Abstract: Background: Blood is a vital and limited resource with a lifesaving therapeutic benefit. Knowledge of standard transfusion practices to be followed is important in delivering quality transfusion services. The present study aims at assessing the knowledge of transfusion practices among undergraduate medical students, train them, and to assess the impact of this type of training sessions in improving the outcome. Objectives: To evaluate blood transfusion services (BTS) at the main blood banks (BBs) of some Sudan cities as sample to present the situation. The Methods: There were 13 main BBs evaluated according to the World Health Organization BTS standards. Qualitative and quantitative data were collected using semi-structured questionnaires covering 11 components: Personnel training and certification, Equipment, Physical facility, Safety, Pretesting, testing, post testing, appropriate use of blood, Waste management, Documentation and Record and External Quality Assessment(PT, Retesting and Site Supervision). Results: An overall mean percent score for BTS was calculated where 〈 50% is considered unsatisfactory. The 13 BBs in Personnel training and certification there were five satisfying the need 38.5% (5/13), in equipment there was one blood bank accepted 7.7% (1/13), for Physical facility there were 11 blood banks satisfying the need 84.6% (11/13), for Safety there were only 3 blood banks satisfying the need 23% (3/13). For pretesting there were 12 blood banks satisfying the need 92.3% (12/13). For testing there were 4 blood banks satisfying the need 30.8% (4/13). For post testing all blood banks were satisfying the need 100% (13/13). For appropriate use of blood there was only one blood bank satisfying the need. For Waste management all blood banks satisfying the need 100% (13/13). For documentation and Recordthere were two blood banks accepted15.4% (2/13). For External Quality Assessment all blood banks do not satisfying the need 0% (0/13). ......................

Abstract: Background: Burn in children is immediately and potentially life-threating injury. Providing adequate care for burn in children properly is the most important contribution to the successful management. Aim: The present study aimed to evaluate the effect of nursing intervention program on management of burn in children. Design: A quasi- experimental design was used in the current study. Setting: The study was carried out at Burn Units affiliated to Suez Canal University and Ismalia General Hospitals. Sample: A convenience sample of nurses (35) was working at the previous settings and 20 children were suffering from burn injury during the study period. Tools: A structured interview questionnaire and observational checklists to assess nurses' knowledge and practice regarding management of burn in children pre/post nursing intervention program. Results: revealed that, there was a statistically significant improvement in nurses' knowledge and practices post program intervention compared to pre program intervention regarding management of burn in children. Conclusion: The study concluded that, the nursing intervention program improved positively the studied nurses’ knowledge and practices regarding management of burn in children. Recommendation: The study suggested continuous educational program for nurses to update their knowledge and practice regarding management of burn in children.

Abstract: Since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, it has become evident that individuals living with diabetes are at a heightened risk of experiencing severe forms of the disease. As such, a retrospective descriptive study was conducted in 236 diabetic patients who were admitted to the Ibn Sina hospital in Rabat due to COVID-19 infection. The study aimed to provide a comprehensive overview of the clinical, biological, radiological, and evolutionary parameters of diabetic patients infected with COVID-19. This article summarizes the results of the study and compares them with existing literature.

Abstract: Background: It has long been recognized that blood bank institutions have an obligation to not only provide a safe product for patients, but also to protect the health and welfare of their donors and their staff. Quality control procedures are indispensable to en¬sure the reliability of the results provided by labora¬tories responsible for serological screening in blood banks. International recommendations on systems of quality management classify as a top component the inclusion of two types of control: (a) internal quality control (IQC) and (b) external quality control (EQC). Methods: A total of 300 donations were collected and screened for HBV, HCV, syphilis and HIV-1 using the enzyme inked immune sorbent assay. All initially reactive (IR) samples were retested in triplicate and, if repeatedly reactive (RR), consider as reactive. Results: The results showed that the sensitivity and specificity of the QCs in anti-B testing were 100% and 98.7%, respectively. The sensitivity and specificity of the QCs in testing, viral screening were all 99%. Therefore our QC products and methods are highly sensitive, specific, and reliable. Our study paves the way for the establishment of a uniform and standardized QC method for pre-transfusion compatibility testing in Sudan and other parts of the world. Conclusion: The implementation of screening for three viruses has improved blood safety in Sudan.

In: Saudi Journal of Oral and Dental Research, SASPR Edu International Pvt. Ltd, Vol. 8, No. 12 ( 2023-12-01), p. 357-365
Abstract: Background: Dentures are removably inserted dental prosthetics that fill up tooth gaps. There are many types of dentures, including complete, partial and implant-supported dentures. As long-term supports for tooth replacements, dental implants have significantly changed the treatment philosophies of conventional prosthodontics. However, the success and durability of these prosthetic devices may be impacted if a person seeking denture implants has diabetes. Diabetes affects the body in many ways, including the mouth's oral health. Immediate dentures have many benefits, including better oral functions, preservation of lower facial height, preservation of tooth sockets, improvement of aesthetics, and replication of natural teeth's shape, form, and location by artificial teeth. Diabetes mellitus has been reported to be associated strongly with the oral health. The higher glucose microenvironment prolongs healing of tooth extraction sockets. Thus, encouraging the healing of tooth extraction sockets is crucial from a therapeutic perspective for people with diabetes mellitus. Methods: An electronic search of English peer-reviewed dental literature on PubMed, Science Direct and Google Scholar was conducted to identify all publications reporting on how diabetes affect dentures until August 2023. Overall, 977 publications were found through an electronic and manual search, out of which 130 articles were selected after screening based on title and abstract. A total of 52 publications passed the second review phase after assessment for eligibility, from which 24 studies were excluded after full-text screening. Finally, a total of 28 studies were selected. A total of 10 articles were found to match our eligibility criteria to the full and were included in the final systematic review. Conclusion: Diabetes negatively impacts implanted dentures' success and longevity, leading to complications like Candida infection, poor bone integration, peri-implantitis, and compromised healing. Larger clinical trials are needed to understand diabetes's impact on implant therapy outcomes. Clinicians should assess patients' overall health, monitor glycemic control, maintain oral hygiene, and perform regular maintenance for optimal outcomes.
