Abstract: Solid-liquid composite lubrication system has attracted an increased interest for low friction and wear. Nevertheless, the effect of mechanical and surface properties of the solid materials, especially the mechanical and surface properties governed by doping elements, on the tribological performance solid-liquid composite lubrication system is still not well comprehended. Here, we reported the effect of W content on the mechanical and surface properties of W-DLC coatings as well as the tribological properties of W-DLC coatings under (choline chloride-urea and choline chloride-thiourea) deep eutectic solvents lubrication. Although the wear of W-DLC coatings under dry friction increases with W content, the wear under DESs is slight when coatings show excellent wettability to DESs or a DES-derived tribochemical film is formed. We demonstrate that the tribological behavior of W-DLC and DESs composite lubrication system is related to the mechanical properties of W-DLC coatings together with the contact angle and tribochemical interaction between DESs and W-DLC coatings.

Abstract: The Back-n white neutron source at the China Spallation Neutron Source (CSNS) provides neutrons in the continuous energy region from 0.5 eV to 200 MeV. A spectrometer named Light charged Particle Detector Array (LPDA) is designed for the study of (n, lcp) reactions at Back-n. The main detector of the LPDA spectrometer, a 16-unit Δ E -Δ E - E telescope array, is composed of two arrays of 8-unit Δ E -Δ E - E   telescope. Each telescope unit consists of a Low-Pressure Multi-Wire Proportional Chamber (LPMWPC), a Si-PIN detector, and a CsI(Tl) scintillator detector. In 2021, a neutron-proton ( n - p ) scattering reaction cross-section measurement experiment was accomplished as the first experiment of the telescope array. Protons can be clearly identified in the Δ E - E spectrum (LPMWPC + Si-PIN) and the Δ E - E spectrum (Si-PIN + CsI(Tl)). Cross sections of the n - p scattering reaction in the neutron energy range of several MeV are extracted. The Δ E - E method also provides new measurement opportunities for many-body neutron induced light charged-particle emission reactions.

Abstract: Differential and angle-integrated cross sections for the 10 B( n , α ) 7 Li, 10 B( n , α 0 ) 7 Li and 10 B( n , α 1 ) 7 Li * reactions have been measured at CSNS Back- n white neutron source. Two enriched (90%) 10 B samples 5.0 cm in diameter and ~85.0 μg/cm 2 in thickness each with an aluminum backing were prepared, and back-to-back mounted at the sample holder. The charged particles were detected using the silicon-detector array of the Light-charged Particle Detector Array (LPDA) system. The neutron energy E n was determined by TOF (time-of-flight) method, and the valid α events were extracted from the E n -Amplitude two-dimensional spectrum. With 15 silicon detectors, the differential cross sections of α -particles were measured from 19.2° to 160.8°. Fitted with the Legendre polynomial series, the ( n , α ) cross sections were obtained through integration. The absolute cross sections were normalized using the standard cross sections of the 10 B( n , α ) 7 Li reaction in the 0.3 – 0.5 MeV neutron energy region. The measurement neutron energy range for the 10 B( n , α ) 7 Li reaction is 1.0 eV≤ E n 〈 2.5 MeV (67 energy points), and that for the 10 B( n , α 0 ) 7 Li and 10 B( n , α 1 ) 7 Li * reactions is 1.0 eV ≤ E n 〈 1.0 MeV (59 energy points). The present results have been analyzed by the resonance reaction mechanism and the level structure of the 11 B compound system, and compared with existing measurements and evaluations.

Abstract: The Back-n white neutron source (known as Back-n) is based on back-streaming neutrons from the spallation target at the China Spallation Neutron Source (CSNS). With its excellent beam properties, e.g., a neutron flux of approximately 1.8×10 7 n/cm 2 /s at 55 m from the spallation target, energy range spanning from 0.5 eV to 200 MeV, and time-of-flight resolution of a few per thousand, along with the equipped physical spectrometers, Back-n is considered to be among the best facilities in the world for carrying out nuclear data measurements. Since its completion and commencement of operation in May 2018, five types of cross-section measurements concerning neutron capture cross-sections, fission cross-sections, total cross-sections, light charged particle emissions, in-beam gamma spectra, and more than forty nuclides have been measured. This article presents an overview of the experimental setup and result analysis on the neutron-induced cross-section measurements and gamma spectroscopy at Back-n in the initial years.

Abstract: Human adenoviruses (HAdV) infection caused pneumonia remains a major threat to global children health. Currently, diagnosis of severe HAdV pneumonia in children is hampered by the lack of specific biomarkers. Also, the severity of adenovirus pneumonia in pediatric patients is generally based on clinical features and existing biomarkers do not reliably correlate to clinical severity. Here, we asked whether local and systemic inflammatory mediators could act as biomarkers predicting severe HAdV pneumonia in children. Methods Totally 37 common inflammatory protein levels were determined by Luminex assay in plasma and bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) from pediatric patients who were diagnosed with HAdV pneumonia, and their correlation with the disease severity and lung lesion were assessed using statistical and bioinformatic analysis. Results Among 37 inflammatory cytokines, the protein levels of 4 TNF superfamily (TNFSF) members and their receptors (TNF receptor superfamily, TNFRSF) [TNFSF13B, TNFSF14, sTNF-R1 and sTNF-R2] in the plasma and 7 TNFSF/TNFRSF members [TNFSF12, TNFSF13, TNFSF13B, TNFSF14, TNFRSF8, sTNF-R1, and sTNF-R2] in the BAL were enhanced in patients with HAdV pneumonia compared with control subjects with airway foreign body. Moreover, the protein levels of all the tested TNFSF/TNFRSF members (except TNFSF12) were elevated in the BAL of severe group compared with non-severe HAdV pneumonia patients, while only TNFSF13B and TNFSF14 were dramatically increased in the plasma of severe cases, and positively related to the plasma CRP levels. In addition, ROC analysis indicated that TNFSF13B and TNFSF14 displayed a great potential to predict severe HAdV pneumonia. Conclusion In pediatric HAdV pneumonia, TNFSF/TNFRSF members function as key molecules in local and systemic inflammatory network, and the plasma TNFSF13B and TNFSF14 may be the potential local and systemic inflammatory indicators of severe HAdV pneumonia in pediatric patients.

Abstract: Human adenovirus (HAdV) is a common respiratory virus, which can lead to severe pneumonia in children and immunocompromised persons, and canonical inflammasomes are reported to be involved in anti-HAdV defense. However, whether HAdV induced noncanonical inflammasome activation has not been explored. This study aims to explore the broad roles of noncanonical inflammasomes during HAdV infection to investigate the regulatory mechanism of HAdV-induced pulmonary inflammatory damage. Methods We mined available data on GEO database and collected clinical samples from adenovirus pneumonia pediatric patients to investigate the expression of noncanonical inflammasome and its clinical relevance. An in vitro cell model was employed to investigate the roles of noncanonical inflammasomes in macrophages in response to HAdV infection. Results Bioinformatics analysis showed that inflammasome-related genes, including caspase-4 and caspase-5, were enriched in adenovirus pneumonia. Moreover, caspase-4 and caspase-5 expression levels were significantly increased in the cells isolated from peripheral blood and broncho-alveolar lavage fluid (BALF) of pediatric patients with adenovirus pneumonia, and positively correlated with clinical parameters of inflammatory damage. In vitro experiments revealed that HAdV infection promoted caspase-4/5 expression, activation and pyroptosis in differentiated THP-1 (dTHP-1) human macrophages via NF-κB, rather than STING signaling pathway. Interestingly, silencing of caspase-4 and caspase-5 in dTHP-1 cells suppressed HAdV-induced noncanonical inflammasome activation and macrophage pyroptosis, and dramatically decreased the HAdV titer in cell supernatants, by influencing virus release rather than other stages of virus life cycle. Discussion In conclusion, our study demonstrated that HAdV infection induced macrophage pyroptosis by triggering noncanonical inflammasome activation via a NF-kB-dependent manner, which may explore new perspectives on the pathogenesis of HAdV-induced inflammatory damage. And high expression levels of caspase-4 and caspase-5 may be a biomarker for predicting the severity of adenovirus pneumonia.

Abstract: The angle-differential cross sections of neutron-induced deuteron production from carbon were measured at six neutron energies from 25 to 52 MeV relative to those of n - p elastic scattering at the China Spallation Neutron Source (CSNS) Back-n white neutron source. By employing the Δ E - E telescopes of the Light-charged Particle Detector Array (LPDA) system at 15.1° to 55.0° in the laboratory system, ratios of the angle-differential cross sections of the 12 C( n , xd ) reactions to those of the n - p scattering were measured, and then, the angle-differential cross sections of the 12 C( n , xd ) reactions were obtained using the angle-differential cross sections of the n - p elastic scattering from the JENDL-4.0/HE-2015 library as the standard. The obtained results are compared with data from previous measurements, all of which are based on mono-energic neutrons, the evaluated data from the JENDL-4.0/ HE-2015 library and the ENDF-B/VIII.0 library, and those from theoretical calculations based on INCA code and Talys-1.9 code. Being the first white-neutron-source-based systematic measurement of the angle-differential cross sections of neutron-induced deuteron production reactions on carbon in several tens of MeV, the present work can provide a reference to the data library considering the lack of experimental data.

Abstract: Assisted reproductive technology (ART) has been linked to cholesterol metabolic and respiratory disorders later in life, but the mechanisms by which biosynthetic signaling remain unclear. Lung inflammatory diseases are tightly linked with the sterol regulatory element-binding protein (SREBP) and SREBP cleavage-activating protein (SCAP), but this has not been shown in an ART offspring. Here, mouse models from a young to old age were established including in vitro fertilization (IVF), intracytoplasmic injection (ICSI), and in vivo fertilized groups. In our results, significantly higher plasma levels of CRP, IgM, and IgG were identified in the aged ICSI mice. Additionally, pulmonary inflammation was found in four aged ART mice. At three weeks, ART mice showed significantly downregulated levels of Scap , Srebp-1a , Srebp-1c , and Srebf2 mRNA in the lung. At the same time, significant differences in the DNA methylation rates of Scap - Srebfs and protein expression of nuclear forms of SREBPs (nSREBPs) were detected in the ART groups. Only abnormalities in the expression levels of Srebp-1a and Srebp-1c mRNA and nSREBP1 protein were found in the ART groups at 10 weeks. However, at 1.5 years old, aberrant expression levels and DNA methylation of SCAP, SREBP1, and SREBP2, and their associated target genes, were observed in the lung of the ART groups. Our results indicate that ART increases long-term alterations in SCAP/SREBP expression that may be associated with their aberrant methylation status in mouse.
