In: Heavy metals and arsenic concentrations in water, agricultural soil, and rice in Ngan Son district, Bac Kan province, Vietnam, Vietnamese Journal of Food Control, National Institute for Food Control, Vol. 5, No. 3 ( 2022-08-31), p. 207-216
Abstract: Currently, plastic and microplastic pollution have become a common problem in many countries around the world, especially in developing countries, including Vietnam. Salt is the main ingredient in most of the spices used, but microplastic contamination has also been reported in seasalt samples in Vietnam. This paper presents the observation results of microplastic concentrations in some spice-salt samples that were purchased in the market in Hanoi, Viet Nam. The analysis results showed that the microplastic concentrations in the spice-salt samples varied in a wide range, from 320 to 1880 items/kg spice-salt. Microplastic fibers accounted for the majority (99%), whereas fragment forms accounted for a negligible proportion (1%). Microplastics were observed with a wide variety of colors, of which blue, red, and black were predominant. The results contribute to assessing the level of microplastic contamination in spice-salts in Hanoi city, Vietnam in order to give warnings and propose solutions to prevent and minimize microplastic contamination in spice-salt, for protecting the health of human consumers.

Abstract: Microplastics ( 〈 5mm) are one emerging pollutant in the environment. These are the threats and challenges facing the global environment, economy, and society, especially in hotspot regions such as Asia. This paper presents the microplastic characteristics found in the surface sediment of the main Red River estuary (the Ba Lat) during four separate monitoring runs in 2020. The microplastic amount in the sediment samples varied from 800 items per kg of dried weight (dw) to 3,817 items.kg-1 dw, averaging 2,188 ± 1,499 items.kg-1 dw. Fiber and fragment microplastics were discovered to be primary shapes, of which fibers dominated (94%). Microplastic fiber sizes were found mainly in the 〈 500 µm (69%) range. The most primarily observed colors of microplastics were blue (36%), white (21%), and red (11%). There were five recognized polymer types (polypropylene (PP), polyethylene (PE), polyurethane (PU), polyamide (PA), and polystyrene (PS)) in the sediment samples, with PE and PP predominating. Seasonal fluctuations in microplastic concentrations at the Ba Lat site, a significant aquaculture zone, may indicate the contribution of multiple sources. Our research demonstrated the necessity of microplastic observation in organisms, particularly in the aquaculture zones in Vietnam. Our findings further underline the importance of managing and minimizing the amount of plastic garbage that enters the ecosystem.

Abstract: Aquaculture in the coastal zone has contributed significantly to economic development in Giao Thuy district, Nam Dinh province. Therefore, water quality for aquaculture plays a vital role in sustainable aquaculture production. In this paper, iron (Fe) and manganese (Mn) concentrations in aquaculture coastal water of Giao Thuy district were analyzed during the rainy season (September 2017, August 2018) and dry season at low tide. The results showed that Fe concentration varied from 0.09 mg/L (at VT5) to 2.42 mg/L (at VT4), averaging 1.12 ± 0.71 mg/L, which exceeded the critical value of the national technical regulation on marine water quality in Vietnam for coastal aquaculture water (QCVN 10:2015/BTNMT) from 1.5 times (at VT4) to 3.0 times (at VT1). Mn concentrations ranged from 0.02 mg/L (at VT9) to 0.10 mg/L (at VT1), averaging 0.05 ± 0.02 mg/L, which was lower than the critical value in the QCVN 10:2015/BTNMT. The results showed that no apparent seasonal variation was observed for both Fe and Mn concentrations. In the dry season, the Fe and Mn concentrations averaged 1.10 mg/L and 0.05 mg/L respectively, whereas they were 1.15 mg/L and 0.05 mg/L in the rainy season. The monitoring results showed that Fe was polluted in the study area and may affect aquaculture productivity. Therefore, helpful measures should be taken to minimize Fe pollution to protect water quality and develop sustainable aquaculture in Giao Thuy district, Nam Dinh province.

Abstract: Dissolved Inorganic Carbon (DIC) is one of the main chemical components in water and very sensitive with environmental changes. DIC content in river water closely relates with natural weathering process and human activities in the whole basin. Therefore, DIC concentration reflects the impact of natural conditions and human activities in the basin to river water quality. This paper presents the survey results of the DIC concentrations at 4 sites in the Red River system during the period from January 2008 to December 2015 and simultaneously considers the relationship between some environmental variables and the DIC concentrations in the river water. The survey results showed that the DIC concentrations in the Red River water varied from 9.1 to 29.9 mgC.L-1, averaging 19.6 mgC.L-1 during the study period. The DIC concentrations are positively correlated with pH values and some major ions concentrations in river water, such as K+, Na+, Ca2+, SO42- but negatively correlated with water temperature. These relationships also indicate that the DIC concentrations in the Red River water are influenced by natural conditions, rather than by human activities in the river basin.

Abstract: Ba Vi National Park, one of 28 Vietnamese National Parks, is currently preserved and exploited for a variety of purposes, including the preservation of intact natural forest ecosystems and genetic resources of rare plants and animals. This paper presents the monitoring results of microbial contamination in surface water environment of the Ba Vi National Park (Ha Noi) in the period 2013-2014 and 2018. The results showed that total coliform (TC) density varied from 23 to 11,000 MPN/100ml in bimonthly observation in 2013-2014 which was lower than that one of sampling campaign in 2018, from 900 MPN/100ml to 8,100 MPN/ml. Fecal coliform (FC) densities varied from 0 to 110 MPN/100ml in 2013-2014, lower than in 2018, when it varied from 0 MPN/100ml to 600 MPN/100ml. At several observation times, both TC and FC were higher than the allowable values of the Vietnam national technical regulation QCVN 08-MT: 2015/BTNMT column A1 for surface water quality. The exceeded values of TC and FC than the allowable values and the increase trend from the 2013 to 2018 periods indicated the potential risks to the public health in this region when people use water for domestic and agricultural purposes. Our results provide dataset for environmental management in the Ba Vi National Park in order to protect the eco-environment in parallel with social-economic development.

Abstract: The study aims to analyze the impact of brand love on brand loyalty of Phu Quoc fish sauce – a famous traditional brand of Vietnam that has been accepted by the European Union for the protection of geographical indications. Brand love is proxied by two exogenous variables of hedonic products and self-expressive brands. Brand love, including a passion for the brand, attachment to the brand, positive evaluation of the brand, positive emotions in response to the brand, and declarations of love for the brand is the basis to create customer loyalty for the brand. Research data were collected from a survey on 418 customers using Phu Quoc fish sauce in Ho Chi Minh City and tested using Cronbach's alpha coefficient, Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA), Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) whereas hypotheses were tested through Structural Equation Model (SEM). The results showed that brand love has a direct impact on brand loyalty. Both hedonic products and self-expressive brands exert a positive influence on brand love. The effect of the hedonic products on brand loyalty is accepted, while the self-expressive brand on brand loyalty is rejected.

Abstract: Various composite materials of MnO 2 / C have been synthesized by electrochemical deposition and then used for the synthesis of lithium manganese oxide ( LiMn 2 O 4 ) spinel as a cathode material for lithium ion batteries. The structure and electrochemical properties of electrode materials based on MnO 2 / C , spinel LiMn 2 O 4 and doped spinel LiNi 0.5 Mn 1.5 O 4 have been studied. The influence of synthesis conditions on the structural and electrochemical properties of synthesized materials was investigated by x-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electronic microscopy (TEM) and charge–discharge experiments. Some of the studied materials exhibit good performance of cycling and discharge capacity.

Abstract: In this article, by combining/following previous publications, we summarize the history of nearly 100 years of development of the Vietnam seismological network and its achievements in earthquake monitoring and seismological research to contribute to prevention and mitigation of natural disasters and sustainable development of the country. Earthquake observation in Vietnam has gone through many stages of development, the first seismic station was established in Sapa by the French in 1924. In the years of  70-80s of the 20th Century, the earthquake monitoring network of Vietnam consisted of 7 stations, including five stations distributed in the Northern part (Phu Lien, Sa Pa, Bac Giang, Hoa Binh, Tuyen Quang) and two stations located in the south (Nha Trang and Da Lat). In the period from 1990 to 2005, the national seismological network with 24 digital seismographs and short-period sensors was created and distributed throughout the country. Today, earthquake monitoring in Vietnam has made great progress, the new seismological network with 30 broadband stations with advanced earthquake monitoring technology been established completely in 2017. The international cooperation on earthquake monitoring and seismological research is  always promoted and expanded, over the past 60 years, IGP has collaborated with many scientific organizations from different countries such as Russia, France, China, Japan, Poland, The United State of America,... and prestigious international organizations as UNDP, PTWC, CTBTO, IRIS, ADPC, RIMES,.. Through these cooperations, many research projects have been done and Vietnamese seismologists have been trained and educated at different levels that help to improve their knowledge earthquake monitoring and seismological research. Besides operating the national seismological network, some local seismic networks have also been established by Institute of Geophysics for many years to monitor and study induced seismicity in some reservoirs of hydropower dams such as Son La, Hoa Binh, Tri An, Yaly, Song Tranh, Lai Chau, Huoi Quang, Ban Chat,...
