    Chau Thoi and Nui Gio volcanic rocks: A remnant of the Loei Phetchabun volcanic belt in Viet Nam

    Abstract: Introduction: Extrusive volcanic rocks, such as dacite, andesite, basalto-andesite, basalt… of Chau Thoi and Nui Gio hills in Bien Hoa and Binh Phuoc provinces, southern Viet Nam, characterize volcanic island arc rocks. These rock suites formed as the convergent tectonic between the Indochina and Sibumasu geological blocks. Methods: Geochemical data of rock samples collected on the field were examined and analyzed by the Academia Sinica I E S (Institute of Earth Science, Taiwan and processed with a GCD kit (Geochemical Data Toolkit) to ascertain their characteristics and geotectonic setting. Result: Geochemical data both in major elements and trace elements of the Chau Thoi – Nui Gioshow a specific characteristic of a volcanic island arc environment. Discussion: Chau Thoi and Nui Gio rocks are suitable to correlate to the Permian Thailand Loei Phetchabun volcanic belt. However, at the current time, Chau Thoi and Nui Gio rocks have been classified as Deo Bao Loc formation - late Jurassic to early Cretaceous in ages - belong Truong Son magmatic belt. This magmatic belt resulted from the Yanshanian orogeny by the subduction of the Paleo-Pacific oceanic plate beneath the Eurasia (Indochina) continental plate. More studies needed to be performed, specially geochronological data to support the study. Conclusion: Chau Thoi and Nui Gio rock suites characterize volcanic island arc rocks, products of a convergence tectonic between Indochina and Sibumasu blocks. They are remnants of the Thailand Loei Phetchabun volcanic belt, the first time reported in Vietnam.

    Abstract: The suspension system plays a role in ensuring the stability of the vehicle when traveling on the road. On many modern vehicles, the active suspension system has been proposed to replace the conventional passive suspension system. The performance of the controller for the active suspension system depends on its control method. In this paper, a half dynamics model of the vehicle is established. Besides, the LQR control method is also used. The parameters of the control matrix are calculated through the triple in-loop optimization algorithm, which has been shown in the research. This is a completely novel algorithm. This algorithm helps to choose the most optimal parameters. Thus, it ensures the efficiency and stability of the controller. The calculation and comparison process are done automatically. When the loop ends, the optimal parameters are explicitly indicated. The simulation process is done in the MATLAB-Simulink environment. The results of the research showed that when the LQR controller, which was optimized through the triple in-loop algorithm used, the vehicle's oscillation was significantly reduced. In the three survey situations, the values of the roll angle and the angular acceleration of the sprung mass are guaranteed to be stable. Besides, when using this controller, the phenomenon of “chattering” after the excitation ends does not appear. This topic can be further developed in the future.

    Abstract: Objectives: To describe the clinical, paraclinical characteristics and the short-term results of laparoscopic distal gastrectomy with intracorporeal anastomosis for the treatment of stomach cancer. Subjects and methods: A descriptive and retrospective study on 109 patients undergoing laparoscopic distal gastrectomy with intracorporeal anastomosis at Vietnam National Cancer Hospital between January 2019 and July 2022. Results: Patients were mostly men, 〉 50 years old. Duration of symptom onset to hospital admission ≤ 3 months and epigastric abdominal pain were the most common symptoms. The average surgery duration was 202 minutes, 90.8% of the patients had Billroth I anastomosis (Delta shaped). Post-operative outcomes recorded very few complications, with a fast recovery time. Conclusion: Laparoscopic distal gastrectomy with intracorporeal anastomosis is a minimally invasive surgical method with a safe early result and fast post-operative recovery time.

    Abstract: As the growing interest on green corrosion inhibitors, plant extracts have gradually showed the potential in replacing the traditional hazardous chemicals due to the eco-friendly and economy characteristics. Previous study reported that rose myrtle leaf-extract (Rhodomyrtus tomentosa, Myrtaceae) was as an efficient corrosion inhibitor for rust removal process of mild steel in H2SO4 acid medium. This study presents the corrosion inhibition assessments of rose myrtle leaf-extract on mild steel surface in HCl 1M solution. The potentiodynamic polarization and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) methods have been used to study the corrosion behaviors of mild steel. The corrosion rate, corrosion current and corrosion potential results indicate that only small amount of the leaf-extract (2% vol.) was required for high inhibition efficiency (Hin=83.9%). By affecting on both anodic and cathodic branches of the Tafel plot, the corrosion inhibition mechanism is proposed by an adsorption forming different barriers on the steel surface.Green inhibitor, Rhodomyrtus tomentosa, steel corrosion, EIS

    Abstract: The Late Paleozoic – Early Mesozoic sedimentary formations in the South – eastern region have exhumed incomplete, and they have more complex geological characteristics, related to the closure process of the Paleo-Tethys ocean and the Indosinian orogeny occured from late Permian to late Trias. Sedimentary sequences in this period were classifed to Ta Not, Hon Quan, Song Sai Gon and Chau Thoi formations. The results from researches on petrography at areas of Chau Thoi formation such as Chau Thoi, Buu Long, Minh Duc, Loc Thanh have indicated that the pyroclasic rocks such as tuff, agglomerate, tuffaceous conglomerate, tufaceous sandstone conglomerate, sandstone, siltstone… are also present with the mainly lithological component of formation as conglomerate, sandstone, siltstone... Reseach on the lithological composition and geochemical content from the number of rock samples of the Chau Thoi formation show that the Chau Thoi formation is formed in rift setting as backarc basin type.

    Abstract: Introduction: Vietnam is mainly located within the Indochina block in Southeast Asia. Asmall northern part of Vietnam belongs to the South China block, the southwest part liesadjacent to the Sibumasu block and opens to the East Sea on the east side. Tectonicactivities in Vietnam were very complicated they relate to intense interactions betweenmany geological blocks at different times. Magmatic emplacement is the final and instantproduct of tectonic activities. Methods: Geochemical data analysis from rock samples withinVietnam collected by other researchers has been reused in the scope of this study to verifythe relation between tectonic evolutions and their granitic magmatism. GCD (GeochemicalData Toolkit), an R language program for handling and recalculation of geochemical data. Results: Geochronology and geotectonic model derived from rock analysis have beenascertained main tectonic evolutions of the Indochina. The current granitoidclassification in Vietnam mostly based on petrographical studies. The Nui Cam granitoid isbeing classified as Deo Ca, Dinh Quan granitoid. However, based on trace elements, they aredifferent. They may belong to different granitoid system. Conclusion: Major tectonic eventswithin the Indochina block are well supported by the nature of granitoid emplacements. Petrological studies of these magmatic rocks would bring out valuable information toconfirm and clearly understand the tectonic evolutions of the region. Igneous rocksclassification must based on tectonic fundamental instead of petrographical studies.

    Consumer and Healthcare Professional Led Priority Setting for Quality Use of Medicines in People with Dementia: Gathering Unanswered Research Questions

    Abstract: Background: Historically, research questions have been posed by the pharmaceutical industry or researchers, with little involvement of consumers and healthcare professionals. Objective: To determine what questions about medicine use are important to people living with dementia and their care team and whether they have been previously answered by research. Methods: The James Lind Alliance Priority Setting Partnership process was followed. A national Australian qualitative survey on medicine use in people living with dementia was conducted with consumers (people living with dementia and their carers including family, and friends) and healthcare professionals. Survey findings were supplemented with key informant interviews and relevant published documents (identified by the research team). Conventional content analysis was used to generate summary questions. Finally, evidence checking was conducted to determine if the summary questions were ‘unanswered’. Results: A total of 545 questions were submitted by 228 survey participants (151 consumers and 77 healthcare professionals). Eight interviews were conducted with key informants and four relevant published documents were identified and reviewed. Overall, analysis resulted in 68 research questions, grouped into 13 themes. Themes with the greatest number of questions were related to co-morbidities, adverse drug reactions, treatment of dementia, and polypharmacy. Evidence checking resulted in 67 unanswered questions. Conclusion: A wide variety of unanswered research questions were identified. Addressing unanswered research questions identified by consumers and healthcare professionals through this process will ensure that areas of priority are targeted in future research to achieve optimal health outcomes through quality use of medicines.
