Abstract: In recent years, the free-piston linear engine (FPLE) has attracted increasing interest from researchers worldwide. With the development of computer control technology, internal combustion engine technology, and material science, there have been significant advances in the aspects of FPLE simulation, experimental techniques, as well as systems FPLE control. This paper presents a model of a two-stroke, spark-ignition free-piston engine converted from two small two-stroke engines. It has a bore size of 34 mm and a maximum stroke of 28 mm. The linear engine uses gasoline fuel that is available on the market. The purposes of the research show a model of the starting system, investigation the effects of spark timing, and effective pressure. A premixed air-fuel charge is conducted by a carburetor then it is directly supplied into each cylinder. The spark timing was varied at 1 mm and 2 mm away from the maximum top dead center with the speed starting at 10 Hz. The model successfully ignited with a maximum pressure of 7.5 kg/cm2 at the ignition of 1 mm before top dead center (TDC) and 9.5 kg/cm2 at the ignition of 2 mm before TDC. The research has completed the initial intentions such as a theoretical investigation, calculation, determination of the engine model, and starting mechanism. Preliminary results have confirmed the feasibility of proposing the FPLE model.

Abstract: Groundwater potential assessment is essential for optimum utilization and recharge of groundwater resources for the proper development and management of an area. The main aim of this study is to develop an accurate groundwater potential map of the Dak Nong Province (Vietnam) using hybrid artificial intelligence models, which are a combination of Random Forest (RF) and its Ensemble Framework (AdaBoost - ABRF, Bagging - BRF and LogitBoost - LBRF). In this study, twelve conditioning factors, namely topography (aspect, elevation, Topographic Wetness Index - TWI, slope, and curvature), hydrology (infiltration and river density, rainfall, Sediment Transport Index - STI, Stream Power Index - SPI), land use, and soil were used to develop the models. Well, yield data was also utilized to develop and validate potential groundwater zones. One Rule (R) feature selection method was utilized to prioritize the importance of groundwater potential affecting parameters. The results indicated that the Average Merit (AM) of the rainfall factor was the highest (68.039), and river density was the lowest (53,969). Performance evaluation of ML models was done using standard statistical indicators, including Area Under the Receiver Operating Characteristic (ROC) curve (AUC). The results showed that all the four models performed well in the training (AUC ≥ 0.967) and testing (AUC ≥ 0.734) phases, but the performance of the ABRF (AUC=0.992) model is the best in the training phase, whereas LBRF is the best in the testing phase (AUC=0.776). The present model study would be helpful in the proper groundwater potential assessment and management of groundwater resources for sustainable development.

Abstract: Shallow landslides through land degrading not only lead to threat the properly and life of human but they also may produce huge ecosystem damages. The aim of this study was to compare the performance of two decision tree machine learning algorithms including classification and regression tree (CART) and reduced error pruning tree (REPTree) for shallow landslide susceptibility mapping in Bijar, Kurdistan province, Iran. We first used 20 conditioning factors and then they were tested by information gain ratio (IGR) technique to select the most important ones. We then constructed a geodatabase based on the selected factors along with a total of 111 landslide locations with a ratio of 80/20 (for calibration/validation). The performance of the models was checked by the true positive rate (TP Rate), false positive rate (FP Rate), precision, recall, F1-Measure, Kappa, mean absolute error, and area under the receiver operatic curve (AUC). Results of IGR specified that the slope angle and TWI had the most contribution to shallow landslide occurrence in the study area. Moreover, results concluded that although these models had a high goodness-of-fit and prediction accuracy, the CART model (AUC=0.856) outperformed the REPTree model (AUC=0.837). Therefore, the CART model can be used as a promising tool and also as a base classifier to hybrid with optimization algorithms and Meta classifiers for spatial prediction of shallow landslide-prone areas.

Abstract: The rapid urbanization increases the impermeable surface that leads to reduce the water permeability into the soil, resulting in reducing the infiltration and increasing the surface runoff. This study aims to extract the impermeable surface using Landsat satellite images and to monitor changes in the impervious surface in the period 2015 –2018 in Can Tho city. This study applied the Objectbased Image Analysis (OBIA) method with the Rule-based Image Analysis algorithm on Landsat 8 fusion data with multispectral images and spatial resolution of 15 m in the period 2015 – 2018 using impermeable surface extraction indicators. Impermeable surface map in 2015 and 2018 with high accuracy assessment (T = 95.5% and K = 0.91, 2015; T = 94% and K = 0.88, in 2018) was established and the fluctuation of the impermeable surface increased from 13,746.6 ha (9.55%) to 19,966.67 ha (13.87%) from 2015 to 2018. The research result indicated the infrastructure development situation and urban construction in Can Tho city during three years increasing of 4.32% of the total natural area in Can Tho city.
