Abstract: This study considers the spatiotemporal dynamics of a reaction-diffusion phytoplankton-zooplankton system with a double Allee effect on prey under a homogeneous boundary condition. The qualitative properties are analyzed, including the local stability of all equilibria and the global asymptotic property of the unique positive equilibrium. We also discuss the Hopf bifurcation and the steady state bifurcation of the system. These results are expected to help understand the complexity of the Allee effect and the interaction between phytoplankton and zooplankton.

Abstract: The governor actuators in some heat-engine plants have nonlinear valves. This nonlinearity of valves may lead to the inaccuracy of the opening and closing time constants calculated based on the whole segment fully open and fully close experimental test curves of the valve. An improved mathematical model of the turbine governor actuator is proposed to reflect the nonlinearity of the valve, in which the main and auxiliary piecewise opening and closing time constants instead of the fixed oil motive opening and closing time constants are adopted to describe the characteristics of the actuator. The main opening and closing time constants are obtained from the linear segments of the whole fully open and close curves. The parameters of proportional integral derivative (PID) controller are identified based on the small disturbance experimental tests of the valve. Then the auxiliary opening and closing time constants and the piecewise opening and closing valve points are determined by the fully open/close experimental tests. Several testing functions are selected to compare genetic algorithm and particle swarm optimization algorithm (GA-PSO) with other basic intelligence algorithms. The effectiveness of the piecewise linear model and its parameters are validated by practical power plant case studies.

Abstract: This paper studies the decentralized stabilization problem for an uncertain fuzzy large-scale system with time delays. The considered large-scale system is composed of several T-S fuzzy subsystems. The decentralized parallel distributed compensation (PDC) fuzzy control for each subsystem is designed to stabilize the whole system. Based on Lyapunov criterion, some sufficient conditions are proposed. Moreover, the positive definite matrices P i and PDC gain K i j can be solved by linear matrix inequality (LMI) toolbox of Matlab. Then, the optimization design method for decentralized control is also considered with respect to a quadratic performance index. Finally, numerical examples are given and compared with those of Zhang et al., 2004 to illustrate the effectiveness and less conservativeness of our method.

Abstract: We investigate the complex dynamics of an epidemic model with nonlinear incidence rate of saturated mass action which depends on the ratio of the number of infectious individuals to that of susceptible individuals. We first deal with the boundedness, dissipation, persistence, and the stability of the disease-free and endemic points of the deterministic model. And then we prove the existence and uniqueness of the global positive solutions, stochastic boundedness, and permanence for the stochastic epidemic model. Furthermore, we perform some numerical examples to validate the analytical findings. Needless to say, both deterministic and stochastic epidemic models have their important roles.

Abstract: Flocking behavior is a common phenomenon in nature, such as flocks of birds and groups of fish. In order to make the agents effectively avoid obstacles and fast form flocking towards the direction of destination point, this paper proposes a fast multiagent obstacle avoidance (FMOA) algorithm. FMOA is illustrated based on the status of whether the flocking has formed. If flocking has not formed, agents should avoid the obstacles toward the direction of target. If otherwise, these agents have reached the state of lattice and then these agents only need to avoid the obstacles and ignore the direction of target. The experimental results show that the proposed FMOA algorithm has better performance in terms of flocking path length. Furthermore, the proposed FMOA algorithm is applied to the formation flying of quad-rotor helicopters. Compared with other technologies to perform the localization of quad-rotor helicopter, this paper innovatively constructs a smart environment by deploying some wireless sensor network (WSN) nodes using the proposed localization algorithm. Finally, the proposed FMOA algorithm is used to conduct the formation flying of these quad-rotor helicopters in the smart environment.

Abstract: This paper proposes a new optimal waveform selection algorithm for intelligent target tracking. In radar systems, optimal waveform is inspired by the improvements in performance. When the target is intelligent and tries to escape from detection, it will maximize the estimation error to degrade the target tracking performance. So the conventional tracking algorithms are not suitable for this situation. In this paper, we assume a one-dimension target model which will try to escape the radar detection to degrade the tracking performance. A new optimal waveform selection algorithm is proposed based on game theory for robust tracking. The robust received filter is first reviewed according to zero-sum game with the derivation of estimated state error covariance. The parameters for transmitted waveform that need to be optimized are found to be related to the robust filter. The optimal parameters for transmitted waveform are finally found by the minimization of the trace of the estimated state error covariance. Simulation results show the effectiveness of this new proposed algorithm for optimal waveform selection for intelligent target tracking.

Abstract: In this paper, we consider a priori error estimates for the finite volume element schemes of optimal control problems, which are governed by linear elliptic partial differential equation. The variational discretization approach is used to deal with the control. The error estimation shows that the combination of variational discretization and finite volume element formulation allows optimal convergence. Numerical results are provided to support our theoretical analysis.

Abstract: A predator-prey model with modified Holling-Tanner functional response and time delays is considered. By regarding the delays as bifurcation parameters, the local and global asymptotic stability of the positive equilibrium are investigated. The system has been found to undergo a Hopf bifurcation at the positive equilibrium when the delays cross through a sequence of critical values. In addition, the direction of the Hopf bifurcation and the stability of bifurcated periodic solutions are also studied, and an explicit algorithm is obtained by applying normal form theory and the center manifold theorem. The main results are illustrated by numerical simulations.

Abstract: An autonomy system with time-delayed feedback is studied by using the theory of functional differential equation and Hassard’s method; the conditions on which zero equilibrium exists and Hopf bifurcation occurs are given, the qualities of the Hopf bifurcation are also studied. Finally, several numerical simulations are given; which indicate that when the delay passes through certain critical values, chaotic oscillation is converted into a stable state or a stable periodic orbit.

Abstract: A chemostat model of plasmid-bearing and plasmid-free competition with pulsed input is proposed. The invasion threshold of the plasmid-bearing and plasmid-free organisms is obtained according to the stability of the boundary periodic solution. By use of standard techniques of bifurcation theory, the periodic oscillations in substrate, plasmid-bearing, and plasmid-free organisms are shown when some conditions are satisfied. Our results can be applied to control bioreactor aimed at producing commercial producers through genetically altered organisms.
