basally cordate) and much longer corolla tubes (1.8–2.2 cm long vs. ca. 5 mm long), and from the latter mainly by its tubular-funnel shaped corolla (vs. slenderly salver shaped), 4.5–6.8 (vs. 1.5–2) mm in diam, inside throat and corolla densely puberulent (vs. glabrous except a ring of long hairs at the middle). It also resembles to S. tubiflora , but differs clearly by its subrosulate habit (vs. procumbent to creeping), longer leaf blades (7.0–10.5 cm vs. 0.5–2.5 cm) and longer corolla tubes (18–22 mm vs. 14–16 mm). At same time, color photos, illustrations, detailed descriptions and conservation status of the new species are provided.

Abstract: Excellent silicided shallow p + n junctions have been successfully achieved by the implantation of BF 2 + ions into thin Pd films on a Si substrate to a dose of 5×10 15 cm -2 and subsequent low-temperature (as low as 500° C) furnace annealing. The formed junctions have been characterized for the respective implantation conditions. In this experiment, the implant energy plays the key role in obtaining a low leakage diode. Reverse current density of about 1 nA/cm 2 and the ideality factor of about 1.03 can be attained by the implantation of BF 2 + ions at 100 keV and subsequent annealing at 600° C. The junction depth is about 0.08 µm, measured by the spread resistance method. As compared with the results of unimplanted specimens, the implantation of BF 2 + ions into a thin Pd layer can stabilize the Pd silicide film and prevent it from forming islands during high-temperature annealing. High-temperature stability of palladium silicides and the leakage current mechanism are also discussed in this report.

Abstract: 〈p〉There is a high mortality rate for infants with visceral perforations. Clinical imaging of this condition includes free air in the abdomen with abdominal plain radiography or lateral decubitus radiographs. An important disease that is easily ignored in the perinatal period is meconium plug syndrome, which causes functional obstruction in the colon that leads to dilated bowel loops in abdominal plain radiography. We report a female newborn who had a suspected bowel obstruction during prenatal examination because of polyhydramnios. The initial plain abdominal film showed a large volume of air accumulation in the peritoneum. An emergent exploratory laparotomy was performed and it revealed that there was no free a3 ir nor ascites in the peritoneal cavity. The proximal small bowel was severely dilated and a meconium plug at the splenic flexure was found. The image of air in the patient’s small bowel and peritoneal cavity in the anterior–posterior view and image of the left decubitus view of the abdomen were similar in this case to the degree that the clinicians could not differentiate them, leading to an unnecessary exploration laparotomy.〈/p〉 〈p〉 〈/p〉

Abstract: Nowadays, with the development of information media, people can easily obtain information through the Internet, TV, and social media. However, the media are often full of exaggerated and false advertisements for medicines and healthy food, which induce people to spend money on products. It may have adverse effects on public health. The purpose of this study is to understand the current situation of general public's self-medication, medication knowledge and medication behavior, and to analyze the influence of public self-medication on medication behavior. The subjects of the survey were 300 people living in the Greater Taipei area, and convenience sampling was used. The study found that there are significant correlations between self-medication, medication knowledge and medication behavior. It is suggested that the government should continue to carry out various promotional activities on self-medication, medication knowledge and medication behavior, and integrate them into mass media.

Abstract: Observational studies have shown that sleep pattern is associated with age-related macular degeneration (AMD), but whether sleep pattern is a causal factor for AMD remains unclear. This study aims to use Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis to investigate the potential causal relationship between sleep traits and AMD. Methods This is a two-sample MR study. The single-nucleotide polymorphisms associated with AMD and early AMD were selected as the outcome from two different genome-wide association studies (GWAS): the early AMD GWAS with 14,034 cases and 91,214 controls, and AMD GWAS with 3,553 cases and 147,089 controls. The datasets of sleep duration, daytime dozing, and sleeplessness were used as exposure, which comprised nearly 0.46 million participants. Inverse-variance weighted method was used as the main result, and comprehensive sensitivity analyses were conducted to estimate the robustness of identified associations and the impact of potential horizontal pleiotropy. Results Through MR analysis, we found that sleep duration was significantly associated with AMD (OR = 0.983, 95% CI = 0.970–0.996, P -value = 0.01). We also found suggestive evidence for the association of genetically predicted sleep duration with early AMD, which showed a consistent direction of effect with a marginal significance (OR = 0.724, 95% CI = 0.503–1.041, P -value = 0.08). Sensitivity analyses further supported the robustness of the causal relationship between sleep duration and AMD. However, we were unable to determine the relationship between daytime dozing or sleeplessness and AMD (including early AMD) ( P -value & gt; 0.05). Conclusion Sleep duration affects the causal risk for AMD; that is, longer sleep duration reduces the risk of AMD, while shorter sleep duration increases the risk of AMD. Although the influence is minimal, keeping adequate sleep duration is recommended, especially for patients with intermediate or advanced AMD.

Abstract: People’s attitudes towards vaccines and beliefs about infectious disease prevention are closely related to the design and effectiveness of prevention strategies. This study explores Taiwanese people’s views on COVID-19 vaccines, beliefs about infectious disease prevention, and people's acceptance of vaccinations extent and influencing factors. This study is mainly aimed at the people in the Greater Taipei area as the research subject. The convenience sampling method is used to investigate the willingness of the people to receive the new coronary pneumonia vaccine. The relevant data is collected through the google online questionnaire. The study found that people’s attitudes, subjective norms, perceived behavioral control and behavioral intentions, social trust, health awareness, and expected emotions towards vaccination against COVID-19 were partially significant due to demographic variables. People’s attitudes, subjective norms, and perceived behavioral control have positive effects on behavioral intentions.

Abstract: Obese children are more prone to becoming obese adults, and excess adiposity consequently increases the risk of many complications, such as metabolic syndromes, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, cardiovascular disease, etc. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of multi-strain probiotics on the gut microbiota and weight control in obese children. Methods A double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled trial was carried out on overweight and obese children. Subjects received 12 weeks of treatment with supplementary probiotics that contained three strains: Lactobacillus salivarius AP-32, L. rhamnosus bv-77, and Bifidobacterium animalis CP-9, plus diet and exercise guidance. A total of 82 children were enrolled, and 53 children completed the study. Results The supplementation of multi-strain probiotics resulted in a significant effect demonstrating high-density lipoprotein (HDL) and adiponectin elevation. At the same time, body mass index (BMI) and serum total cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein (LDL), leptin, and tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α) levels were reduced. Lactobacillus spp. and B. animalis were particularly increased in subjects who received probiotic supplements. The abundance of Lactobacillus spp. was inversely correlated with the ether lipid metabolism pathway, while that of B. animalis was positively correlated with serum adiponectin levels. Conclusion Our results show that obesity-related gut dysbiosis can be reshaped by the supplementation of a multi-strain probiotic to improve lipid metabolism. The regular administration of a multi-strain probiotic supplement may be helpful for weight control and health management in overweight and obese children.
